Thanks, I've changed the link. It looks like Toys 'n' Playthings moved the page. I see the news has already been mentioned in the Toys>Star Trek thread anyway.

There's gonna be Battleship Kreo too.
A vid I posted earlier shows off a ton of really good TF Kreo stuff (at around the 55mins mark). There's a display case in the footage of all the new Kreons yet to be released. I beleive there was a Kreon for Knockout too.

If they turn this into a line, they may actually get me buying Kre-o.
It seems like sci-fi is a winner for licensed construction toys. Lego has Star Wars, Mega Bloks has Halo, CB has Doctor Who. Will this put Kre-o on the map?

Every store in my area, save for TRU is purging Kreo, and will not carry them anymore. I fully believe Hasbro is on the right track and has something golden with Kreo (Unlike Built to rule). However, lisences alone cannot make a buiding line. They just can't stand up to the juggernaut known as Lego without serious expansion.
In order for Kreos to survive, I feel they really need to branch out and build an exceptionally strong generic world. There are a *lot* of areas that Lego for one reason or another have not tapped, or hasn't tapped for an exceptionally long time. Toy and model trains are extremely popular state side (Dunno about overseas). They're popular with young kids, and they're popular with a specific subset of adults with a pretty good chunk of money to spend.
Trains and building block sets almost seem like a no-brainer... which is surprising that Lego has never really tapped this. Seems to me like it could be a perfect starting place for Kreo. Start with the trains, and build compatable city and country sets around it.
A strong military theme may do well, aslo (Stronger than Battleship).
The could also make something unique with sets and characters based on antiquity. Romans, greek, chinese, maya, aztek. I could see something based on greek heroes, simular to Lego's new monster fighters.
Basically, I think that Kreo has the potential to step out of the minor leagues of not-lego brands, and actually become something close to a serious rival of Lego. However, if you look at Lego themselves, the lisences are fun, and great money makers... but they are not the company's backbone. They never have been, and I think if they ever do become the backbone, Lego will finally fall. I believe if Kreo wants to be more than a flash in the pan, they need to seriously up their game and branch into generic type sets, instead of relying on transformers as their backbone

I agree that branching into other play patterns could help KREO.
LEGO, however, has a long tradition of producing working train sets and railway environments. They are fantastic fun!

The odd thing is my friends two sons love the kreo I got them for Christmas, admittedly they might be in the minority or Hasbro have just failed to market.
Maybe the movie theme was a mistake, it seems like the market has reached saturation for it now. The new lines with a more G1 vibe look much better.

I agree with Bogatan. I think the movie theme hurts kreo. I also think it's not particularly brilliant of them to package a full scale optimus prime, and have an optimus prime minifigure to drive them.
Personal opinion is that the TF minifigures work better as part of environment sets, while the model TFs work better on their own.

We heard about this a year ago. I had assumed it had vanished into vapourware. Good to see it coming out. Has potential to be much more suitable for the property than TF though will still be stuck with that horrid minifig design. -Ralph

Yeah, saw that today. Never saw it at full retail!
Looking at it, I can see one reason why KREO may not be selling: rather obviously crap CG of the product on the back (makes the product look a bit KO). Compare and contrast with the photos used on Lego packaging. It's much easier to get a feel for what you are getting.

When I was out today, I found the GI Joe Kre-Os. A massive display of them, too.
Everytime I buy a Kreo set, it's so frustraiting. (I picked up one of the battleship alien crafts. Not becaus I liked it. but it was on clearance, and I got it for the pieces). I still say Hasbro needs to beef up the brand with generic sets. They have so many unique parts that they need to get them out there. Fall back on some of lego's tricks, and sell buckets of Kre-Os, with a book of multiple things a child could build with the pieces in the bucket. Just... do SOMETHING to get this brand really moving!
Also, something that's come as a bit of a surprise to everyone it seems, is Lego's success with their girls Lego Friends line. It's wildly popular here... and popular enough that Mattel and Megabloks are doing Megabloks Barbi.
I'm honestly surprised that Hasbro hasn't jumped onto this bandwagon with something along the lines of Kre-O My Little Pony: Equestrian Adventures, or something. Make little pony kreons that have removable/swappable manes, tails, wings, horns, and accessories (Hats, dresses), and build up the world of equestria: Zecora's Magic Shoppe. Twilight Sparkle's Library. Happy Apple Acres Barn, with Applejack. Mr and Mrs Cake's Bakery, with Pinkie Pie. Fluttershy's Animal Daycare. Rarity's Fashon Boutique. Cloudsdale Races, with Rainbow Dash. Ms Cheerilee's School. Cutie Mark Crusader's (Not-so) Secret Clubhouse. The Royal Palace with Princess Celestia and Princess Luna.
Then the blind packs, with Ditzy-Doo, Vinal Scratch, Doctor Whooves, Lyra Heartstrings, Trixie, and all the background and one-off characters everyone loves.
This seems like a no-brainer, to me. Hell, this might be the first success Hasbro would have with Kre-O.
And this is why Kre-O is so frustrating to me! There are so many choices they could make, from cheap and simple (Like the bucket idea), to major popular franchises Hasbro owns.
It's like they want the success... and genuinely try, but won't bother throwing any real money behind their concept to back it and promote it.
I had the idea here while back for a great Kre-O exclusive franchise, Timejumpers: Timejumpers features the adventures of Time Agent Jack "Jack" Jackson (Jack for short), and his friends and Partners, as he hunts down a mad scientist (And his henchmen) who escaped into the timestream, following them across all different ages in Earth's history trying to capture them, and repair what what damage they've caused. Could have sets based in the old west, fuedal japan, ancient egypt, rome, the mesozoic, the future... Can have a different Jack in the garb of the time period, plus the badguy, and whoever he teams up with. Hasbro can team up with IDW to include a small comic with each set that tells a chapter in the overall story. They can contract with the company doing Prime, to make an action/comedy animated series based on this (would be much cheaper to do that Prime), IDW comics... hell, they could even ripoff Traveller's Tales and do a simular videogame. The whole point is to not only create something that kreo can call it's own, but to increase brand awareness and lift it out of the duldrums of being "a lego knockoff."

I imagine the only reason they've not done this is because they don't want the cost of creating another 'default body' since they can use the same one for GI Joe, Transformers etc. Despite that it would probably sell far more than their other sets. Oh, also, girls don't play with lego remember? I'm still disappointed that the lego friends line doesn't use the standard minifigs, it seems to really reduce options for compatibility with other sets. As a kid my sister liked the Paradiso stuff so it's not like the minifigs were offputting. Is it popular DESPITE that or BECAUSE of it? Who knows!
