KARL: "You expect me to chose Shockprowl?"
SHOCKPROWL: "No Mr Thurgood. I expect you to vote."
Difficult to narrow it down to a single favourite to be honest. They jockey about for the slot depending on what mood I am in at the time I am asked. A large proportion of the time I would say that my favourite is ( for reasons I do not fully understand) "On Her Majesty's Secret Service", but I am rather partial to "You only Live Twice" on account of it having a fantastic action set-piece (volcano assault is a genuine classic), a nice espionagey feel to it in places and - last but not least - it has the rather charming Mei Hama. But then Thunderball has a cracking plot (once it actually gets itself going that is), a really good villian and, of course, Luciana Palazza...
Why have a single favourite Bond film when the franchise can be like Q Branch, and give you something to suit whatever situation/mood you happen to be in?
KARL(straightening tie): "I appear to have spoiled my ballot"

Karl, you are so 'The Man'! If it comes to that maybe you should have also included the original mind-numbing Casino Royale film starring Peter Sellers and David Niven. OH DEAR GOD NO!!! You Only Live Twice is a great film, they're all pretty darn good films, so yes, very difficult to choose. I'd actually put Casino Royale right up there you know. Craig is brilliant as the young, raw Bond. And the action is fantastic. I also really enjoyed the last three with Brosnan, esp Die Another Day. Although the theme for that was awefull, not like Cornell's wonderfull You Know My Name (been singing it all week!)

Can't stand Die Another Day. Whether its James Bond walking into the hotel at the begining looking like a tramp and asking for his usual room, the totally impossible invisible car, Madonna doing some fencing or the scene at the end where a helicopter is falling out of the sky and Bond gets the rotors up to full speed about two seconds before he hits the ground the film just doesn't do anything for me.

I'm glad I'm not the only one on the Hub who likes Die Another Day, and for all the things Zudobug listed as things he didn't like (excluding Madonna). Most of all for Bond walking into the hotel looking like a tramp and asking for his usual room. That scene alone ensured my rating it more highly than the (recent) Casino Royale, which totally lacked the necessary element of fun.
Halle Berry was annoying, but Rosamund Pike more than made up for it.

Yeah, I was just glued cosa the whole '14 months later' bit. A different, and thrilling, way to start a Bond film. Loved the duel as well. I have to say though, I welcomed the lack of 'humour' in Casino Royale. I feel it fitted the raw, new Bond well- he hasn't had chance to develop his 'One Liners' yet!

I'm in the middle of a James Bond fever! I'm lovin' 'em!!!! I think my recent obsession with Casino Royale has caused me to dive head-long in my borther-in-law's Video collection! So far...
The Spy Who Loved Me - yeah, decent, didn't totally blow me a away, but enjoyed it greatly.
Dr. No - The music! The music! Think I mentioned this in another thread, you must watch it to listen to the music! This one seems dated somehow, more than the others. But is still a darn good watch!
You Only Live Twice - Holy brazilnuts, this film is AAAWWWWSOOMMME!!!!!! May replace Goldfinger as number 1! Totally cool from start to finish. Love the bit where he's being chased across a factory roof and it's being filmed from a helicopter (one presumes).
Really enjoying seeing these again. Got the theme tunes going 'round in my head (much to my colleague and Mrs Shockprowl's dismay. Tryin to get Piglet to sing along though!)

I've got every film on DVD except Casino Royle, I've got almost every single one of the OST's on CD and I have every single novel that Ian Fleming wrote - I haven't just got James Bond fever I've got a James Bond obsession.
I've now got halfway through the Dr. No novel and discovered why Honey Rider wears a flesh coloured bikini when she comes out of the water in the film. In the book she emerges from the sea totally naked and Bond - being the pervert that he is just watches her! In order to make the film watchable for the whole family they substituated her birthday suit for a more decent item of clothing without straying too far away from the novel.

