Although I believe you did have a soft spot (no pun intended) for the Japanese shark-like Zoid, Wardick?

Are 80s Zoids worth anything nowadays? I will soon get to trying to offload my box of Zoids once it is located in the attic!

It transpires that the ones Phil needs are the ones worth nothing! :v It's mostly the smaller 80s ones I have though I did have KRAARK PRINCE OF DARKNESS. No clue what condition they're in though, they are still living in my parent's loft (and they are very keen on cleaning it out! My mum got triggerhappy a while back and got rid of all my carefully preserved G1 Transformer boxes )

My initial lists are in much the same format as Phil's, with a "Best of the Best" list to follow at the weekend. That said... I've just realised that I have forgotten Blox... Something more to think on...
Small Wind-ups:
1)Molga/Slitherzoid – it is just great fun, and I love the way it moves 2) Pteras – a flying Zoid was always destined to make it in here, and I love the somewhat ungainly look of the Pteras. 3) Godos/Trooperzoid – As Phil says, little cousin to the Gojulas/Zoidzilla. A great little kit to build as well 4) Hellcat – marvelously predatory looking design, one of the few on this list I haven't owned. 5) Hellrunner – I just love the way that it looks.
Runners-up:
Hammerrock Snipemaster: Zoid with a long-gun for a tail. Yep, sold. Gurantular/ Spider Zoid – first Zoid I ever saw and has a soft spot in my heart. Zunder & Zatton/Gerunder – Two of my favourite characters from the UK Zoids comic, they were only just edged out of the list.
Medium-Sized Windups:-
1) Command Wolf – fun kit to build and looks really good when it is finished. I have owned about four of these, two of which became fodder for custom repaints. My favourite version is probably the “Irvine Custom”, mostly because of the amount of play it got in “Chaotic Century” 2) Shadow Fox – love the look of it. It does capture the look of a fox quite nicely, plus it is a little Zoid packing a really hefty gun, which is always fun. 3) Zear/ Bearfighter – mecha shaped like a bear, which can rear up on its hindlegs to reach up into medium-sized buildings... Great idea, and a lot of fun with the two walking postures 4) Black Rhimos – a big, chunky slab of Zoid, with fun weapons, and a fun “ramming snout” sort of motorized feature.
Runners up:-
Raynos – a sleeker, more aerodynamic update of the Pteras. Yep, I was always going to love that. Cannon Tortoise – A solid-looking design, that plods rather adorably when it is wound-up.
Small Battery-operated
1) Sabre Tiger/Zabre – love the lines on it and it has plenty of options for mounting weapons on it, and it has a great Customise Parts set that goes with it. (Although my favourite version is the Zoids2 version with the black/chrome deco) 2) Koening Wolf – Lovely “big brother” to the Command Wolf, and a great update to the “New Century Zero” aesthetic. Also has a cracking pair of CP's – you can't not love a Zoid that brings a pair of Sniper Cannons to the battlefield. 3) Lightning Saix – One of those kits that looks fast just standing still. Love the way that the cannon/battery pack feels so integrated into the design, and the rapid chattering run that it does is marvellous 4) Genosaurer – Love the colour scheme on it, and it feels like a proper successor to the early dinosaur Zoids in so many ways 5) Shield Liger – the base model looks blocky, sturdy and dependable, then you throw the DCS-J cannon system on it and it just looks even better.
Runners up:
Gustav – I've seen too much Chaotic Century not to have a great affection for this one. I also like the fact that it's trailer can be used to carry other Zoids about, that is a fun feature. Liger Zero – I like the add-on armour Customise Parts idea, it almost makes it a modular Zoid, and one of them is Panzer which just looks like an entire Zoids worth of armour and weapons strapped onto the Zero lost somewhere beneath. DiBison – a ludicrous number of guns on one Zoid. But somehow it looks charming rather than silly. Or possible because of the latter, I'm not sure. Blade Liger
Large Battery-Ops:
1) Deathsaurer – Sleek, menacing and walks with a wonderful inexorableness. Enjoyable to put together as well. 2) Madthunder – A massive Triceratops Zoid, built as an answer to the Deathsaurer according to the Japanese Battle Story and it looks the part. A fantastic sculpt too, with heavy riveting detail on it that makes it look very heftily engineered. 3) Gojulas/Zoidzilla – A Robot Gojira.... Yep, that is a winner. 4) Gojulas Giga – upating the original Gojulas with a sleeker look, and a choice of “classic dinosaur” stance and one that is more in line with current dinoasaur thinking. Great design. 5) Redhorn - One of the iconic "villian" Zoids from the UK Comic, a great stompy engine of artillery destruction in Chaotic Century, and the finest of the "Dark" series recolours from the OJR line. The sand-coloured Dinosaur Expo special version is quite nice too.
Runners-up:-
Gore/Iron Kong – Gorilla Zoid, great idea, and it is a fantastic looking kit. Narrowly pipped at the post my the Gordos however. Deathstinger – I'm not a fan of scorpions, but this Scorpion Zoid is an exception – great design work, and it integrates with a cable remote so you can march it forward and backward across the floor. Great fun. Gordos/Gorgon – I loved Stegosauri as a kid, so Gorgon really caught my attention. And owning the NJR Cannoneer Gordos version has really sold me on the design. It is a simple kit for its size, but it has real character to it.

