Is the Evasion Mode Prime in that pack the same as the one sold on his own?

Yes it is, and it kind of irritates me. That release fixes some of my complaints on the color choices made on the single release, such as the paint waisted to make his feet blue when they should have been left silver to break up the monotony. And the need to have more color on his chest.

This is the first in a new line of paint-your-own Transformers is it? How can they possibly think that is worth putting on sale compared to the one already out?

Hmm. Not sure I'd call that a "Silver Knight". Possibly a "Light Grey Knight". Not terribly taken by that.
So far the only Movie toy that has really caught my attention is the Evolution Prime set - mostly because the Evasion Mode Prime looks like a decent toy, and the set has the Classics Prime in it which I have not yet owned.

I'm quite liking the look of that two-pack. Although I do prefer the original "The Transformers" colour-map on the Evasion Prime the fact that the one in the Evolutions set is packaged with the Classics Prime which I currently don't have makes it quite appealing.

Oh thats going to annoy me, I quite like the mould but the set I'd want is the one with classic Prime which is easily the worst looking of the 3. The other two aren't perfect either, the Evasion ones probably my fav, a bit dull, but mostly has the right colours in mostly the right places.
If I wound up with all three I bet I could piece together a really nice version.

They all look okay, but because of the alt mode being G1 I seem to want a G1 coloured robot mode too.

Something that bothers me about this whole range is the way the different sublines aren't differentiated in the packaging. I was surveying the shelves in Sainsbury's this evening thinking, there's nothing on any of these cards that I can see easily that tells me which figures are supposed to go together. The Generations ones at least have that written on the side of the pack, but I was looking at a Strafe tonight and had no idea if it was a flip changer, a bash battler or whatever those are called or a stomp and munch or what. I just knew looking at it that it was too simple for my tastes so it wasn't the Generations. Wrong shop anyway. But how do kids know what's what, or parents, or do they not care? This range all seems very muddy to me, there are so many different Grimlocks for example, and when you add to that the various store exclusives it gets worse.
(so what is that Strafe? Are those ones supposed to be simple deluxes? The Hound behind it looked like a plastic box with arms)

I was just bitching about this to a friend tonight. This has been apparently Hasbros worst launch of a TF line. I WONDER WHY???
They shot themselves in the foot with this one. Not only dod they go overboard with the garbage lines, but it's almost impossible to tell them apart from the traditional mainline.

Pinwig: The Strafe you saw will be the Power Battler/Transformers Attackers version www.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/product.aspx?product=HAS23759&mode=retailwww.bigbadtoystore.com/bbts/product.aspx?product=HAS23760&mode=retailas for the launch of the film toys performing badly..... Well the economic situation has to be taken into account. And that the film itself isn't out yet. Obviously the UK has a rather unique situation where the traditional toyline has gone to TRU as an exclusive and on the kiddie stuff is on general release which is probably hurting the line's performance. The not being able to tell which line is which is probably intentional so that when a child says I want scorn they get the first one the parents find.....

The problem is glaringly obvious to everyone outside the industry that produces them, it seems. The only line that can overcome "figure fatigue" is Star Wars- usually because they've got such a huge cast and almost no kids have all the figures they want at any given time.

I think SW is in trouble at the moment too: they're experimenting with simpler figures and what's out there doesn't seem to be shifting that well.
Thing with TF4 is there is a large influx of new characters for this movie, far more than the others which should generate lots of new toys.
Of course the toys are being aimed at kids whereas the film is being aimed above them

"What? You mean little Johnny doesn't want a twenty-ninth version of cute and cuddly Pyschobee? I don't understand. We've had focus groups and everything!"
(Not that I really have a leg to stand on. As well as the arthritis, I also have sixty-nine Optimus Primes. But at least I have some awareness that I'm "special", and not the average toy purchaser.)

Oddly I think there is a benefit from keeping main characters in circulation as they'll always be new comers that want a Prime or a BB. Maybe just a little less of them. Alter the sales strategy so they're one per case in every case.
SW has this problem more than Transformers: New fans will always want a Vader, Luke, Han, Chewbacca, R2D2, C3P0, Anakin, Obi Wan, Clones and Stormtroopers. Hence the old SW Legends line up. Whereas fans want obscure alien 3rd from the left which in all honesty ain't gonna shift by the bucketload.
But Dinosaur TFs? Should be an easy sell.

No thread for this but it is about TF4 toys - that in the US toy sales are down 50% but mainly due to less toy displays in the shops. But what are the sales like in the UK with toy only available in certain shops?

Another issue is THERE ARE NO VILLAINS. Across the entire launch, there are no badguys for kids to use their new dinobots to fight with.
Figure fatigue comes in many forms. Transformers has a very special form, that goes beyond just keeping an important character in circulation.
It comes down to that hasbro will so overproduce one character that he will clog shelves for months, if not a year, preventing newer waves from ever showing up. And then when that finally gets cleared out, its time for another glut of that character. Then when a movie launches, a handful of characters (usually just op and bee) get a metric ton of merchandise across all ranges, and all sublines, all of which sitting on the shelf together. So all you see is a sea of optimus and bumblebee.
And in a line dedicated to change, we have basically been stuck with the same Optimus, and the same Bumblebee, for seven years. Movie 1, RotF, DotM, and TFP all use the exact same designs, only with very mild artistic differences. I think all these are quite different than keeping Luke Skywalker on the shelves. (Which I think people are also fatigued with, as well)

All the walmarts ive been to (which is four since they came out) all have Transformers hidden away at the very back of the action figure isle. Where as with DotM (which also had a sucky performance) got the best spot, at the very front of the isle.

tru have got Generations toy making up most of the display so you have them for the Dinos to smash if you get bored with Bumblebee with no strips or Bumblebee with one black strip or Bumblebee with 2 black strips or Bumblebee with strips but non on his roof or Bum ... Bumblebee with left toe that moves forwards & backwards ... Bumblebee with beer drinking action because you must be drunk after seeing 1000 Bumblebee toys that all look the same.
& not forgetting Bumblebee with Kung-fu grip action
