I'm just thinking now that the AoE line has pretty much ended, what about a post mortem? what did anyone find to like in it? The movie toys are what almost killed my Transformer collecting completely; I really thought when Animated finished that I was closing the book, so I'm surprised that I've found a few toys to like in this line. Basically the Dinobots, because I think the movie aesthetic works for them. There's a touch of Zoids about the dinosaur modes which is nice. Also the heads - the knights angle - that I liked a lot. So when it comes to movie toys I've managed the set of seven retail dinos, plus the SDCC repaints. I'm just waiting on Amazon to get the G1 Slog out and I'm done. I'm just a sucker for completable sets.
I was going to go for the platinum dino set because the finish on them is lovely, but I don't think I need a third set of these, and the killer is there are two missing. Besides, too much else is demanding the cash.
The only other figure that struck me as being a worthwhile purchase (especially in the TRU sale recently) is the Bumblebee that is in the Evolutions pack, the modern car one. The robot mode holds up well, and I do think of all the million movie Bumblebees there have been that it has the best head sculpt. It's very finely detailed for something so small. I think that figure was markedly different to the other cars, which were terribly disappointing.

I've still to open the few I have. Evo Evasion Prime, Slog and Evo Dinobots.
I bought more Energon toys at retail than that, hell I bought more Cybertron at retail (after Energon had all but killed my interest in Hasbro lines).
Firstly the TRU exclusve thing was a killer, I wasn't exactly avoiding TRU, though the temptation of Platinum Prime was best avoided, it's just not a place I can randomly find myself at so I didn't see the real AOE Transformers till, I don't know late summer maybe.
Secondly the tendency of Hasbro to release premium paint jobs of their figures meant waiting as I didn't want to double dip (normally its okay as I'd wait for a sale at Tesco, Asda, Argos or Smyths, but paying full price for both versions, no).
Then its taken so bloody long for most of those premium sets to surface that I've largely lost interest.
Evo Grimlock I wanted for Energon Grimlock, Evo Strafe I only wanted (and I am not kidding) because of them accidentally putting Technobot Strafes box art on it. I bought Slug or whoever because I was buying Strafe and it too was cheap.
Evasion Prime is the only toy I have bought because I wanted the toy.
The really annoying part of it is that I really like the look of the new characters in the film and if the toy line had done a better job of matching the on screen appearance I would have loved to buy most of the line.

As ever I checked out for the main Movie Line. None of the kiddie stuff on general distribution here interested me, though we've ended up with a one step changer and power attacker in the house.
The stars of the show for me were the 2 packs that ASDA/Wal*Mart got and TRUs Now & Then Packs

Anyone else looking at this Lost Age Black Knight Prime thinking, hey, that's not bad... Is that Leader mould any good?

I never saw anything that wasn't a one-step changer.

I think that specific mould, (being the second smaller leader release, not the huge first edition one with the house on his back) was only available here at Argos. That colouring is great. The Black Knight releases from those movie moulds make them look really good.

Aye, that does look good. But I still also really like Armour Knight version of that mold, too. Which I have. Which is nice.
