Rereading some late 190s early 200s X-Men, and have slotted the trip to Asgard into it's correct place between UXM 199 and 200, Never spotted the significance of the couple who Storm passes on the Greek island before at the start of the New Mutants Special Edition! 200s.... Blimey the wheels come off during the 200s, never really noticed how badly before. All's fine through to the end of 201. 202 and 203 are the Secret Wars issues which result in the X-Men landing up in San Fransisco - did Claremont mean to leave Nightcrawler behind and then write 204 to cover it? Having checked Secret Wars 8 & 9 he's missing there so I'd say yes that was the plan. But even so 204 seems a little out of place. 205 is the issue that seems *REALLY* wrong - What's Wolverine doing back in New York? The move seems intentional - he's absent from the San Fransisco set 206. But why's he there? That then gets me looking at his other appearances around that time ... Alpha Flight 33 & 34 are the same month as UXM 204 & 205, but the X-Men are together at the mansion in AF33 with Phoenix present, so I'm inclined to say this is pre UXM 202. Captain America Annual 8 is the same month as UXM 209 but has a fully fit Wolverine in it in New York so my guess is this is pre 205. But that still doesn't quite explain why Wolverine has come back East alone. 207 starts to pick up the pieces, but my feeling is that Claremont's run out of things to do with Rachel and wants to move her off the board.... I'm wondering if loosing Cyclops to X-Factor had seriously affected his plans for Cyclops? Or did the Pheonix power up of Rachel, and what she did in 202/3 leave him nowhere to go with her? I think we all agree that 201 is a great end for Cyclops but the Rachel/Cyclops thread is left hanging so it's obvious Claremont does intend to return to it. UXM Annual 10 then becomes a difficult fit - both Wolverine and Nightcrawler are fully fit, Colossus & Shadowcat are there, so it's pre Mutant Massacre, but Rachel's absent, so post 209. I'm inclined to say it's sometime late on in UXM 210 or between 210 & 211. The only problem with that is Longshot, introduced in Annual 10, doesn't appear again till UXM 215. X-Factor's effect is interesting... I'm thinking that maybe Claremont found himself a bit stuck and perhaps went for the Mutant Massacre and membership changes to shake things up a bit.

Well his intention was for Cyclops to only be an occasional character so yes, I'd say X-Factor kind of nobbled that. Remember he was also looking to get Alan Davis on board as artist at this point, and Alan kept declining.
But yes this is the start of the wilderness years.

My Uncanny read through bring me to Genosha in UXM 235-238. Struggled with it as a teenager but it reads much better now.
Now for the treat that is Annual 12 or "Chris Claremont was a it upset with what Roger Stern did"

I've not been that fussed with Uncanny - if it hadn't been coming out twice monthly I would have bailed before the end of the arc that set up Age of X-Man.
Hoping Hickman manages to course correct and give the X-Men a bit of energy and purpose about them. Been far too much treading water for the last few years.

I've been drifting a bit with X-Men recently so I've just read Astonishing 1-12, Jean Grey 1-11 and Phoenix Resurrection 1-5 to get back in the groove. Bit of a resurrection theme going on there. Liked that lot. Ready for the next Panini issue now, which I guess will be back to Blue and Gold.

Psylocke's original body is white Britsh and she is the sister of Brian Braddock - Captain Britain. She's in this body in her Marvel UK appearances and in her early UXM appearances:` 213 - 250. That's her bottom right on the cover of 218 www.mikesamazingworld.com/mikes/features/comic.php?comicid=50191Stuff happens between Uncanny X-Men 251 - where she makes the team step through the Siege Perilous - and UXM 256 when she turns up in Hong Kong in an Asian woman's body. At the time it was assumed the Siege Periloud had done this but X-Men 20-22 turned out she'd been body swapped with someone called Kwannon, who now had Psylocke's original body and who went on to die of the Legacy virus

Hang on. What?? Psylocke bodyswap? I thought she was Asian. -Ralph No, she was white british, from the Captain Britain comics. She had lovely psi-powers that manifested as butterflies. Then Jim Lee took over the X-books and wanted to draw her as an asian stripper with psychic knives because 90s so she got TURNED INTO AN ASIAN, and then they later retconned it into a BODYSWAP and I think that then got retconned into a BODYSWAP but then with a DNA INFUSION so she was still genetically the same and oh god I dont know. (You might ask 'if they are going to change her appearance and outfit and personality and powers, why not just make a new characters, I have NO IDEA)

Some corrections Matthew.
Chris Claremont decided on that. Jim Lee was a jobbing penciller at that stage and didn't have the clout he soon would have and that was still in 1989.

She goes through the Siege Perilous in 251. We next see her in 256, possibly briefly the previous issue. Anything that happens in between is added/embellished/retconned later by different writers. But I think you're right, Mojo and Spiral might have been involved.... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psylocke agrees

The friction was caused as the editor backed Jim's later ideas over Claremont's so he walked. Andy
