Depending on how a certain collection-only auction goes on eBay this evening, I may have to part company with the squad on the Thursday once we reach Brum and race off into the hinterlands for a couple of hours. It'll be worth it.
If I win.

I sorted out a room at the City Centre Comfort Inn near New St station for a very reasonable price on laterooms.com just now. £145 for 4 nights and easy access to the brief train ride to the NEC beside the con hotel. Hooray! -Ralph I think that's where I stayed in 2011, if I remember correctly they use regular, non-card shaped keys (MADNESS!) It was nice though, no one tried to break in or anything, so that's a plus to me

I have arranged train tickets this morning for myself and a detachment of the Scots lads. So that is my accommodation and travel sorted out. I shall have money in the budget for the important things - food, drink and some monies to raid Simon Furman's box of comics if he brings it so that's fine. Might have something besides for a T-shirt or two if anyone has any good ones which'll be a nice bonus if it so transpires.

Finally booked up (number 715, which is a very impressive attendance - well done to the organisers). Sadly, I can only make it for the Saturday, but at least I'll be there this year. Hopefully next year I'll be able to go for the whole thing. Anyway, looking forward to it, and hope to see you all there!

This year I have published an incredibly limited stock of the comic I worked on for the Cybertronian times convention magazine, as the CT will be available as a digital download only this year. These comics are so limited in numbers that I can't in good conscience hold any in reserve for anyone, and it will be first-come-first-served. It's non-profit and will cost you a fiver to try and help me cover the printing cost a little (even if I sold every copy at the cover price I'm still making a loss, so there you go). So anyone who has enjoyed my AA strips in the last four years, please stop by my table and snag a copy. The strip is called 'Stinging Pride', stars Bumblebee, and is dedicated to Dan Gilvezan, who will be in attendance should you like to get it signed. As well as Dan and obviously myself, all of my co-contributors (Liam Shalloo, Ben Pirrie, Graham Thomson, Alies Meerman and Andy Turnbull) will be in attendance if you want to get really anal with your signings. I would.

If you put the pen up for sale online afterwards, with the story for context, you'd probably cover the rest of your printing costs. I'm just saying. Lot of people out there who are into that sort of thing. You may also want to imply you were dressed as a bee at the time.

Andy - you did a great quiz. I was expecting everyone to get all the answers right away. Can't wait to see next years.
For anyone taking part in the UK covers question - just remember the the xmas issue then you only have to think about a certain year.

Probably my most subdued con out of the 10 or so Transformers cons I have been to. Combo of low budget and doing stuff for Toy-Fu but mostly due to tiring effect of a foot injury I acquired on the way down last Thursday. Nothing terrible and healing up nicely but very painful and energy sapping for a few days. Did mean early nights or lacking the concentration to seek folk out to socialise when I had time, alas. Also got nowhere near the guest tables and only 1 beer all trip! However, there is always next year! It never ends. Nice to see some folk and help out anyway.

Nice catching up with many friends, convention was a little underwhelming but few good moments of craic and purchased a little haul of awesome...
Until next time?

Yeah, this year was a bit of a bust. Toy-fu didn't have nearly as much fancy high-value stock this year owing to my lack of employment but that was only part of the equation. Not much stock, fierce competition and a desperate shortage of cash among the attendees hammered pretty much everybody. The cashpoints in the hotel ran out on Saturday and were offline all Sunday so a lot of attendees only had the money they came with.
Still, we sold plenty of donated items and still raised a good chunk for Mary's Meals. Our running total is a shade under £2400, but we still have a couple of payments to come in and we haven't heard from the AA folk yet how much they made from the charity auction and raffle. Could have been better, but still a good result.
Frankly, I blame the quilters.

Yes, the general lack of buzz in the dealer area compared to previous years was a great disappointment. Sunday was pretty dead.
