Absolutely shedloads of different varieties of knock-offs have turned up in Poundland, the highlight being the robots that look like they are humping dinosaurs.

Not sure if I've asked this before, thought I had but couldn't find the post- see those knock-off Mirage toys that are doing th erounds? The clear/red/etc ones in the G1-accurate boxes? What's the quality of those like?

Post by Jaymz on Nov 13, 2008 1:55:07 GMT
The Mirage is good quality, better than the original in some ways [waist]. Just be aware that the toy doesn't have to pass any kind of safety standards as it's a KO, so don't put it in your mouth!

Poundland continues to surprise - I popped in when finishing my christmas shopping and noticed a non-transforming (possibly oversized) Movie Optimus Prime and a sports car that, on the basis of the car mode and packaging appears to be a knock-off of Powermaster Getaway (without engine component).

Yeah, I saw both of those today! Gotta love Poundland for knock-off crazyness.

I bought both and will chuck up some pics later
The Prime doesn't transform, he's barely recognisable as it is!

The Getaway is truly horrific. He smells funny, is really floppy (REALLY), he keeps the powermaster lock gimmick but doesn't have an engine, and his head is on a really poor spring

I'm planning to go into town on Thursday for a few items. I'll pick one up for you. Sorry Phil, I didn't manage to buy one. I visited the Poundland in Hanley on Thursday, but was turned away by a staff member because there weren't "sufficient number of people in the store". I guess that the expense of keeping the store open - staff, heating, lighting - was higher than the expected revenue for new year's day. I won't be going back to Hanley for a while, but will keep an eye out for Getaway in other stores. In other news, I spotted KOs of Cybertron Red Alert, Hot Shot and DownShift being sold under the 'Gear Force' label, as well a KO (Power Ranger?) lion combiner robot in a shop called Mr Big Deals - the same place I bought the KO Alternator Grimlock last year. The build quality looked quite good, but I could not stomach the bright yellow colour scheme and decided to save some money.

Woah there Ducky! I must point out that I saw them in Mr Big Deals - a shop that specialises in providing the residents of Stoke with Toothpaste, cleaning products, gnomes and other useless household objects. The packaging invariably contains several alarmingly large labels featuring text written in Urdu, Hindi and Arabic.

What the hell were you doing in Tunstall?
I've been to Mr Big Deals... a scary, hazardous place!

I was staying with family over Christmas. I actually went to school in Tunstall, though I haven't been back in a long time. I always think of it as the semi-derelict town of my youth with only charity shops and a few pubs, though the appearance of Asda, Matalan and various other stores have reinvigorated it in recent years.

Got the Getaway today. V V V poor, flimsy rubbery plastic.
Also got the Multiforce combiner.
They had some Movie KOs: Barricade in yellow and a Prime one.
