That caption from the Star Force version of Whirl is pure gold. If the Lost Light had a holosuite...

Way back in the eighties I remember my mum buying me a knock off gears minibot transformer from poundstretchers in Whitley Bay. I remember seeing them on the shelves and I think they only had gears but I can't recall the packaging, whether it was a diaclone or just a random ko. Anyone know what they were? I've searched online but my memory is not too good.

Thanks for that. I didn't realise diaclone was sold in the UK, especially in discount stores like poundstretchers.

It appears as if some left over stock made it into the country as "grey imports". IIRC I got mine in late 1986.
I don't think there's any clear memory of anything other than Minibots appearing here but I could be wrong.....
It's a little bit confusing as the Joustra Diaclone is different to the Takara Diaclone and, like Transformers, includes some Microchange toys like the tapes and Browning.
As I said upthread I have a memory of seeing a Joustra Diaclone Minibot cardback with the Takara Diaclone Change Attacker and Microchange Cassette Machines on buit I've not seen a picture of that anywhere yet. (it might be the shop I got the minibots from had these but I ignored them, stupid me)

Transformerland have recently put up high res scans and translations of 1984 and 1982 Diaclone catalogues. Some lovely art in them. This was mentioned on RFC this week, drawing attention to the Dinobots on page 11/12 of the 84 one, which are quite different to the finished versions.

There's some awesome art there! Now that's my idea of a shattered glass storyline. Excellent stuff.

I was going to post a link to the Diaclone comic in the TF comic section for folk who may not have seen the link in Toys but it now shows as '404 Not Found'. -Ralph

Hmm. The whole 'more' section of the main site menu has been removed. I did download the pages and packed them into a cbz to read offline, so they're around if anyone didn't grab them.

Following Shockprowl's revelation earlier in the dayClampdown eh? Never heard of him 'till today, but yeah, nice repaint. I thought we'd have a look at the Diaclone toys that didn't make it into the 1984/5 Transformers line. Where the toy has subsequently made an appearance in the Transformers toyline I've tried to include a link to their first appearance

I still feel I do not know enough about the handover between the older ranges and the Transformers. I was wondering only yesterday while I was having a fiddle with Kup - were the movie toys really the first Hasbro original designs? I read that of the 86 figures the Special Teams! were unused Diaclone designs - but what about the triple changers? were they Diaclone too? and Wheelie is an oddity - he's the only '86 minibot who isn't a repaint of an older one? was he Hasbro? similarly, the Battlechargers and the Predacons. I think I've asked this before but I can't remember if there was an answer.
I can't find a site that lists releases that long ago as actual waves as opposed to years; I've always been interested to know where Diaclone and associated figures ended and Hasbro started.
