I was rather underwhelmed by Grimlock, to be honest. The proportions seem off in both modes and the robot head CLEARLY visible right on the front of dinosaur mode bugs me no end. The gimmicks are pretty good, though. I've picked up all the wave 2 and 3 deluxes apart from Oil Slick in the last couple of weeks. Not a stinker in the bunch. Each one is beautifully designed and packed with character. Whoever designed Snarl should just do all the TFs from now on -Nick

I've yet to have a shot of an Animated Deluxe that hasn't impressed me. It's a great line for that size class. My mileage varies on the larger toys (as tends to be the case for larger TF toys) but generally the range is a noticeable improvement on the last few main lines. Only Grimlock has made me exclaim: "This is shite!"

Animated Leader Bulkhead, Megatron, deluxes Soundwave, Jazz, Snarl and Cybertron Leader Prime for birthday. TRU 3 for 2's rule.
Bulkhead is awesome though Im not sure about the design aesthetic, its a bit to tech. Its got sharp edges all over the vehicle mode parts while the robot parts are smooth and curvy as its meant to be. The arms are the worst example of it, the big round forearms of the animated cartoon then giant large tech detailed panels with rockets attached. I prefer the the voyagers compromise using tear drop shaped arms that actually form the van sides. That aside its awesome. Oh plus I expected Bulkheads head to come off for the headmaster to attach, bit disappointed it didnt.
If I ever get my hands on a second one Im repainting it as Impactor. Oh yeah!
I put my whole line up together this morning and it looks awesome just need to find Grimlock, Oilslick and Ratchet and Swoop.

Personally, I don't like Swoop and Slagnarl's robot modes that much. Well - swoop is bearable, albeit the G1 Swoop wasn't anorexic and yet still retained a sleek dino mode (because of the loooong wings!)... but I do love Grimlock for being so purely G1.
As for the Grimlock head - it doesn't show - if you pose the dino correctly, the head is underneath - it's like Bumblebee... Bumblebee's big head is also "visible" in car mode - if you turn the car upside down.

I drove up to Cardiff's Toys R Us yesterday to partake of the 3 for 2. (As mentioned over in the sightings thread, I wanted to because my own stock shows no sign of arriving.)
Finding an Animated end cap, I was impressed with their display, with pretty much the full range available (by class if not by character). Except for Deluxe! There were four or fives Primes on the shelf but no others.
Moving off to the main Transformers display, I was again impressed as it was the best Movie display I've seen since last summer, as well as some other odds and ends. But no Animated!
After a while I managed to find a member of staff who went to scout the stockroom for me. Luckily he came back with a full case. I am now the happy owner of Cybertron Mode Optimus, Oil Slick, Soundwave, Snarl and Jazz. Of these, Jazz is my favourite Autobot and Oil Slick my favourite Decepticon, with Oil Slick my favourite overall. As I already had the DVD Optimus, I was expecting much the same from the new one, but was pleasantly surprised to find I preferred the Cybertron Mode version. I was a little disappointed to find that Ssnlaargl's club can't fit into his mouth as firebreath, which looks like it was originally intended, but otherwise a nice toy. Overall, I'm very impressed with all of them.
I'm so pleased to have these. It's so much more satisfying to go into a shop and buy toys than have them delivered, whether from an online retailer or from a wholesaler.
I have my purple Galvatron on display at the moment (an AA purchase). I was looking at him alongside the Animated toys last night, thinking how far the toys have come, but then realised that there are actually a lot of design similarities between him and Oil Slick. The more things change, etc.
You might have noticed that I named five Transformers above. A shame there weren't six different available for the 3 for 2, but it does mean I have an extra Soundwave. I was going to offer him here for the £6.66 plus p+p, but by the time that's added on (plus a bit for Paypal costs if relevant), it's not going to be any real saving over the normal shop price. However, if anyone wants to claim him before I put him on eBay this afternoon, they are welcome to him.

Oil Slick was the one of the five that I couldn't get another of. Soundwave actually sold within an hour and a half of me putting him on eBay, maybe less.

I can get Oil Slicks at TRU any time I fancy one. I just wanted to get one in a special offer. Unfortunately all the Scots crew put in their orders in multiples of 3 so I couldn't get one as part of it -Nick

Are you finding it hard, Ralph?
My FAB Barricade arrived this morning, courtesy of hasbrotoyshop. I wanted to buy something from there to enter the draw they were promoting at Auto Assembly. The parcel included a flyer telling me I'd been entered into the draw, so that's a nice little surprise to add to my ephemera collection.
I chose Barricade because it was the only thing available at a reduced price that I didn't already have (and that I couldn't get wholesale). Of course, I then had to spend over £25 total to get free shipping! There is logic there somewhere, honest. I bought some McQuarrie Concept Star Wars that were also reduced, getting a surprise free Legacy poster into the bargain.

The Agent of TRU picked up Animated Snarl, Soundwave and Ratchet for me in the 3 for 2. I'm not opening them until I've paid for them. He knows where I live.

Received Classics Onslaught yesterday, aka GRIMLOCK!!!!!! That's right folkes, he's now officially Grimlock in the world and mind of Shockprowl. Loose the Decep' insignia (gunna replace it with an auto one eventually), and he looks mint. Think I'm gunna try and turn his eyes red, instead of the current orange. And he needs a sword from somewhere. So, together with Cyb Defense Scattershot as Slag, Energon Slugslinger as Swoop (still needs some Autoboting up though), and Cyb Def Red Alert as Sludge my vehicle form Dynobots are (almost) complete! Huzzzah!!!!
