On a different note, I've found the alt mode that Rung was created to make - a giant popsicle

Hmmm.. That Minicon cover on MTMTE #24 is a bit tenuous.

Interested by the idea of Megatron taking command of the Lost Light as an Autobot.
Disappointed at the presence of what looks like yet another fembot (this Nautica Phil mentions?).

Having bowed out of buying this title for the duration of Dark Cybertron I am looking forward to starting to pick it up again come next month. Actually, I am looking forward to a new status quo and that feeling of "I think someone hit me on the head, the whos in what now? "

I brought the five trades that constitute volume one of MTMTE to read on my journey back to Brum. Needless to say I only got about halfway through. I'm now up to the harrowing issue 16, where everyone is gathered for the funerals of the five crewmembers who were killed when Overlord broke out and tore shit up. His indestructible body has almost certainly been picked up by the DJD by now, and I honestly don't know who to feel more sorry for. Anyway, Skids was annoyed that Brainstorm had brought is briefcase to the funeral. Looking at Brainstorm in that panel, he's holding the case very tight and looking very grim indeed. Then it occurred to me to look back at the Big Fight in the previous issue. Brainstorm wasn't there. He was nowhere to be seen- either because he didn't want to risk his own life with so many unmentionable projects on the go (not inconceivable) or he was transfixed by the reader's face as he stared out of the panel thanks to the meta-bomb that Swerve let off. Either way, he wasn't there. He did know Overlord was aboard, though. He wasn't happy about it, and he REALLY wasn't happy about Chromedome's mind probing business. Chromedome eventually discovered the source of Overlord's invulnerability- a very rare material from waaaay down at the bottom of the periodic table- ununtrium, a highly radioactive element that we can only make by bombarding americium atoms with calcium. The most stable isotope we have lasts a whopping 20 seconds before decaying, but apparently Primus knows something we don't and there's a tiny amount of stable ununtrium on Cybertron. Rossum thought they had used up the last of it on Overlord, but then, they thought they'd used the last of it on Sixshot, too... I reckon Brainstorm didn't like Chromedome digging around in Overlord's egg salad because he believed he'd already determined the difference between a Phase Sixer and everybot else, and I reckon he was right. I suspect that Swerve will be disappointed to find a cannister of really heavy silver metal fluid inside Brainstorm's briefcase. I think the case has enough ununtrium in it to coat a single Transformer. I think that's why he looked so guilty and held it so close at the funeral- maybe he thought that with his self-declared brilliance he could have made an ununtrium blade or bullet that could have really damaged Overlord and put him down before anyone died at his hands. Maybe he was working on that during the fight, but Max and Chromedome dealt with the problem first (with help from poor Rewind). Now that Brainstorm has that Point One Percenter spark that he found on Luna 1, I suspect that's what he'll be up to on the Lost Light during volume 2- building the Autobots' first Phase Sixer with the green spark and the ununtrium. With Megatron on board I reckon he'll be working on it day and night. I could be wrong, but most of the big shocks in MTMTE have been clearly telegraphed when you look back at seemingly innocuous things in previous issues. Of course, I could be reading too much into one panel or making too big a leap to say that Brainstorm correctly identified the ununtrium treatment on his own. Still, it's possible. What do you think, folks? -Nick EDIT: Up to issue 17 now. Brainstorm's trying to extract the Point One Percent spark on Luna 1. Rodimus asks him if he's planning to put it in his briefcase. Brainstorm says the idea blows his mind. It's ununtrium. ****ing calling it. He doesn't *have* to be aware of Rossum's infusion process. He could have come up with the idea himself right there on the Seething Moon.

I've generally been content with MTMTE to let the mysteries play out and sit back and enjoy, but I like your thinking here!
One of the things I love about this book is how you can enjoy it on so many levels and how it awards paying attention to detail.
How do you consider this plays into the sparkeater scene where when he holds the briefcase up in front of him the monster gets confused / disinterested (/ scared? It's been a while since I read it)? Does ununtrium shield sparks?

That one's been answered now, but I don't want to risk spoiling it here.
Good thinking, Nick! I look forward to seeing if you're right!

I thought I replied to this last night. Hmm. We don't actually see the sparkeater's response to Brainstorm's briefcase- all we know is that it leaves to pursue Rung. The case might have shielded Brainstorm's spark from the sparkeater's attention, but I feel like its reaction was a red herring. Regardless of the briefcase's contents, I wonder how Captain Megatron will react when he finds out that Brainstorm is building his own pet supersoldier. If he has the means to make him (her?) invulnerable, the Lost Light might even have the bot-power to survive their inevitable encounter with the DJD EDIT: What's been answered? The sparkeater business? -Nick

You're probably right about it being a red herring, it hadn't dawned on me that some of the stuff revealed in Dark Cybertron recently might account for that sparkeater's behaviour. Or was it said explicitly? I must admit I've been reading DC on my commute and haven't been so engaged that I've ever gone back and reread anything. Glad it's over, frankly.

EDIT: What's been answered? The sparkeater business? -Nick Not explicitly, no. But a certain event revealed in DC does give a reason for the Sparkeaters behaviour, and out of continuity James has pretty much confirmed it.

For the first time in my life I've made the decision not to purchase this or any of the current comics available now. Whether it's because I enjoyed Regeneration One and the nostalgia from the stories but there is just something I haven't liked about the main two comics for a while now. Probably a combination of things really, but its now moved in a direction that I can no longer relate to and no longer find interesting, which I never thought would ever happen. Not after purchasing pretty much every single Transformers comic from Transformers UK 1.
I just don't like the amount of dialogue between characters, I often find it boring, or that it can be many issues until anyone actually transforms, the storyline etc. The new idea of Windblade doesn't thrill we with enthusiasm either.
I'll be looking in on here though for updates from you guys as to what is going on and hopefully I'll discover a new Transformers comic to get my interest back again. I'll still have a look out for the trades too.

With stinkblade being the new sunstorm/drift [ie this character is the best & cool & we are going to force them down your throat until you agree]. But we had some fun scenes in MTMTE #22 re transforming - why sit here when we can transform & sit infront of our drinks.
Also this leans back to the G1 cartoon - how many times did you see everyone walking on Cybertron - surely you transform then drive & transform like how you do when playing the games.

The robots beating up Drift in the flashback story are Sonic & Boom, the same two that were at Delphi and were involved releasing the plague!

Really enjoying reading the IDW writers interview. Sad to see that Cosmos is leaving the Lost Light and joining Optimus' crew in RiD, after getting no lines and having his ass kicked by Overlord in MTMTE season 1! "Roberts promises a greater degree of planning this time, making season 2 a longer, more interconnected storyline."
So... how little planning (by James Roberts standards) went into season 1? -Nick

Now that Regen One has finished I can catch up on IDW verse stuff. I have managed to completely avoid spoilers while I have been away. I am now at the bit where Chromdome is talking to a comatose Overlord in a chair and I have not a clue what will happen next but I guess it will be something horrible!
