A gritty reboot of Noah's ark? That could be very amusing indeed.

This film was never going to please the classical 'Sunday School' interpretation traditional Christians in America would inevitably demand given that its source material is much wider than the take on Noah we have in the modern form of Genesis. Mind you that would probably make a fairly horrific film that would upset such audiences in itself!
Just release the film Paramont! Have some balls.

I've been reading reviews of this on American Christian websites this evening. Clearly the vast majority of them do not 'get' either the film, the director's intent, the Biblical story nor the stories pre-Biblical heritage and where it came from and why in its modern form. I'm pretty sure I predicted everything in advance on this review for instance (all of which just makes me want to take hold of the reviewer and shake some sense into him): www.christianitytoday.com/edstetzer/2014/february/noah-five-negative-features-about-this-film.htmlEven the one review which was overwhelmingly positive became very muddled halfway through in some misplaced attempt to place a global flood into actual world history to the point where the reviewer is comfortable suggesting (with no justification other than it making sense apparently) that the landscape was 'magical' before the flood and that explains some of the liberties taken in the film. We are just on the wrong side of the Flood to see it and share the magic of those earlier times!! Random. Sigh. All the negative reviews are however making me want to see the film more and more. Can't wait!

Would one of the reviewers be Ray Comfort by any chance, Gavin? He’s gone as far to produce his own alternate film. I’m still reserving judgement for whenever I see the film for myself before I agree/disagree with any of the critique.
At the end of the day, it’s a film, a passive media that moves on quickly. In a few months time, I am sure the same sites will move on to rant and rave about the Nick Cage starring Left Behind remake when its out. That could be a real corker!
So far, I’ve seen no positive feedback on NOAH (or HAON as its being nicknamed) from anyone local I know who has seen it, not just reviews on the net. Still want to catch it sooner or later, and I’ve already given it props from the non bath-tub Ark shown in the trailer.

Still want to catch it sooner or later, and I’ve already given it props from the non bath-tub Ark shown in the trailer. Not seen anything about Ray Comfort's opinions on it. I generally avoid most things put out by him film or otherwise. It has been getting a lot of negative reviews from either people who haven't seen it (and never have any intention to) and/or people who don't quite 'get' 1) that the Noah story is derivative of other ancient Near Eastern flood stories and is 2) there to teach a theological lesson, not necessarily to portray supremely accurate history. The film is very much in the tradition of Jewish midrash, where stories from Scripture are drawn on and expanded to show new meanings and put emphasis overlooked points of view emerging from the baseline narrative of the story. The religious 'fuss' over Noah comes from many Christians (and many Muslims too) who today tie up the authority and trustworthiness of the theological message of the Bible with a very modern demand of total historical accuracy from the Old Testament. A claim that neither the Bible itself, nor the Jewish (and earlier) origins of today's contemporary Old Testament, regards as either intended nor necessary. Little wonder that people like Ray Comfort seem somewhat annoyed by the films mere existence. The film should be a great opportunity for Christians to really engage with the story of Noah and to use it as a driver to examine the historical development of the Bible in order to better appreciate what it is we do believe. It is unfortunately unlikely that this will happen and instead we will resort to negative reviews and beating our chests because the film it is not 'the' 'correct' version of the Noah story (and how dare it no be so - grr, etc!).

That name rings a bell, isn't that the guy who did that video disproving evolution by using the banana as evidence, as it could not possibly have evolved by itself? (And it didn't, as bananas are like they are due to thousands of years of careful cultivation by man )

Half expect to see him kick a mammoth in the chest and yell "THIS! IS! GENESIS!" HA HA HA HA!!!!! Brilliant!!!! End of the day, I'm a Christian, Noah and his Ark is a great story, so let's tell it. Holywood--- Engage. (would that be a 'Mawashi-geri round-house' kick or a 'Yoko-geri side' kick?)
