Booze and drunk people on trains should be banned. Especially if they are football 'fans'.

IIRC booze is banned on Scottish trains. Or is it just the Glasgow-Edinburger route? I forget.

Rail service has become completely unreliable. I booked a hotel in Manchester for the minicon. It should be an easy 20-minute journey on the train from where I am but the service in NW England is pretty bad. When I need to be on site early doors it is literally easier to pay three figures to temporarily relocate than get the train!!!
I see today the local trains are off for a month soon! I made the right call.

I had to travel to Leeds on Saturday, and the only way to do it reliably was via National Express. Using trains to come home I had to change in Sheffield. The train from Leeds was delayed by half an hour, and consisted of only two coaches. On a day when Sheffield United had a home FA Cup tie. Crowded is an understatement. Sheffield to Derby was just as small, so I've spent an hour sitting in the door to the train, hoping that all the stations were on the other side...
It's garbage. I'm all for the strikes, and people getting paid what they should, but the actual service is trash.

Up north the trains are being cancelled. I've got a ticket to get unlimited travel on Northern trains for £10 but they have reduced service because transpen take up the time table but they dont run the trains. They are supposed to be having all the contracts taken off them soon. National express & megabus have all but cancelled all the services they used to run

Many trips have been cancelled in the last 18 months as the service so often is cancelled. Hence why Mrs Ralph needs to drive us.

I need to travel to London for Mum's funeral.
Trains to London leave Swindon from Platforms 1 or 3.
The lifts up to platforms 1-3 are out of order.
This could be interesting....

Having spoken to GWR on Twitter I believe the plan is to put me on a Westbound train from p4, whose lifts ARE working, take me off first stop (Chippenham/Bristol Parkway) and put me on next service back!

What?!
Surely not.

Surely the solution is to...fix the lifts?

You'd think that, I assume that an engineer/parts won't be available this side of the weekend.
I'm suspecting it's a parts thing as they've been out all week

How else can we do it? P1-3 is an Island Platform with no level access. All Eastbound trains leave from there. 10 mins to Chippenham, 10 mins back is quicker & cheaper than putting me and chair in a taxi to Didcot or Reading!

Odd you should mention that aspect....
The "easiest" way to do this - shortest distance travelled from Swindon and least time taken - would be Chippenham and back which would leave me 6 mins to do a cross platform interchange in the chair IF the trains were on time. If not it's c an hour on Chippenham.

GWR Passenger assist think it's doable
09:11 Swi -> Chippenham 09:21 09:26 Chippenham -> Swi 09:38 09:40 Swi -> London Paddington 11:03

Surely some solution can be found. I'm surprised there isn't a track level crossing that could be used with the right assistance. Failing that, a taxi to the next station up the line would make more sense than a round trip the wrong way!

Taxi to next up would be Didcot which is 20 mins by train and 40 by road, and relies on finding an accessible vehicle for me and the powered chair. I hate to think what that would cost them..... whereas this has cost them an £8 return ticket and done it quicker IF all goes to plan.
