That's evil. And if I was rich, that's exactly what I'd do.
Well. I'd buy two of them. So I'd always have an unspoiled one for me.
Yes. Even of ultra-rare stuff. I'd be that rich. (I can dream, can't I..?)

$15k for an AFA graded US Piranacon giftset according to a thread on tfw2005. G2 Stunticons are at $8k now, I can see it hitting $15k, if not more. Really? do AFA grades seriously add that much? there's one on ebay now with a dented box corner going for $1000. Wow. That doesn't strike me as being anything really special. I'd have expected it to be something Japanese, like Black Zarak, but it does seem that the most expensive figures come from the Masterforce/Victory era. Interesting. To the people that collect that stuff, yes. I'm still amazed at the amount of stuff that shows up in the condition it does, some wonderful pieces in the AFA thread on tfw2005. It's not something I want to collect, but it's interesting to see near perfect specimens of these ~30 year old toys. I wouldn't trust an AFA graded Black Zarak. That box has no windows, you could have just bought a box full of dust due to all the GPS! And the rest. Any boxed item could have been opened and replaced with rocks that weigh the same. If the person is never going to open it, they'd never know. But yeah, why pay the big bucks for Black Zarak when it's most likely broken.

Yes, but you'd expect AFA to be able to certify the box hadn't been opened and tampered with. A Black Zarak tampers with itself though!

I dunno, double taping is not a strange occurrence on Japanese TFs, so it's possible to cheat the system... Not that anyone should, and like you say, BZ does enough damage to itself by just existing.

Got a friend who's just bought a BZ at botcon believing it's just the hinge on the armour and the feet that might be a problem!

BZ must be the stupidest purchase I ever made, paying a decent sum for a junker that had to be shipped from japan could have left me with a pile of black plastic parts covered in gold dust. Instead 6 years on BZ seems as unfazed as the rest of my GPS collection. (TM2 Megatrons and exploding Overlords aside) Only gps issue it had on arrival is this Thankfully its out of sight, but does provide a pretty stark warning of what will/may come. I don't think I'd ever pay for a good condition one without being able to pick it up and inspect it in person though, too big a risk. Seeing those Stunticons bagged up like that is amazing. If I had the cash to buy them I'd open them, theres so few of them the price difference between as they are and out and played with wouldn't be that huge. Besides if I did ever own them Hasbro would immediately announce a reissue set destroying the value.

I'm looking at what's missing there Andy and thinking how many of those parts could have succumbed to GPS!

I have the shield which is intact, but yeah its quite possible the rest disintegrated at some point.
But if the worst does happen I'll just get a junker Scorponok and swap out the parts and paint gold.

I do recall someone posting a pic on here a year or so ago of lots of KO Scopronoks. I am still surprised they have yet to be a release of KO Black Zaraks with the modern materials used for the gold parts, or even a third party company that has made replacements for these parts.

Yeah it's a bit of a surprise. Maybe the Scorponok KO didn't do that well?
At least we have the KO Black Zarak head!

I did look around for that at the time, Scorponok is one figure from my past I'd love to replace. The KO though seems to be almost as much as a near complete G1 original ($150). A proper encore would be brilliant for this, then someone could do a Black Zarak as an exclusive and differentiate it from the original by replacing the gold plastic parts with a modern equivalent.
Tis an awesome figure. I've never actually seen a BZ, but the photos always make him look stunning.

They really look like minicon pegs on BZ red leg ramps.

You'll be surprised how many old toy have actual Minicon pegs. 86 Ultra Magnus does.

I'm sure someone might be thinking about writing a Black Zarak V Armada Megatron & Energon Scorponok fight. Leader1 woudl look good on G1 Scorponok.

It's one of those costumes where the torso is a picture of what the kid wanted to look like. Taunting him. That's just mean.

It's still the price of a roadworthy used car for a set of Rescue Force repaints with a couple of extra jets and some animal targetmaster dealies. Oh- and a big turquoise hat.
