Ooops.
May have caused a bit of a stir by pointing out the head for the combined robot isn't in the bags in those pictures!

Now, I may be an Optimus Prime completist (of sorts), but even so... I think I'll not cancel my order for double glazing just yet.

I love the comparison to the Venus de Milo when the seller is discussing the missing combiner head!

I've looked really hard but I can't see the Holy Grail in that 'Holy Grail' auction. Just some robots.

Merged with previous thread on cancelled G2 toys and then renamed cos we don't have a G2 thread.
Hmmm, aren't there some posts somewhere from where the same guy had a G2 Menasor up for Auction. EDIT: Found!
Nothing wrong with the First Aid! Like how the Teal is common across all five toys.
If he's auctioning the set maybe Cullen would like to bid?

I meant that gold in some of his critical joints, not his deco. That's why he makes me cringe.

I'm with Shockers. I don't get the love for the garish colours. I hated them in the 90s and still do. Those make Defensor look like a cheap knock off.

It's nostalgic longing for a time that was exactly as crap as it is now.

A few years ago I worte a G2 article for a magazine that Andu produced. In it I argued that everyone remembered G2 as "the line with the crap repaints" but there was so much more to it than that including some of the best stuff in the line:
Combat Heroes Cyberjets ATB Laser Rod Prime
We get Megatron as a tank for the first time, albeit heralded by Action Masters, we get vastly increased articulation with the coming og the ball joint and, by the end of the line, we're starting to get weaponry that's concealed in robot mode. The Line took a HUGE leap forward during 94/5.

I'd agree there. The "Generation 2" moniker was very appropriate happenstance really, because the line was a generational leap forward in design. New materials and new manufacturing techniques had come along in the years since the line launched, but it feels like it is only with late G2 that they really get to grips with what these things let them do. Kind of like jumping up a tech level and finding a whole new set of options you didn't have before.

I do agree. The original moulds are fine if oddly coloured and Laser Rod Prime is a hole in my collection, but the repaints of the older moulds just degrade the majesty of the originals. The Dinobots are horrible.
I see the transformers as characters. I don't get why any of them would want to colour themselves like that. It's like seeing boy racers driving round in blacked out cars with bright orange wheels. Why make yourself look like an idiot?

That's EXACTLY what makes them so awesome! The sheer absurdity of it! Besides, it was really mainly the combiners that went to such extremes. The rest had some really, genuinely nice decos. The autobot cars were very tasteful: -Sideswipe was merely a color inversion. -Jazz had some fun music stickers on him, but otherwise unchanged. -Inferno was unchanged. -Optimus had a hue shift, with most of the major changes done to his trailer. -Minibots were just vac-metalized, with Bee and Seaspray being the exact colors the originals were. Hubcap changed to red to make him different from bee, and Beachcomber... No one knows why he's green, but it's not horrible.
-Seekers were some odd changes, but Starscream was still pretty tasteful. -Dinobots were really nice looking. -Constructicons in yellow were actually MORE realistic and sensible than their G1 selves. (That orange though is a left fielder)
-Laserrods were realistic colors, with no contrasts. -Skyscorchers weren't terrible -axellorators, ditto. They had some sharp contrasts, though. But it actually works. -Cyberjets were a mixed bag, but usually were very grounded decos.
So it was mostly the combiners who bore the brunt of the most garish colorschemes.
G2's deco choices, even the really sensible ones get a really bad rap for not being exactly the same thing as their G1 releases. Largely due to it just being different. They're not used to seeing Grimlock in blue (though he looks better than more recent Grimlocks), or Sideswipe in black.

There's a distinct not using the same colour twice in an assortment going on here, hence Sideswipe's colour swap, though for me the red doesn't really work on the head and hands. The same would appear to be true for Bumblebee and Hubcap, though they might have been aiming for Cliffjumper there, and Seaspray & Beachcomber.
