What?? Didn't she start it??? Not really, it was clearly a pre-arranged manouver by the PLP. It was just that she was the stalking horse put out in front, as to who started it I don't think we'll ever know. (Although, by being hard-left Corbyn's politics made it inevitable that the more centre-left parliamentary party was going to revolt against him - so you could make the arguement for no-one "started it", it predates pretty much all of them being in post and goes back to the period before Tony Blair became leader). Meanwhile, Welsh Labour continues to govern Wales, and the Assembly Members sensibly remain aloof from the shenanigans going on in the UK party. In this Labour-voting country I have yet to meet anyone who thinks Corbyn has what it takes, and he was kept away as much as possible during the recent Assembly election campaign, as more a liability than an asset - just as Tony Blair would be.
Don't know much about Owen Smith, but it would be good to have a Welsh leader of the UK party. If he's somewhere mid-way on the political spectrum between Blair and Corbyn, he may be the UK party's best chance to avoid a split.
Dunno what moderate Welsh Labour would do if the UK party polarised and split.

I see May has confirmed Article 50's magic button won't be pushed this year. Will it ever at this rate? Folk have already lost their jobs with what has happened to the economy due to the immediate effects of 'Brexit'. If Article 50 isn't pushed in any hurry then what was the ******* point of it all? What was it for??? Ech, if only 'Remain' had won, we could all have been spared this pissing match.
WE SHALL LEAVE THE EU! WE SHALL 'TAKE OUR COUNTRY BACK'! EVENTUALLY. AT SOME FUTURE POINT. YOU WAIT AND SEE. WE WILL! SOMETIME. ER.

I see May has confirmed Article 50's magic button won't be pushed this year. Makes sense. Triggering article 50 starts the clock following which we get kicked out after two years, and it will be a real challenge to negotiate the terms of exit / new relationship in two years. It would be silly for the UK to start that process before they've recruited diplomats, negotiators and lawyers and developed and consulted on a negotiating position between Whitehall and the devolved administrations. Get into the starting blocks before firing the starting pistol. Martin

What gets me is not the BoE bringing the interest rates down to 0.25% - although as someone who doesn't "do" debt and has a savings orientation this annoys me. What gets me is that they are starting to talk about negative interest rates - where they would literally be paying banks to borrow money from them to lend to other people. Given that the last economic CFG was caused by institutional over-extension in terms of debt...how sane is it to encourage the same institutions to go back to the table to do more gambling...?

Labour have won their right to bloke over 130,000 of their members from voting on who leads them. Any lingering interest I had in them as a political force utterly gone. The economy goes in the toilet after the racists win at Brexit and THIS is what they spend their time and money on? Arseholes the lot of them. -Ralph

I'd say the likelihood is that now we will end up with the Labour party breaking in two, or mass defections to the Tories/Lib-Dems.

Personally I think the MPs that the voters elected at the general election should decide who their leader in Parliament is. Their job is to be the MPs they intended to be at the time of the 2015 election, on behalf of all the people who voted them in and their other constituents, until the next election - which may sadly mean giving up the Labour whip, the way things are going. The new party membership - some of whom may not even have voted Labour in 2015 - should not try to control them. If they want to deselect them at the next election, that's up to the party, and the voters can decide again at that time from the choices they are presented with on the ballot paper.
MPs serve the people who elected them, not their party members.
I've got nothing against Jeremy Corbyn (except that he won't go voluntarily), I even agree with him on nuclear weapons, but I want him out because I want the Tories out, and Labour can't deliver that with him as figurehead. Owen Smith might or might not, at least it's a possibility with him. But I'm not going to join a party in order to oust its current leader, when I believe the thing that should determine the leadership is the approval of the leader by the elected MPs.

One had a letter which stated he was being removed due to anti-Labour tweets in the run up to the last general election. It's a farce. British politics is a farce. There's literally nobody left to vote for because once Corbyn inevitably wins, Labour will split and become even more unelectable than it currently is.

So corbyn wins and the most stupid waste of Labours time comes to an end. At least until the next pointless challenge.
One point that I keep reading in relation to this is that Britain has not elected a left wing government for 40 years therefore Corbyn and Labour can't win so he should be replaced. Fair enough, but it got me thinking, as Labour have actively campaigned as a centre/centre left party since the mid 90s the last time people actually had a left wing option was nearly 25 years ago.
So anyone under 40ish has never had the option at all. The more I think about this the more bizarre it becomes especially when we also keep being told the younger generation are supposed to be more liberal and don't vote in as large numbers as older generations. It's almost like those things could be connected.

It's absolutely unbelievable how they've totally squandered their best chance in forever (the Tory government's implosion over Brexit) and turned 100% of their efforts into petty infighting. Like, my god, seriously?

I know even if they really really really feel he has/had to go could they not have just done their jobs of challenging the government for a few weeks first?
Still I feel there is still room for Tory implosion, not that I have any confidence in Labour being able/willing to target anyone but themselves.

It should have either been a swift coup within a day or waaaay down the line at the next party conference. Not this dragged out mess.
Really that weekend we seemed to be without any sort of government with all the Tories hiding was perfect for Labour, but they clearly decided they wanted to prove themselves unfit as an opposition

Yeah, the whole thing has been an absolute farce from start to finish.
The big elephant in the room is Brexit. It's clear that Theresa May and several of the Tories have no real desire to trigger article 50, but do they decide not to and avoid losing ground to UKIP as well as a civil war within their own ranks from those who wanted Brexit.
Labour under Corbyn are about as electable as they were under Kinnock - not in the least.
Suffice it to say, I do not think the History books will be kind to any of the leaders of the political parties in recent years, with maybe one or two exceptions.

By all means there should be a left-wing option for voters who want to vote that way in elections, but it's a gift to the Tories to change the mainstream opposition party into that option when such voters are currently a minority in the country.
I'll stick with Labour in Welsh elections but will be returning to the Lib Dems in UK elections as long as Corbyn is around. I do not like Her Majesty's Opposition being directed by party members rather than by the MPs elected by the public in the general election.
