All hail the Blessed one!
I was reminded of his majesty when watching a Blake's 7 episode on Friday night. I had forgotten he was in it! What a fabulous surprise. He ruled the screen as a mad cult leader. "I LEFT THEM AS THEIR PRIEST, I SHALL RETURN AS THEIR GODDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD!" he screamed before being teleported into space where he exploded. And he was walking about in space-pyjamas! But it did not matter! For he is the Blessed!

I may be half remembering this, but I read a lovely story once about how Blessed was a massive Star Wars fan, and how he was friends with Sebastian Shaw (who played Darth Vader/Anakin at the end of Return of the Jedi, of course), but Shaw had no idea what the part was, cue massive jealousy/light hearted consternation from Blessed.

I totally remember him in B7!
He is without doubt one of the coolest human beings ever. Up there with Capt. Kirk, Bruce Lee and Duncan MacCleod of the Clan MacCleod.

I caught the show at the tail end of Blessed keeping his hands in a tank of ice water and swearing to ease the discomfort. Quite a random thing to channel flick onto. Had no idea it was his birthday until I saw the Hub messages. I watched The Sweeny with BBs appearance in the day before/ Legend.

Martin I didn't really feel it glorified swearing (though certainly Fry and Blessed did not hide there enjoyment of it) but mostly it was a quite fascinating look at the reasons for it(cultural, and childhood developement), how it changes, how it affects tourettes suffers and quite a lot of other ground. |

I saw the storytelling one on the Iplayer. Thought it was quite good - a little light on actually tackling the nature of story-telling, what humanity uses it for and why it is important (but that is a series in itself) but I thought it wasn't a bad hour at all. Makes me regret having missed most of the rest.
Did make me realise that I still haven't read either the Odyssey or the Illiad. I must think about doing something about that.
(Having checked my local library's catalogue I am obliquely amused that their only copy of the Illiad appears to be catalogued under Non-Fiction.....)

He was indeed - he has far more range than he generally lets on. In fairness, in the latter days of his acting career he was being cast in very specific roles which required a particular persona...and like any good actor he knows how to deliver that persona. He does seem to have made that persona part of his public face as years have gone on (The "Flash Gordon" commentary he does is a good example of this - he is definitely in "Brian Blessed: Public Appearance" mode for quite a lot of it).
If you want to see much more of the kind of range that Blessed has then I third "I Clavdivs". He gets to show a lot of different sides in his role there and does it with aplomb.
