I'd no idea Marvel was turning out so many comics. I thought the TF/Force/Cats triumvirate was it before the Dragon's Claws era. I see also Ewoks debuted in issue 661 of Spidey in 1985. What?! 661 issues?! Featuring Indiana Jones no less. www.comicpriceguide.co.uk/uk_comic.php?tc=ewoks

The Spider-Man comic had been going donkeys years, but under different titles. It had done really well relatively recently as Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends, reprinting Marvel Team Up/ASM with Thor/original X-Men/Hulk/FF/Avengers as back up as their own comics experienced "great news for all our readers" However at some point 84/5 ish it shot itself in the foot turning into a kiddie comic and died soon after and then was reborn after a short rest as Spider-Man & Zoids. www.comicpriceguide.co.uk/uk_comic.php?tc=spideyw

One of Marvel UK's biggest sellers yet mostly forgotten today, perhaps due to being a humour based title rather than action/adventure. Star Wars UK also had a lengthy run too under different names. -Ralph

Real Ghostbusters eluded me, but Star Wars I knew about because of the constant adverts in Doctor Who Weekly/Monthly. I bought a pile of those a good few years ago. I think I have the first thirty issues except issue one.

Galaxy Rangers got 9 issues an an Annual.
Visionaries got 5 issues and a special and an Annual. The latter two reprinted the firt story...which was also in Transformers twice!
This is all just scratching the surface. Marvel UK pumped out loads of titles.

I remember the Predacon Vs Dinobot battle in this issue to be very anti-climatic after waiting for it so long.

It's an odd story. Furman's stories always have lengthy recaps and flashbacks, almost excessively, but this doesn't because it's an advert for What's in a Name? So read in isolation it feels like there's something missing. I really like the idea that both Swoop and Divebomb don't want their teams there though. It got billed as a Dinobot/Predacon clash but it isn't really about that.

30 Years Ago This Week: Issue #137Ladies' Night - Part One. Archaeologist Susan Hoffman descends into Mount Verona and finds Galvatron and Ultra Magnus encased in hardened lava. She is interviewed on television by Joy Meadows, which is seen by Autobot renegades Blaster, Goldbug and Rollbar in a shop window; Cindy Newell after waking from a dream about Ultra Magnus; and Shockwave, who dispatches the Combaticons and Soundwave to ensure Galvatron is destroyed. When all of these parties converge on the lip of the volcano, Goldbug dismisses the idea of rescuing Ultra Magnus and leaves the Decepticons to their work, but Cindy declares she's not giving up that easily. Broken Glass, Part Four. The Decepticon attack is routed by the new and improved Autobots, but as the Nebulans celebrate, Llyra leaves Galen claiming he is no longer the man of peace she once loved. Elsewhere, the fact Collected Comics #7 goes on sale this week is totally ignored by Transformation, which instead plugs the imminent demise of one of Action Force's key characters in a bid to stir up interest in the Transformers' failing sister title; on the letters' page, reader Andrew Jackson from Coventry reveals he has discovered new toys called Technobots and Terrorcons in his local toyshop; and in Robo Capers, King Nonose's attempt to conquer the Earth is thwarted by none other than Maggie Thatcher.

30 Years Ago This Week: Issue #138Ladies' Night - Part Two. Swindle is taken down by Joy Meadows in a tank as he tries to set his explosives, and the other Combaticons look for their colleague only to fall foul of another trap set by the human trio. Meanwhile, the Throttlebots convince Goldbug to return to the volcano to rescue Joy and her friends and arrive just in time to save her from Onslaught. From a distance, Soundwave tries to detonate the explosives the Decepticons did manage to lay, but is unaware Blaster is blocking his signal. Inside the volcano, Galvatron begins to break free of his prison. Love and Steel, Part One. The Nebulan resort city of Splendora comes under attack from the Terrorcons and the Horrorcons, but the Technobots arrive in time to defend it. Computron takes on Abominus, which vanquishes the Decepticons, but local leader Soriza is skeptical about the presence of the Autobots. Elsewhere, Scorponok is equally dubious about Lord Zarak's desire to become a Headmaster. Elsewhere, it's a big 28 page issue with a lot to pack in. The A-Z covers Dirge and Divebomb, sadly omitting any of the Swoop backstory but informing readers he likes to make nests; Transformation reveals that Nostalgia and Comics are opening a Sheffield branch and Geoff Senior, Jeff Anderson, Lee Sullivan, Simon Furman, Kev Hopgood, Bryan Hitch, Mike Collins, Martin Griffiths and Ian Rimmer will ALL be in attendance to celebrate; and there's a competition to win Young Corgi's exciting new storybook Battle Beneath the Ice!

