Our new lad at work enjoys Radio 1. He puts it on while he works. He is free to make that choice.
But, my word, they play some absolute fucking shite these days! And every song is repeated at least five times during the day. To my aging ears it's just noise.
It's like rap music but with choruses processed through a pitch shifter. I don't know what genre that is. And I don't want to know.
And worst of all; Edith Bowman puts on a choice of two equally excremental tracks and you have to vote in for your favourite which she'll play at the end.
It makes me want to funnel seventeen earwigs into my colon with torches and a map to my eardrums.
And, really, Radio 2 is no better. They're just as repetitive.
Rants like this make me feel old. This is just what my elders used to say. I'm sorry.

What is this "Radio 1" Stuff a couple of these down your new lad's ears. If that fails give me a shout and I'll send around a bunch of the old boys from the Welsh valleys. Martin

at least you put some decent composers up there and not chopin! hate that guy.... and anything natalie wheeeeen presents, it always sounds like someone is playing the piano with their fists or slapping the keys. Gabriel's Oboe, is one of the funniest classical pieces I have heard in my life....but thats mostly becasue oif the title. I like KISS as it introduced me to Lupe Fiasco, my fave rapper right now! "...and if the rain stops, and everythings dry she would cry jus so I could drink the tears from her eyes..." one of my favourite lines from his song "The Coolest"

Today is St David's Day. Outside the front of City Hall they were trying to get a parade of some sort going. I dunno who the singer was, but she was trying to compete with a loud jazz band on the steps of the museum next door, and some bag-pipers heading in from another direction.
Fortunately for me, none of this disturbed the tranquility of the art gallery at the back of the museum's upper floor, where seven young ladies from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama gave a 75-minute free lunchtime concert of harp music.
I haven't had enough harp music in my life. It was beyond relaxing.

I go more for the classic eighties tracks myself whenever I listen to music on either CD, TV or the web. My sister is a big fan of the Kiss music channel which is a genre of music I can't stand.

And I'm not a fan of that style of music you described, hate the way they 'sample' (that the right word?) older songs. 'Cos they can't thinka their own stuff!

Gav that Brokencyde video is THE most atrocious thing I've seen in 2009. Just when you thought metalcore couldn't get any worse.

Arrrgh! I watched it!
Right, as this is an Old Man's thread and it's St David's Day, I shall deploy the old men of Wales in retaliation, in close harmony formation.

I wholeheartedly apologise for the Brokencyde - it was Warren Ellis' fault. He shared it via his blog and I needed to pass on the pain. Andy

I've listened to Radio 1 all my life but since I've started full time employment, I've not had a chance to continue listening. We listen to Radio 1 in the morning in the car but that is only because of Chris Moyles as a presenter. In my last years of education, I would only listen to Radio 1 for Mark and Lard as presenters, the music that was played didn't interest me. For some reason now, music that is played on mainstream radio stations and TV channels doesn't interest me, the 2nd to the last thing I heard on Radio 1 that I thought I might go and purchase was a song by Anthony and the Johnsons back in 2005. The last thing I heard on Radio 1 that I thought I might purchase, like Karla, was something by Lupe Fiasco. I have become so narrow in my music interest that I just buy new releases of the artists I like and this is because there is nothing new in mainstream media outlets that is any good.
Like what Graham mentioned, I've heard about these rap artists who have there voice put through music software to make it seem that they are singing in perfect pitch, I just think to myself if you can't sing, leave singing to people who can really sing.

The only 'radio' I really listen to is the Podcast version of Adam and Joe's 6 Music show. I can recommend it - it's ridiculous.

In my experience, what gets played on daytime radio has about as much in common with the cutting edge of modern music as McDonalds has to real food. What Radio 1 peddles is predominantly toothless, neutered urban-lite 'product' targeted at aspirational middle-class white boys in souped-up Fiestas.
But it's still better than the majority of commercial radio. Don't get me started on that...

Bastards. It's getting to the stage where I'm gonna hve to get a new computer just to put my musics on it and listen to good stuff non-stop.
And good on ya, boyos of the valley!

Although it is incredibly catchy (you will be singing this), this video sums up the current music pretty well. Just imagine driving past the chaved-up bling generation blasting this from the stereo:
NOT WORK SAFE!
