Needs forward planning during the summer, pre-booked ferry tickets. I went down for a jaunt over last summer on a whim and couldn't get on the boat because of overseas schools tours.

Very not. I'm Mr plan in advance usually, but this was Mrs P wanting to go in search of steam engines. Anything like that I'll have planned, booked and printed all documentation!
Also, read Phil's posts properly young Blueshift! He isn't tricking Ralph, he said the ferry terminal is at the back of the station, which is true. It's literally five meters from the end of the platforms.

The platform at the top of the picture has a service that runs Portsmouth -> Cardiff hourly, via Bristol, Bath, Salisbury and Southampton. Top ride, highly recommended, shame the trains on it are so rubbish!

Tomorrow morning I shall be playing the "dodge a drunk toff" game on my way home to Swindon.
I'm hoping for a win by travelling so ridiculously early - c9.30 at Richmond - that only the most hardcore race goer & drinker will cause me any difficulty.
I probably should pack the peanuts .....

You'll have seen on the news about the disruption into and out of Paddington this week. I read this morning that it's being blamed on the pantograph on the Test Train, a class 802 (9 car version of the 800), and reports elsewhere, unconfirmed, indicate the pantograph raised while the train was moving at speed! |