Yes. Totally toy focused. One of those great examples of transformers art that didn't come through the Marvel reference model route, but through the artists looking at the toys.

The art in this book is so lifelike it makes you think that they may as well have just used photos of the toys instead!

30 Years Ago This Week: Issue #139Used Autobots - Part One. Blaster, Goldbug and the Throttlebots are not only being pursued by the Combaticons, but also run into a RAAT tank lying in wait for them at a Blackrock petrol station. Needing time to work out their next move, the group hide in Big Steve's Used Car Lot and witness the proprietor's dodgy goings on. Meanwhile, Grimlock demands the Protectobots bring Blaster and Goldbug back to the Ark. Love and Steel, Part Two. Scorponok enjoys watching Monzo float away courtesy of Skullcruncher's anti-gravity gun, but gets upset when the Horrorcons report failing in their attempt to bring death and destruction to Splendora. Meanwhile at the Autobot headquarters outside Koraja, Galen ponders the destructive power of Cybertronian weaponry - just as a peace delegation arrive to keep an eye on him. Elsewhere, Transformation has a competition to win one of ten Dragon Lock (what?) games; the A-Z features Dragstrip and Fireflight; and on the letters' page, Adam Wymer of Edgware asks who created Unicron, to which Grimlock suggests he might learn the answer in upcoming stories.

30 Years Ago This Week: Issue #140Used Autobots - Part Two. The Throttlebots ask for Big Steve's help, but the money-grabbing villain fills their tanks with sugared petrol instead so he can claim RAAT's reward money. When the Protectobots turn up, Big Steve thinks he can get the two opposing teams to bid for the Throttlebots, but Onslaught cuts the auction short by ordering Swindle to kill him. Blaster intervenes to force the Combaticons to retreat, but as the dust settles, Hotspot announces the Protectobots haven't come to help Blaster, but to arrest him. Love and Steel, Part Three. Llyra brings a distress call from her father to Galen, and with the peace delegation in tow he takes the Autobots to rescue him. It proves to be a trap however, as on arrival Zarak reveals that he and his cronies have also become Headmasters. The other Nebulans watch in disbelief as the battle begins. Elsewhere, Transformation reckons that the recent toy adverts have been so good that the Targetmaster one is being provided as a free pull-out poster in this issue; issue 146 is revealed to be the start point for the next UK originated epic; and on the letters' page, Adam Cattani asks if the rub-sign free Transformers he recently bought in Italy are genuine, to which Grimlock says they are as distributors in other countries don't always use them.

30 Years Ago This Week: Issue #141Child's Play - Part One. While Grimlock orders the refuelling of the now repaired Ark, the Protectobots reach a disused rail yard on their return journey with Blaster. Suspecting a trap, they hide their prisoner so they can investigate, and discover the Combaticons lying in wait. A battle ensues in which both sides merge into their combined forms. Overlooking the scene, a bunch of kids come across Blaster, locked in his cassette deck mode and shoved in a pipe for safety by Groove. Love and Steel, Part Four. Attempting to create a diversion, Mindwipe hypnotises Llyra into leading the Nebulans into the Decepticon base, where he uses the bubble gun to send them skyward. Zarak realises Llyra is among them, causing a conflict with Scorponok's personality, but the Decepticon element wins out. As the Autobots try to rescue the Nebulans, they are mercilessly gunned down. Coming round, Llyra is confused by events and believes her father to have rescued her and that it was the Autobots under Galen's command who started the battle. Elsewhere, it's competition time again as Pickwick put a hundred new Decepticon Hideout Tell-A-Tale book and cassette packs up for grabs; and on the letters page Grimlock reveals Iron Man will return in issue 146 to replace The Headmasters, much to reader Matthew Parr's chagrin, and he tells James Marshall of Wellington that because Firebolt's demise happens sometime in the future, he'll have to still be reading in ten years' time to find out what happens to him!