Right here we go. 5 Gordos/Gorgon zoids.wikia.com/wiki/GordosIt really wings me up that a load of the first large Zoids all share the same body and a large ammount of parts: Zoidzilla/Gojulas, Mammoth, Gorgon & Kraark/Salamander are ALL a Giant Zrk body with skeletral limbs. But through this I somehow loved the Gorgon. Of course I never owned one. But it was one of the first UK Zoids I bought from the most recent release intent on attaching the Gojulas cannons to it..... I can rememember being very annoyed they didn't fit which led to the quest that has resulted in me owning the superb Canoneer Gordos which contains the entire original Republic Customise set. 4 Gojulas Giga zoids.wikia.com/wiki/Gojulas_GigaOne of the main dinosaur changes between the original Zoids line and the new one is the acceptance that T-Rex's moved with horizontal bodies. But we like our T-Rex's upright - G1 Grimlock, Tripticon, Godzilla, Gojulas/Zoidzilla. Gojulas Giga does both. Now I like variable geometry Zoids anyway but throw some electronics in too and .... Yes the fins don't stay on. And yes mine siezes up now after four steps and sheds it's limbs. But I still love it. 3 Iron Kong/Gore zoids.wikia.com/wiki/Iron_KongSo if the Republic (Blue) Zoids have Godzilla then Empire (Red) need King Kong (Iron Kong) to face him.... Except it didn't work out like that here. Cos Kong got recoloured, renamed, lost his missile launcher and swapped sides. I Can remember seeing a Japanese Zoids catalogue in the 90s and being stunned that the Monkey was coloured red and sat on the other side. As I said yesterday I've got the US Iron Kong. Which means a bucket load of extra weapons. Plus he's also got a big jetpack on his back. 2 Death Saurer zoids.wikia.com/wiki/Death_SaurerA foot and a half plus of sleekly armoured black and red Dinosaur badness. Just fabulous. and you can key him out with CP goodness. And the spinning fan on the back will power a Gatling. Just superb. I'd like to see this fight Fortress Maximus..... But even that isn't the ultimate bix zoid winner. Oh no... 1 Mad Thunder zoids.wikia.com/wiki/MadthunderA Zoids Triceratops. With two massive spinning horns. See those cannons on his back? Those are the shield liger's add on cannons. This is seriously big. 2 1/2.... maybe even 3 foot long horn tip to tail tip. And room to add lots of add on weapons. Once you get into Zoids you'll eventually have to confront needing this and the Deathsaurer. Both huge. Both expensive. Both Wonderful.

OMG ZOID OVERLOAD!!!!
THOSE TOYS ARE FREAKIN' AWESOME!!!!
"7 years, Mrs Shockprowl, not a bad run... But I fear I needs to spend lots of money in Zoids."
".... It's that 'Big Phil' person again, isn't it?"
"Yes it's all his fault! He's to blame! I'm an innocent in all this!"
"Grrrrr"

Right, none of these are going to make the "Champions of Champions" list, but the Blox are feeling left oit:-
1) Jet Falcon - An aerial fighter/bird Zoid, one of the most definitely bird-like designs amongst all the flying reptiles. 2) Buster Eagle - the other distinctly birdlike design, with the added bonus of coming with a pair of chunky artillery pieces for Gojulas Giga (Who should not be left to prosper by foot-stomping and teeth alone) 3: Dispelow - AS Phil observed, Blox DiBison-redux. 4) Boldguard - a great looking Zoid, with the spine-fringe on the body and a snapping-turtleish head. The Quad cannon are great fun and make fantastic accessories for other Zoids. 5)Scissor Storm/ Laser Storm - basically a set of beetlely parts that transport a massive Gatling cannon around. Not so much cop on their own, but in the secondary role of Blox as self-transporting Customize Parts they are fantastic fun.

1 Mad Thunder zoids.wikia.com/wiki/Madthunder Once you get into Zoids you'll eventually have to confront needing this and the Deathsaurer. Both huge. Both expensive. Both Wonderful. Yep, it is pretty much an inevitablity that once you start down the Zoid collecting path you will end up coveting both of these. I own a Deathsaurer - it looms over part of my Transformers collection - but I have yet to own the wonder that is Madthunder. On that note, I guess it is time for my "Champions of Champions" list:- So, my Top Five All-Stars Zoids line-up:- 1) Command Wolf - my favourite of the wind-ups, narrowly beating out the Shadow Fox. Has a great dog-like look to it, and is one of those Zoids that can bear any colour scheme you throw at it really. 2) Sabre Tiger - my favourite of all the Cat Zoids, sleek design aesthetics, a good range of compatibility with optional weapons, and a great prowling walk-cycle when you kick the motor into gear 3) Redhorn/Darkhorn - solid, chunky and looks and moves like it is terrifyingly well armed and armoured. There is a reason that Zoids media has a tendency to offer the Redhorn chassis due respect. 4) Deathsaurer - The "800ton daikaiju" of the Zoids world. A huge kit, with a wonderfully sleek and powerful look to it. Also has a great inexorable, unhurried, walk cycle to it. 5) Madthunder - The Republic needed to kill a doomsday weapon, so they built a Zoid that was meant to take a licking and throw back a shattering retaliation... Fantastica detailing on this kit, has an impressive presence just sitting still on a shelf, and on the Battle Story's version of Planet Zi surely must be the picture next to the dictionary entry for "enormous". Gobots!
Never had much to do with Gobots. I liked the small figures though, had a couple. I'll remind myself.
Transformers and Gobots were like the VHS and Betamax of converting toys!
Only one could achieve dominance!

Once again I am going to have to admit to not having enough information to make an informed vote here. I've only seen a few Go-Bots or Machine Robo releases in person. (Didn't have any as a kid due to already being comitted to other toy lines).
That said, I do have a soft spot for the Power Suits for some reason.
