Radio 4 have a Mars season on at the moment - flagship drama of which is a new adaptation of War of the Worlds. First ep was last weekend. It's a bit dry, but the effects for the Martians are spot on. www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p04t360q/members

Hot on the heels of the new War of the Worlds comes a cracking two-part adaptation of Journey to the Centre of the Earth. Worth a listen. www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b08j9r66

Off-topic, but I assume you've noticed NT Live: Macbeth is on next Thursday? Martin

I have. I hope it is better than the recent RSC Live: Macbeth which was seven shades of awful!

Aww, it's alright. It's hard to live up to something like Dad's Army. Parsley Sidings is better. Although that isn't a direct Dad's Army spin off, it has Arthur Lowe and Ian Lavender in it in similar roles.

It is a direct spin-off! They are playing the same characters! Though not Arthur Lowe as he passed away after the pilot. I direct you to the informative wikipedia link.
EDIT: I am confused. Are you referring to the mysterious Parsley Sidings???
IT STICKS OUT HALF A MILE is not that. It is a direct sequel to DAD'S ARMY.

What I was saying is that It Sticks Out Half a Mile isn't that bad, it's okay. I know it reuses the Dad's Army characters. I was just adding that Parsley Sidings is better and has some of the Dad's Army cast in it, but not playing Dad's Army characters. Parsley Sidings had some Carry On people in it too, like Kenneth Connor.

I must battle you at dawn, Pinwig.
I listened to ep 2 of ITOHAM last night before it fell off the Iplayer (ep 1 was already gone) with much excitement at discovering a spin-off to the mighty Dad's Army that I did not know existed!
25 minutes later I had resolved to destroy the human race.

I've got all of Parsley Sidings recorded from Radio 4 Extra. I will now have to listen to them again to work out which episodes Roger Delgado is in.
There is a strange Quatermassy symmetry to this. I'll probably find out he isn't in any of them.

Enjoying YES MINISTER on radio Iplayer. Never got on with it on telly: works so much better on audio. Worryingly, the portrayal of politics feels like it was written last week and not over 30 years ago!

A 'Dick Barton - Special Agent' serial is on the radio Iplayer. Hilarious cheese. The cliffhanger for episode 1 fair had me chuckling.

It is immense fun and worth checking out before it falls off the radio Iplayer. Just bear in mind that some lines come from a different era (it's an early 70's remake of a 1946 serial).
YOU WILL ALSO FIND THE URGE TO TALK IN CAPITAL LETTERS. ALL THE TIME!

Hasn't IPlayer been superseded by 'BBC Sounds' now for radio?

Well the radio Iplayer app still works as I am still using it! There's nothing wrong with it so I plan to keep using it until the BBC switches it off. I have paid for it via the licence tax after all!

I think BBC Sounds is just a different interface to the same content. I'm still able to access everything the way I've always done.
