I can't access the URL, annoying. Does it mention a proposed prequel to the original movie?
I have a strong desire to watch an Alien Vs. reimagined Star Trek. Admittedly, the Aliens wouldn't look quite as good in the bright lights of the Enterprise's Apple store, but the potential to introduce Winona Ryder as Spock's mother and an android in the same film would amuse and confuse.

Yeah, it's a Ridley Scott directed prequel.

I've been disappointed with the Alien films ever since the mess that was Alien 3. Anyway, if this new one is called Alien 5 whatever happened to Alien 4? As far as I'm aware after Alien 3 we had a couple of Alien vs. Predator films but no Alien 4 or am I missing something here?

Alien 4 was Alien: Resurrection. It was okay.

Ah yes. I forgot about that one. As I recall that one was better than Alien 3 but still couldn't top the first two films.

I only own the first two Alien films - and two copies of the first one because there were some decent extras that didn't make it to the re-release. The others were very poor I thought, and the only remaining bit of interest I had in the Alien franchise was a few years back when there was talk of a Scott produced, Cameron directed Alien 5. That didn't happen of course but now we're getting a Sir Ridders directed prequel... wahaay! Count me in!

The other films don't really hold up, but the original still captivates me. Must re-acquire the DVD at some point. Best viewed with the light off and sound through headphones.

Alien 3 is an underappreciated work of awsome. Alien: Resurrection was very very poor.

I've got the Alien Quadrilogy boxset (which I brought for the amazing price of £19). The second film is the best in my opinion but the first is still a masterpiece. As for the third, well, I thought there was far too much swearing in it.

Alien 3 was very well filmed with a fantastic cast and feel to it. For me though, the story was utter pants. Made everything that happened in Aliens a waste of time. Alien and Aliens though are two of my fave films of all time. 4, crap. Just a remake. A prequel? And did someone say Ridley Scott? Ohhhhh Mama!!!!!

I am incredibly confused that Zudobug didn't know there was four Alien films despite having the Quadrilogy boxset...

I'm a huge, HUGE fan of the Alien movies (certainly the first three) but it has become a very abusive relationship for me over the last few years - culminating in Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem, which is probably the worst film I have ever, ever seen. So I greet this news with a mixture of hope and fear. Hope, because it's Sir Rid coming back, perhaps to take the franchise into interesting new territory, hopefully to end it all with some style. Fear, because I'm the first to admit there really isn't much you can do with the chitinous beasties that we haven't seen before. I also remember getting very excited about Ridley Scott directing the sequel to Silence of the Lambs, and we all know how that turned out. Great as he is, he's far from infallable.
It's another case of wait and see. At least you can be pretty confident that it'll look good, regardless.

I have my fingers crossed that this could be good.
I love Alien and Aliens. Alien 3 was flawed but interesting, Resurrection and the v Predator films are forgettable.

Went through a period of being obsessed by the Alien films in my teens. Read all the books, comics ect. The Bisley covers were amazing to look at at.

They're making an Alien 5? I thought it was all about the AVP at the moment. Jolly good.

I am incredibly confused that Zudobug didn't know there was four Alien films despite having the Quadrilogy boxset... Its been a while since I watched the boxset and I thought recently that the quadrilogy boxset contained the first three Alien films and the first Alien vs. Predator film.

I've been following this with interest since it was stuck in development hell in its original form as a new Alien film. There was a spat between the studio and Ridley Scott initially: he had picked another director for it but the studio would not make it unless he directed it.

Ridley Scott's original Alien vision was very different to how the franchise developed in other media, focusing on the Aliens being used by scientists, corporations and the military... I highly doubt there is any mention of the Alien homeworld in this movie, as well as developing of the Space Jockey back story to be massively different to that of the comic.

I highly doubt there is any mention of the Alien homeworld in this movie, You are assuming that they actually have anything that could be defined as a homeworld, and that they are actually a proper species. Looking at the first film (and disregarding the canon accretion that took place afterward I would say that is up for grabs. I am looking forward to Prometheus, and whilst I regret that Ridley Scott has had to end up directing a project he wanted to stand at a remove from I think that a Skiffy/horror hybrid with Scott's eye and vision involved holds a lot of promise. I don't really mind how clear a light it shines on "Alien" (I half-expect and end result that leaves us with at least as many questions as it bothers answering), but I look forward to seeing a revisitation of some of the themes and elements. I think the evidence in the trailer suggests that's the same world in Alien & Aliens

I think the evidence in the trailer suggests that's the same world in Alien & Aliens I strongly suspect that to be the case. I just remain on the fence as to whether the creature in Alien qualifies as having a "homeworld" or whether it has a "place of manufacture". Karl

I'm on the fence. Doesn't really do anything for me, dispite being alien continuity. But then, I don't like any Alien movie where there's fewer than a swarm of them. ALIENS is the penical of the franchise. And Alien is near the bottom. First one wasn't bad by a longshot, I just found it to be extremely boring. Second one is one of the best scifi movies of all time. Third one is pretty bad. Resurrection has a redeeming factor in that there's a lot of them. It's a better popcorn flick, but still pretty bad. AvP was really good, ispecially if you're a fan of the novels. Again, a lot of them makes it more fun. AvP:R is one of the worst movies I've ever seen. Stupid, made no sense, tons of things that are in direct conflict with established cinema continuity (let alone surrounding fiction). And I hoped every single dumbass person in it got killed because they all deserved to die for being morons.
Prometheus hasn't really shown me anything to give me high hopes. And no, I'm not expecting the xenos to show up. Just.. nothing about the "Space Jockey" interested me in the first place. Unless the twist is he's from Brother Warth's race.

I do have a soft spot for Alien 3. It's a mess, but I've always found it to be an intriguing mess especially in the alternate cut. It at least tries for something approaching meaning, whereas the films that followed were just generic sequel crap.
