Can we now get some more variety in our optimi? We get several Optimus a year. Would it really hurt to give us a deluxe based on Hero or Gobot? Or a leader based on Star Convoy? MACHINE WARS!

There was the dragon/train one in Transformers: Go! I would also say making Optimus a combiner torso in CW added some variety to Primes too. -Ralph The train one is TFP/Aligned. A different character to G1. And CW is, like Classics and Actionmaster, still based on the iconic original I'm a bit confused then as to what you would like. Is it more variety based on the 1984 Optimus Prime mould? -Ralph

No. G1 optimus has around a dozen unique designs associated to him.
Yet almost every bloody update we get are focused almost exclusively around three of that dozen. Most of those are updates in some form of that iconic "1984" design.
I'm literally saying the opposite. ENOUGH G1 optimus updates. Give us an Armada update. Or an RiD update. I said I'd even take a "normal styled" version of a TFP or Movie design. Or if they INSIST on G1 Optimus exclusively, because the hasbro heads can't stop sucking off Geewun, then at least start giving us updates of some other G1 (g1 as in character) designs, like the Hero, Machine Wars, or Gobot design.

I wonder if it's because they expect fans to want that original design, and that if they want to see different approaches to Optimus that happens in the other ranges. Hasbro seem to view Generations as the G1 homage line, so they seem reluctant to step outside those designs. It's not just Prime, any Generations figure stays pretty close to its original form. TR is a great example - Hasbro have gone to great lengths to make all those toys as closely styled on their original versions as possible.

TR is a great example - Hasbro have gone to great lengths to make all those toys as closely styled on their original versions as possible. I would disagree with that. Generations is pan-generational, and it's only really recently that it's started to take on this "Geewun Only!!!!1!!!" mentality. I mean it's not G1 accurate to have Optimus as a headmaster, or Prowl and Skylynx be combiners. Or Grimlock and Repugnus just be heads to other bodies. Then you've got entirely new characters like the torch barers, Windblade and Chromia, and non-G1 characters like Tankor, Waspinator, and Jhiaxus. And they've used non-g1 designs, like Armada Starscream, "Armada Megatron", and Animated Blitzwing. And before that, it was a supplimental line for Aligned, focused on the games, which were not G1. None of this stopped them from linking all these to G1, either. So there's really no good excuse for not doing an Armada Optimus instead of yet another leader class '84 or PowerMaster Optimus.

Toph's post about Nautica just made me think; we were looking before for similarities between the figures in the four teams, so if Nautica and Arcee are comparable as female Deluxes, but are also IDW used characters like Metalhawk - does that suggest the Fireblast Deluxe would be someone who has come to the fore in IDW stories, in some way related to Metalhawk?
Yes I'm bored.

New chest, new face, and new lower arms and Windblade would make an excellent Darkscream and Nightglider.

New chest, and new nosecone, and Misfire makes a passable Cyclonus. Add new arms, canopy, and wings, and he'd be almost as good as U. Cyclonus.

