I'd like a good Judge Dredd film, other than robocop!
Someone on the tooth boards suggested Ron Perelman for Dredd. Now I'd get behind that.

Pinch of salt duly taken. I wouldn't mind seeing a decent attempt at a Dredd film(as opposed to the attempt we have already had...) but it'll be a while before this can be treated as anything more than an aspiration/vapourware.

I never give my patronage to 3D-only films. If a film company can't be arsed to release a film in 2D, then I can't be arsed to see it.
Crap trailer anyway. I'm not sure it was meant to be funny. Can't judge a final completed film from a trailer anyway, I have learned!
It also looks very, very similar to The Raid.

Not really feeling that trailer to be honest. Ralph is bang on about it resembling The Raid, but without that films saving grace of unusual looking fight choreography.
Hmm. I shall wait to see if there are any 2D showings and then decide how I feel. If there aren't any 2D screenings then it will be a moot point as I won't be able to see it anyway.

Let's all remember that Dredd was shot in 2010 so technically The Raid looks similar to it.

Oh, I am fully aware of that, but it's still the reaction I got from it.
Can't see what the internet is raving about in that trailer. Looks like a very cheap straight-to-DVD-generic action flick with a dude in a silly helmet who can't talk properly. Honestly, I guffawed when he first spoke.
BUT!
I have seen a few films this year that had awful and misrepresentative trailers for films I really liked, ie War Horse: hated the trailer, really enjoyed the film.

Indeed. One thing that going to the cinema more has taut me is that it isn't always that the trailers lie... It is more like they sometimes have a serious concussion and aren't quite on the same planet as the actual film. ("Silent House" is a good example there). I shall await the actual film and see what it is like - after all, with the Unlimited Card at my side the only thing that is likely to lead to me not seeing it would be a lack of showings.

I think I actually prefer the aesthetic of the Stallone movie. This doesn't scream Mega-City One at me... Apart from that, it's so far, so very generic action film.

It's a clever idea, but my reaction on seeing the trailer was to think: "Oh, it's The Raid again" and shrugged my shoulders and I've read Dredd on and off since the 80's. I wonder how general audiences are reacting to it!

Glad there is a 2d showing in Derry, because my last 3d experience was awful. Glasses on top of glasses is generally a poor experience, in my book 3d just doesn't work well.

Due to my known isues with 3D the only showing available to me in Scotland is the one in Glasgow, and it doesn't really suit my work etc schedule - unless it hangs on until the public holiday next weekend, which I strongly doubt, and I can fit it in around other things.
I am mostly resigned to renting it when it comes out on DVD. Ah well, I will be able to watch a couple of Street Judges deal with crime in the Megacity Sprawl whilst sprawled on my own couch.

I will never see it. I'm not paying for a DVD to watch a film that should have been released properly in the cinema. I shall grab some Dredd audiobooks instead and keep enjoying 2000AD for my fix of The Law!
3D can fuck off. If it was that important to how films should be seen it would only be released in all media formats in 3D but oh wait there is always a 2D DVD. FUCK OFF!

I've now seen Dredd twice in the cinema, in spite of my aversion to 3D.
3D nay-sayers are entirely correct to be scornful, as the 3D aspect really doesn't add anything to the movie. However, it's also not obtrusive or headache-inducing.
Moreover...
THIS FILM IS MUCKING BRILLIANT!
Speaking as a long term Dredd fan (I've been reading the lawman's adventures off and on since I was 10) I can honestly say this captured the character very well indeed.
Granted, it's not perfect. I have reservations about the look of Mega City 1, and I don't appreciate how real, gen-u-wine, make-yer-mother-blush swears have been used instead of the expected drokks and stomms. It could also have used a bit more punch in the pacing department. But those are about my only complaints, and they're easy to overlook.
Bottom line: THIS IS A COMIC BOOK MOVIE DONE RIGHT, a feat that's all the more laudable for having been accomplished on exactly HALF the budget of the diabolical Stallone Dredd. It's uncompromisingly brutal, loaded with excellent character moments and - 99% of the time - treats Dredd and Anderson respecrfully in a manner faithful to their comic book portrayals.
Haters gonna hate on this movie, sure, but I refuse to hear a bad word said about a movie that gives me Olivia Thirlby in a Judge's uniform.
Also - it ain't The Raid. And even if it WAS, it'd be made immediately better for having Dredd in it.
See my point? Good. Now SUCK ON IT!

Saw the film today, it was okay, some good acting, not a hugely fascinating plot and there wasn't enough going on for me. Also showing shiny things in ultra-slow motion was boring 5 minutes into the film by the end I wanted to punch the director.
Not a terrible film, but not that good either.
