Phil has asked me to post this while he is incommunicado in hospital.
It seems the latest Generations Book's Ultra Magnus retrospective is missing two Magni by his counting.
The challenge is on for eagle-eyed and knowledgeable chaps on the forum to tell us who.

That sucks. Hope things go alright.
Not having the image/article/whatever, I can only take a wild guess.
I know that this is a japanese publication, so I'm assuming it's about toys.
And likely will be some older obscure american/western release.
My guesses are Universe RiD Spychanger and universe/armada RiD repaint ultra magnus.

Nope both of those are there.
One is the original Japanese version of a toy who's US version is shown but the other is there.
One, arguably two, are shown in other articles in the book so they had photo reference so that's not really forgiveable.
And I've just found another missing Japanese one.

Haven't seen the book, but some Magnuses'es that could quite easily be left out or forgotten could be the original blue faced/completely white cab version, the transforming G2 watch, Junior Toys, that yellow (dare I say it and I think I dare;)'Piss' coloured re-issue, or perhaps the Energon Overload recolour?

The yellow "peepee prime" magnus originated from the japanese, and they were REALLY proud of it. Plus, it actually stands out the most of any magnus. I doubt they would forget it.
I hedge my bets most on fairly obscure western exclusives they didn't get.

Looking back at G1/2 - why didn't we have more Ultra Magnus toys. Ultra Magnus was the only Movie toy that wasn't a new model. But Hasbro could have done repaints of the other Prime toys.
Powermaster without Godbomber but with a new head & painted white cab - but with the trailer base mode removed so you can fit cars in the back. Action master - painted white but new head / trailer. G2 repaint with big missiles.

Good point. The only reason I can think of is the massive, negative reaction that fans had to them killing off Optimus Prime in the movie. I can imagine that the Hasbro marketing execs, not thinking too clearly about this, decided that Optimus Prime was the only leader anyone wanted to see, and that no-one wanted Ultra Magnus.
But then given that the same company gave us Action Master Thundercracker, who knows what they were thinking..?

Also, after '85, hasbro almost never repainted anything. The only exceptions to this come from micromasters, and a handful of european actionmasters.
And as pointed out, they almost never recycled characters before G2.
Hasbro preferred to make new toys and new characters, and explore new concepts and new stories.
G1 was literally the polar opposite of what we have today.
I'm not surprised at all that Ultra Magnus never turned up in G1 again.
And if he had, it's more likely he'd have been a completely new toy. Especially if he were an actionmaster.

I think we should petition for a Ultra Magnus powermaster toy. It would really work if they don't do a base mode & look at the Optimus original. But make it so classic DX cars can go on the trailer. But don't go too RID.

I knew I had seen Action master image before but couldn't remmeber where. I was getting the Beast Neo repaints on search. But Magnus should be carrying cars so Hasbro did miss out in reusing him. they could have "Ultra Magnus rolls in with reinforcements - other Autobots cars sold in all good toy shops & not included in box"