I have developed a huge affection for this film, and no - it isn't only because the lovely Mie Hama is in it. It is a nice blend of the later "Bond Madness" - where Bond is only superior to everyone else because he has better magical items than them - and the Bond who prospers because he is capable and determined. I have a lot of time for a Bond who seems like he is capable in what he does without being entirely reliant on magic cars and the like. Hence why I am probably one of the few folk who actually think Timothy Dalton made a good Bond, sabotaged with being trapped in sub-par films. Karl

Yeah, a fine actor who had the potential to be brilliant in the role, but hampered by thin scripts and lacklustre direction. A shame. He could have been a great Bond.

I share your opinion of the Daltonator. Great presence and delivered a slightly more intense and dare I say it nasty Bond compared to the smooth and non-threatening (though enjoyable) Roger Moore.

I also think that Dalton was a better Bond - much better in my opinion than his successor Brosnan. I read once that because Dalton was principally a stage actor he played Bond in the same way he was portrayed in the books and, now that I've read some of the books I happen to agree with this comment.

At the weekend I managed to pick up the last card I needed in the recent 007 Spy Cards trading card collection. Now I have all 275 cards and am now waiting for a second series to come out which I believe will come.

The Fever continues. Bloody Hell, Goldfinger is just so absolutely freakin' brilliant! It and You Only Live Twice I can watch over and over again!
Diamonds Are Forever, ok, watchable, but not in the same league as the two prev mentioned.
For Eyes Only was pretty good. Enjoyed that. But it's The Man With the Golden Gun which is my fave Moore Bond film. Love it! And even though I can't stand Lu Lu, I just can't get the theme outa my head!

"No Mr Bond, I already know everything about you. I expect you to die." Auric Goldfinger, getting quite possibly one of the finest Bond-villian lines ever. I love his delivery, as if he is genuinely surprised that Bond hasn't worked out his intention. Karl

The Goldfinger line is one of the best Bond villian lines ever. Another one is the one spoken by Hugo Drax in Moonraker where he tells one of his henchmen "look after Mr Bond , see that some harm comes to him."

I love Golden Gun Scaramanga's: "He always did like that mosoleum, put him in it!"
(yeah I know I've spelt Mosuleum wrong! Tried a million different spellings and couldn't get it to look right, so I just got fed up and put down owt!)

Oooo...
I must say that Roger Moore is my all time favorite Bond. I much prefer his smooth, suave and often times lightly comical delivery of the role to the laters "gutsy" Bonds.
Albeit, Casino Royal is just pure wonderful.
I had given up on Bond when Pierce Brosnan turned him into a cross between GQ magazine and Austin Powers... so Casino Royal has gotten me back into Bond - big time.
Do need to finally get myself a James Bond DVD collection.
Used to have almost all of the movies on VHS, but ever since DVD came out I've been lack luster with buying...

My journey thorugh my brother-in-law's Bond collection continues. Up to the Timothy Dalton films. And you know what? I LOVED 'EM!!! Great little films! Yeah, not in the same league as Goldfinger or You Only Live Twice, but very enjoyable and I think Dalton is an excellant Bond. Absolutely top notch. Great mix of ruthless, comedy and characterisation. I hadn't seen these ones for many moons, so I was very pleasantly surprised. I don't mind Brosnan at all, but I now consider it a shame Dalton didn't do some more Bond films.

I thought Dalton was good casting and could have made a brilliant Bond but was hamstrung my mediocre scripts and direction. A real shame.

John Glen directed all of the Bond movies in the 80's (excluding the unofficial movie Never Say Never Again) and although I like For Your Eyes Only he didn't do a particularly good job with A View To A Kill (which, to be fair was a poor script anyway).

I don't really rate him as an action director. Very much of the 'point and shoot' variety.

John Glen wasn't really a director anyway. He spent a number of the previous Bond films filling some other production job until he was promoted to director for the five Bond films in the eighties.