I think several of us feel that there's an element of unfinished budiness with Titans Return, especially in terms of unfinished groups of toys. So I started out compiling a list of all the groups of toys that hadn't been done and quite quickly realised I had nearly enough toys for another toy range! This is not a list of potential TR repaints, it's toys that could have been made to complete the groups started by TR. However in several cases there are obvious TR toys that could be repainted/remoulded as the characters we need and some other toys suggest obvious repaints. I've also confined myself to insisting that the groups be completed in the same size class as they were started in So.... Titans Return AgainTitanmaster1 Hosehead All the other 88 smaller Headmasters were done as Titanmasters 2 Sludge 3 Slag 4 Snarl Clobber & Ptero need their chums 5 Snapdragon Apeface is lonely 6 Battletrap ...ditto Skyquake 7 Grotusque 8 Doublecross 1 deluxe Monsterbot and 1 Titanmaster Monsterbot in TR 9 Toraizer On a computer listing to go with Shuffler and Lione/Sawback, never came out 10 Kirk 11 Rodney 12 Loafer and if you've done the animals you need to do the humanoids Legends1 Steeljaw - repaint of Stripes 2 Eject - repaint of Rewind 3 Frenzy - repaint of Rumble/Rewing TR got bored of tapes very quickly. There's 3 here that are money left on the table repaints before we get to new toys
4 Slugfest 5 Overkill 6 Ratbat 7 Beastbox 8 Squalktalk 9 Raindance 10 Grandslam There's some suggestion that POTP is geting into combining Duocon Legends, which makes these last 4 an interesting possibility 11 Searchlight - repaint of Bumblebee 12 Freeway - repaint of Bumblebee 13 Goldbug - repaint of Bumblebee Easy money to complete the squad started with Chase. A new head, some remoulding for detail, job done 14 Rollbar - repaint of POTP Roadtrap? See Duocon comment above 15 Wideload More of a challenge as he'd need to be unique. However if you were willing to make him deluxe a psoibility exists bellow.... Deluxe1 Hosehead - remoulded as Quickmix, repainted/remoulded as Artfire 2 Nightbeat - remoulded as Siren or repainted as Minerva/Stepper 3 Siren - remoulded from Nightbeat or repainted as Go Shooter 4 Fangry - remoulded from Twinferno 5 Horribull 6 Squeezeplay Why no smaller Headmaster in TR? 7 Crosshairs - remoulded from Kup 8 Pointblack - remoulded from Hot Rod? 9 Sureshot The new weapon 1986 Autobots as Targetmasters were done, but not the new mould 1987 Targetmasters 10 Cyclonus - remoulded from Triggerhappy? We got Scourge but not Cyclonus? Only 1987 Decepticon Targetmaster not done in TR 11 Quickmix - remoulded from Hosehead 12 Landfill - repaint as Wideload? see Legends 13 Scoop - T30 Scoop with new head 14 Needlenose - remoulded from Misfire with new jet nose/wings? 15 Spinister One Dual Targetmaster done in TR as a repaint. The rest - no. 16 Grotusque - remoulded from Twinferno? 17 Repugnus Twinferno needs his chums in the same size 18 Joyride - repainted as Ranger 19 Slapdash Ditto Getaway 20 Darkwing - repainted as Hydra 21 Dreadwing - repainted as Buster I know the above two are coming in POTP. Included for completeness and to do their repaints 22 Minerva - repainted from Nightbeat 23 Go Shooter - repainted from Siren 24 Stepper - repainted from Nightbeat 25 Artfire - repainted/remoulded from Hosehead 26 Buster - repainted from Dreadwing 27 Hydra - repainted from Darkwing 1980s Japan, God's gidt to making Generations moulds stretch that bit further Then there's Krok, but his Action Master chums would tripple the length of this list! Voyager1 Apeface - repainted as BW Optimus Primal 2 Snapdragon - repainted as BW Megatron The lack of hese two in TR really annoys me. Tripple changing Voyager Headmasters seem set up for them.
3 Doubledealer - repainted as Stalker? The only larger Powermaster not done in TR. We got Optimus Prime and Overlord
4 BW Optimus Primal - repaint of Apeface 5 BW Megatron - repaint of Snapdragon included because, to me, they seem obvious repaints of 1 & 2 in this section and I'm clutching at straws a bit here 6 Springer 7 Sandstorm I'm in no way suggesting the T30 versions of these 2 are deficent, like Blitzwing, but the other 4 Tripplechangers were done in TR Leader1 Twincast - repainted/remoulded from Blaster 2 Soundblaster - repainted/remoulded from Soundwave Easy money 3 Scorponok - repainted/remoulded as Black Zarek 4 Black Zarek - repainted/remoulded from Scorponok Personally I think Scorponok is better suited to Leader than Titan. Your Mileage May Vary on this but you're more likely to get a Black Zarek at this size

I've also got an interesting idea about the Titanmaster/Primemaster size:
Combine the ideas so that instead of the interior robot inside the shell turning into a symbol for one of the Primes they become a head again. Start with the four Classic Pretenders, they've got shell designs already and will help sell the concept. Then go on to produce heads for other classic Transformers who've not had TR toys. Plenty of repaints in BB & Starscream too.

I would love to see future lines do something about this. I've got similar wishlists that simply come from lists of the 84-87 originals that I don't have good generations figures of.

Show us them, I'd like to see.
1984 is really a matter of wanting better versions.... HUFFER in particular.
1985 Deluxe Insecticons, Omega Supreme, Shockwave. Need a decent Legends Warpath.
1986 Predacons (coming) and Mini Autobots. Ratbat, Eject, Ramhorn & Steeljaw as tapes.
1988 Mostly covered above. Punch/Counterpunch, though the club version might do at a push.

I posted a list a page or so back - but at the time I was thinking who hasn't had a figure from the start of T30 onwards:
1984 No figure: Sideswipe, Frenzy Inappropriate size or restricted/limited release: Bluestreak, Ratchet, Skywarp, Thundercracker
1985 No figure: Omega Supreme, Dinobots, Grapple, Inferno, Red Alert, Tracks, Coneheads, Barrage, Ransack, Venom Inappropriate size or restricted/limited release: Shockwave
1986 No figure: Hubcap, Outback, Eject, Steeljaw, Runabout, Runamuck, Predacons, Ratbat Inappropriate size or restricted/limited release: Wreck-Gar, Ramhorn, Reflector
That was before TFN though and my Wheeljack revelation. Also worth removing the ones that came from the PotP leak.
So based off the fact the Generations Wheeljack is far superior to the CW one, I went on this mission to fill some holes with older CHUG figures, and asked the question in another thread about which Prime Wars figures have better versions in the older line.

I'd say none of the two teams of CW Autobots are better than their previous versions, neither is Warpath, Hot Rod or Wreck-Gar. YMMV on windcharger, and he's got a third version in aproximately the same size coming soon. You can argue the toss about if CW Prime & Megatron are better than their Classics versions.

For my money, they aren't. Reveal the Shield Windcharger is the best updated Windcharger. I think I preferred the legends Warpath over his supersized cousin, just because my head doesn't see Warpath as that big. They are both super good though.

Well that just increased the list considerably!
For the purposes of variety I reckon I'll explore a few more of the earlier figures. I would have bought the Planet of Junk set at TFN to get a couple of Junkions, but held back because I want to know what Walgreens are up to and we're also getting another Hot Rod next year. It was cheap at ID too, £45 I think.

There is the Combiner Wars one, but I'm not getting too ambitious, I meant the '85 Minibot crew. Bar Warpath they're being really well served by Generations. I think it's especially surprising given the lack of additional use they can get from the moulds. Scrounge was inspired.
