.....If you go by the comic, rodimus is about as important as random random "buy this toy" guy. Sorry I don't agree with this, CJ, even though I wasn't a huge fan of the character, I remember Rodimus as quite an important character in the comics, UK Marvel at least.

I don't like the badass warrior thing, either, I think it speaks to some aspects of modern popular culture's obsession with and excuse of (often nasty) violence. There's a better middle ground to be found between a Prime who allows himself to be killed because he allowed some video game characters to "die" and one who slices the faces off of enemies. -Jim I think this is the post of the year so far. Very profound actually. You've nailed it there, Jim.

I definitely agree there! It sickens me that this culture considers it perfectly fine to show a small child Bumblebee literally gutting Ravage, or a human character brutally killing another... But heaven help us if they saw Janet Jackson's left boob on the superbowl! That'll ruin them!

Would this make you love him? ... Oh gods yes, I'll take two. I'm sold also. Colors are an improvement. Are the Dinos in Neverland? Something has stolen their shadows . I definitely agree there! It sickens me that this culture considers it perfectly fine to show a small child Bumblebee literally gutting Ravage, or a human character brutally killing another... But heaven help us if they saw Janet Jackson's left boob on the superbowl! That'll ruin them! That's another reason why I don't consider the Bay films family friendly. The brutality level even through the veil of CG renders is on par with a Walking Dead episode. .

Not true. We had him from '86-'88. They dumped Rodimus and brought back Hotrod starting with targetmasters, so they could bring optimus back as powermaster. And if you go by the cartoon, he constantly jumped between the two. If you go by the comic, rodimus is about as important as random random "buy this toy" guy. Hotrod stayed in it from Headmasters on through G2. ( granted he was never an important character, like Blaster, Grimlock, or Shockwave, but he stuck around, unlike the other targetmasters and headmasters) We had more hotrod than Rodimus. Well, yes, that's true, my point was more that he wasn't really the from-the-off POV guy like Bumblebee / Cheetor / Hotshot. He was like the POV guy for the movie then got fairly fundamentally changed - even though he ultimately went back to being Hot Rod it's hard to then say "oh yeah, he's the brash youngster who might have some kind of potential!" after all that happened to him. -Jim

By the end of the first film, I'd accepted that Bumblebee was more 'grown-up' than his G1 character. He was still playful but had now come of age. Then we had one of the weightiest lines of dialogue in the whole film: "I wish to stay with the boy." I was overjoyed. The annoying gimmick of dumbness had been laid to rest and Bumblebee had become a noble young warrior.
Then in the first ten minutes of film 2, he was dumb again and having a tantrum which included crying. I have never felt such immediate and utter disappointment at such an early point in a film. It didn't get better...

Suspiciously back on topic! I shall not.
Unless there are some decent looking Cyberverse Dinobots and a Deluxe Leadfoot I suspect I won't have a hard time staying away from this toyline.

There's no TF 4 Cyberverse. It's been replaced by the 1-step changers

Henceforth known as thunder-thighs Grimlock? He's got some weight on those hips. Simplicity of transformation also seems to mean an end to posability. Backwards step, but then I'm not the target market.

I have to say these do look better than the toys from the previous films, but I'm not ready to cave yet.
Well maybe just Slug. He is Slag after all, and he does indeed look pretty good.

Scorn is friggin AMAZING!!! Drooling over it!
The best dinosaur since BW10th Megatron! Might even be equal to or exceeds it, but won't make that judgement until I have it.
Slug leaves me feeling cold. Don't like the dino head shoulder pad kibble, and I hate those tusks on it's lower jaw. If they made more anatomical sense, like grimlock's horns, I'd not mind them. IE if their placement was further back and on the skull, located where they would be on a Penticeratops.

The others are a bit too busy for my liking, but I really like Scorn.
I feel they made a bit of a marketing blunder pushing the 'we're going to make them ALL LIKE BATH TOYS NOW' thing a bit too hard (and, it seems, falsely)

Can't decide if I'd rather they had a uniform colour scheme like the originals. Maybe they'd all merge together too much.

I'm starting to sense a deliberate convergence here, I think. Is it coincidence that this year's BotCon theme is Pirates vs Knights and these Dinobots seem to have certain knightly features i.e. layered plate armour, medieval styling and visors on their faces, medieval melee weapons? I can imagine someone high up (not god, but close) saying, "There's a strong knight theme in TF4. Let's try and use that for our BotCon exclusives." I wonder if there will be any pirateness in the TF4 Decepticons... EDIT: I've gone away and now realise that the above speculation is glaringly obvious and that I am just a bit slow on the uptake. The 3rd protagonist in the film is Lockdown... and he has a hook for a hand. Knights vs Pirates? Dinobots vs Space Mercenaries. Please someone tell me they didn't clock this either.

Please someone tell me they didn't clock this either. Certainly passed over my head! But Grimlock's robot mode looks more samurai? I guess we shall see!

I don't think so. In the past pete has said that hasbro doesnt give them heads up to what hasbro plans. Otherwise we wouldn't see a botcon Scourge, then a year later hasbro spits one out (and other similar examples). But then Pete also lies.
That said, assuming pete wasn't lying, the botcon theme would have been in development well before the loose knight/dragon theme of the TF4 dinobots became evident.

I just want to say I love the upcoming AOE Prime G1 inspired toy (truck) and am happy it's not ginormous. I will get it for sure. As for the Dinobots, I wish they weren't so darned monster like...

A G1-coloured version of the AoE toys from Takara? Well colour *me* surprised! (See what I did there? No, it wasn't very good, was it?)
Actually don't do that, because it won't be LG-accurate - I am, in fact, not at all surprised. But it's not a bad thing, though - those colours work quite nicely.
I'm just wondering what Takara will do with Evasion Prime - he's already G1-coloured. I guess they'll have to go straight to the eHobby black version. Or maybe do a Beast Wars-inspired paint scheme...
