Rescue Bots tends to get very little attention from news sites, alas. This always puzzles me.

Action Masters aren't transformers anyway because they don't transform! But Action Master partners are Transformers because they do transform. They just happen to be partnered with non-Transformers/ex-Transformers. Martin

Animal modes for the cassettes and Trypticon are their robot modes! When Ravage gets a humanoid mode in Beast Wars, does his four-legged mode cease to be a robot mode? Transformers are always robots, whatever mode they are in, but I realise people often use robot mode to mean humanoid robot mode as opposed to car robot mode, because it's the mode in which a Transformer is no longer in disguise. No way! Et Tu, Shockprowl? The geewuniest of us? You endorse this nonsense? Well, it's not like a main-line, for us Collectors, it's a fun-line, so anything goes. Fun or side-lines are the place for pure toys, not collector's items. So from the point of view of this being a fun toy, it is more than exceptable. Would I replace my 3P MP Grimlock with one? No! Would I enjoy watching The Small drive her Ponies around on it? Yeah baby!

Martin It depends how you want to define robot mode. To me, going by the original premise, Transformers have a robot mode and a disguise mode. So G1 Ravage has a jaguar robot mode disguised as a tape. Beast Wars is a humanoid robot mode disguised as a jaguar. Of course all modes are robotic, but the robot/disguise labels make it easier to differentiate between them. In the case of this Grimlock, obviously the dinosaur is the robot mode and the bike the disguise mode. I'm just being silly. Grimlock in recent fiction aimed at the younger audience has increasingly had his character conveyed through the Dino mode, so it isn't really surprising that in this case the traditional humanoid robot has been dispensed with entirely. It's actually a pretty neat way to produce a Grimlock that conforms to the traditonal robot/vehicle combination by matching his aggressive 'roaring' with the engine noise instead of the more obvious pairing with him being a tank, ala aligned continuity pre-earth.
