But we're just replacing one monopoly distribution system (Diamond) for another and we've seen how healthy that has been for comics expanding its audience ie not at all. Sigh.
And Itunes is awful anyway. Use it as little as possible.

I think that one of the biggest problems is we do not have a unified format for digital comics across the various platforms to access them.
The publishers are loathe to use CBR or PDF due to concerns of piracy, and the digital content delivery methods of most tablets/e-readers tend to have proprietary file formats.
2000ad lets you buy PDF's from their store, but their app is something different.
It would be handy if the smaller publishers all just decided to go with something like a CBR and forced the rest to move kicking and screaming.

Sigh. -Ralph I'd agree that a monopoly on distribution doesn't really have many benefits to the customer. What I was getting at was that having an iTunes like stranglehold on the audience has to be attractive to Comixology, and they are in a position to pull it off. Does it benefit the end consumer? I'm not sure that it does, but it certainly benefits the company. Karl

I know, but I'm increasingly annoyed by the digital model for comics making all the same mistakes as the print model in the last decade. One big distributer, not well advertised out of the comics ghetto, strange delivery methods, overpriced, no schedules for when comics come out, etc.

panelsyndicate.com/Brian K Vaughan and Marcos Martin have a digital comic up. Pay what you like, download it DRM free as a PDF, CBR or CBZ. Worth a punt. Andy

Although I haven't got them myself (I go for the PDF option), Twitter informs me the Kindle Dredd collections have massive borders and a messed up view when you zoom in.

Complained to both amazon and 2000ad.
3cm borders top and bottom.2cm either side. Artwork 10.5 x 13.5.
if you sized up to fill screen maintaining proportion you should get aprox 14.5 x 18.5 nearly twice as much art size
Problem is there's bordering on the scan and bordering round the scan. Compare how an art page and a text page occupies the screen.

Easy for me to avoid then. No point in the stuff being cheap if it's unreadable.

True. Regretting the purchase TBH.
Dunno whether to risk a Rebellion CBZ version

Huge borders on digital editions are always a no-sale for me. Another example are the digital editions of the TF UK Classics volumes. I squinted at previews and couldn't read the pages without pain so did not buy!

Not exactly the hugest selection ever, but Dark Horse are having a "Not at SDCC Sale" offering issues for 99 cents.

Can't remember the last time I switched on Comixology. I seem to have gone off digital comics. No idea why. Not a conscious decision!

Deleted the comixology app. I never used it anymore. Paper comics are the way for me for now. I'll get back into digital comics when the market moves to a format where I own my downloads rather than rent them in an app and/or I have a display system where the resolution is the same as a physical copy.

I think most people will have got it already, but drivethrucomics have the Judge Dredd Complete Case Files 1 for $1.99 (watermarked PDF). In other news, if anyone buys a lot of Dark Horse I recommend buying via the website as they tend to have a lot of website only bundles that are not on the app.

There's iOS and Android apps. The deals don't tend to be available in-app but you can purchase through the website then download on the app for phone/tablet reading.

The Dave Gibbons/Will Simpson Rogue Trooper reboot The War Machine is available on the 2000ad app.
I had to purchase it.

Scribd is pretty decent, app could do with a few tweaks, but it's a fairly cheap way to keep up to date with lots of comics. read 4 current Marvel comics and you've gotten your month's worth!

Clickwheel is closing in a move that should surprise nobody. However any clickwheel purchases will be migrated to the 2000ad webstore if you migrate your account Notice: Clickwheel is closing and being replaced with a new 2000 AD service.
The Clickwheel digital comics service will soon cease to operate. However all your existing entitlements to 2000 AD and the Judge Dredd Megazine will be carried over to the new 2000 AD digital web shop. To access your content you will need to sign up for a Rebellion ID, see below.
Web-based digital subscriptions and purchases of individual Progs and Megs, with issues downloadable in the same high-quality (DRM-free) PDF and CBZ formats, will continue to be available. The Clickwheel digital comics service and website will be withdrawn on 31st July 2015.
Account Migration Instructions
- We will be able to migrate your existing digital entitlements over to the new service, but in order for us to be able to do so, you will need to create a Rebellion ID by Sunday 19th July 2015 here: account.rebellion.co.uk/
- If possible, please create your Rebellion ID with the same email address as you have used for your Clickwheel account (i.e. the one this email has been sent to), the password can (and probably should) be different.
- If you wish to register for a Rebellion ID using a different email address, that’s fine, but in this case, you will need to send an email to clickwheel.support@rebellion.co.uk after creating your Rebellion ID, advising us of both your existing Clickwheel email address and the new email address that you’ve used for your Rebellion ID.
- If you already have an existing Rebellion ID (e.g. if you’ve logged into the 2000 AD web store or one of our mobile apps recently), you can use that, but again, if that uses a different email address from your Clickwheel one, please email us, so that we can match your accounts.
Benefits of the new 2000 AD digital web shop
- Cross-platform availability of purchased content, at no extra charge i.e. Progs, Megs and other digital content purchased through the new service (as part of a subscription, or otherwise), as well as being downloadable via the Web, will also automatically be available to view through our iOS and Android apps, using the same login
- Digital subscriptions to the Judge Dredd Megazine will also be available, not just subscriptions to 2000 AD
- A more modern and easier to navigate interface, with a design more similar to our 2000 AD iOS and Android apps
We will be in touch with more information about your account migration soon.
If you have any questions about migrating your account or any other queries about the transition, please contact: clickwheel.support@rebellion.co.uk
Splundig vur Thrigg! Tharg The Mighty, and the 2000 AD team. If you've bought from the 2000ad wesbtore you should automatically have a rebellion id in that email address, click the link above to check.
