Home video release next week. I've just been looking what versions are available. There appears to be: DVD 1 disc Triple Play Films 1-3 DVD set Films 1-3 BluRay set. None of the websites I looked at had any details of special features. So, no 2-disc edition or exclusive covers/boxes for this one?  |

Another example of how annoying this forsaking special edition dvds for the blu ray and triple play options is. You can get two films in a three film series on special edition dvd but then you can't get the next one in the same format.

I too am annoyed by this. Nevertheless, I shall be buying the Triple Play and watching it Monday night with the aid of wine.

It was watchable at the cinema, but I think it will die on the small screen due to lack of coherent plot or characters so will pass on the DVD.

I got the "digital copy" or whatever you want to call it when it came out on the US iTunes store, and in that version one of Bruce's lines is redubbed to say "fuckin'" where he originally said "frickin'" in the cinema.
If anyone has a good ear while watching the UK version I'll be interested to know if that change is there as well.
It's the scene where Bruce (Malkovich) comes to Carly's apartment.

It has been acquired.
There appear to be absolutely zero extras, on either disc! How lazy is that!
I gave my lawn its last mow of the year first thing in the morning, knowing rain was on the way, and then went on to overachieve at work. I have earnt the right to drink away my evening with a mindless blockbuster.
Right, here goes. See you all in about three hours' time!

Well, I thoroughly, thoroughly enjoyed that. Was laughing at all the throwaway gags. My verdict is that the effect of an entire bottle of white wine consumed more than compensates for anything lost by the transition to the small screen.
I have even come to the conclusion now that the film has a decent plot.
White wine always makes me feel euphoric. Honestly, I don't know why I ever bother drink other alcoholic beverages.

And now, having watched the film for the third time, all I can think is this:
Buzz Aldrin.
Seriously.
In a Transformers film.
Think of the significance of this individual as a terrestrial organism on planet Earth, out of all the terrestrial organisms that have ever lived in the 500,000,000 years since complex life broke out.
His filmography is minuscule.
Optimus wasn't kidding when he said the honour was his.
Buzz Aldrin.
Think about it.

In an intelligent version of Transformers, Buzz Aldrin would be a close fit. In this thing, no.
Yes, I did derive some entertainment from the third film (far more than the first two) but that was mostly not the entertainment the film makers were going for, I suspect!
I still feel an intelligent and exciting TF film could be made, but I'm not holding my breath!

Though that said, I don't recall the other films having many if any extras to speak of, I remember being quite surprised at how barebones the TF1 release was. |

TF1 had a Micheal Bay commentary on the one disc edition, and I think three whole Special Effects featurettes (and the commentary) on the two discer. Not much at all, really. Didn't touch ROFD so, dunno.

It looks like studios have become annoyed that people didn't stop buying DVDs when they declared them dead and so are trying to herd people onto the interim format because we are not following their plan. The single disc version of the first live action film did have a directors commentary - which I actually got more out of than I did the film to be honest but not a lot else than I can recall. As to DOTaMan itself, I think it is a prime example of a film that it funny in the places that it wasn't supposed to be (and generally vice versa), but mostly because I was in company. I think if I had seen it on my own I would have had a far harsher reaction to it. (Quite fancy buying the score though - once again I recall that being distinctly better than the actual film it was embedded in) Given the amount of money the live action movies have made to date I doubt we will ever see a Transformers movie that is actually good. Making bad films is clearly a winning strategy there and I don't think they will deviate from it. Karl |

The packaging indicates no extras on any version released thus far.
RE: Blu-Ray not replacing DVD. I find that quite interesting. We seem to be moving away from 'new media format replaces old media format and that's all you'll get'. While there has been a steady uptake of Blu-Ray it is not replacing DVD. Consumers seem to be happy to have a choice of formats. I actually quite like that we now have, essentially, different viewing formats and folk can choose which versions they want (DVD, Blu-Ray, digital downloads, online streaming video). There really isn't any need to have just one format now. Blu-Ray is an additional format rather than a replacement. I actually expect downloads and streaming to be the game changer.
When companies do pull the silly trick of just putting extras on the Blu-Ray that could fit on a DVD they actually lose a sale from me as I don't like paying full price for a needlessly incomplete product.

I thought I had read somewhere that there was going to be a special edition released in America on the 28th of November. Surprisingly I couldn't find a shop in New York that sold "popular" DVDs or CDs so I couldn't see if this was true. I put this down to Black Friday and Cyber Monday making physical shops unprofitable as Americans seem to do most of their shopping online.

I got it yesterday with the 4 free postcards. The only thing wrong with the film is that guys back who can't act. The one with the rubbish name who's been in all 3 films & Bumblebee has his car.
