It was. I remember loving the fact it had Viz characters, Hero Turtles, Beano, DC, Marvel, Blakkadder, Carry On, Doctor Who,The Young Ones, Dan Dare, Lenny Henry and other comedians/presenters all in one continued comic.
And Judge Dredd losing a biggest chin competition to Bruce Forsyth.

Haven't found my old Strip issues yet - probably because I found an old Comic Relief comic that I ended up reading from around 1991. Anyone else have that? It had such a wide variety of characters and art styles in the story. Is that the one with the Transformers strip drawn by Lee Sullivan? If so, yes I have it somewhere.

No - Transformers were noticeably absent from the one I have. I didn't know there was another one! The fact it has Transformers in it makes it the better one straight away.

What do you mean? 2006 isn't in the past. It's in the future!

2006 will always exist 20 years in the future. Where there are hover boards, a big orange city for robots and time jump machines.
And that is my 2006 post.

When 2000AD drops through the letterbox every week it tells me stories of the future. It always has done, which is why it's called 2000AD. Stands to reason.

30 Years Ago This Week: Issue #274 GI Joe and the Transformers: Ashes, Ashes - Part 2: Shockwave persuades Cobra to attack the Ark to retrieve a power unit he wants to use to improve Alpha. Serpentor agrees, biding his time. GB Blackrock talks to the Joes about Bumblebee's remains and they wonder if he really is dead. At the Ark, Blaster oversees Optimus Prime's funeral. Hawk continues to think about Senator Larkin instead of his job. Mrs Duranti nervously waits for her son to undergo surgery to remove Bombshell's implant. Senator Larkin meets the Baroness at a cafe for tea so she can reveal the fact she has been working with her all along to ensure Alpha's destruction. All in five pages! Where Wolf: Prowl persuades Grimlock to help Springer. Snarler believes Carnivac is dead but realises it's only his shell that has been destroyed - just as he is attacked from above. Bludgeon is angry that his chance to fight Carnivac was snatched from him, and turns round to find the entire Earthforce team offering to fight him instead. A battle ensues and the Autobots triumph over the Mayhems. Springer is about to execute Bludgeon for the murder of Carnivac, but Carnivac himself appears and stops him. Prowl feels that being reminded Autobots don't kill puts Carnivac's loyalty beyond question, but as the Mayhems leave, Carnivac explains denying Bludgeon a warrior's death is a worse fate than killing him and that he is still an Evil Decepticon at heart. Elsewhere, Transformation is happy to explain inker Pete Venters takes his first foray into penciling with this issue's cover; the Next Week box reverts to its previous format with the blurb restored; there's an offer from Merlin for a free World Cup 1990 album with eight starter stickers; and on the letters' page, the mystery of the second Transformers movie rumour is finally laid to rest as the originator, John McLoughlin of Dublin, reveals his source - a comic shop catalogue price list that includes Transformers The Movie - 2, which Dreadwind delights in pointing out is a comic issue number, not a film.

I like Springer has forgotten he can leap large distances and can also turn into a helicopter so he uses one of those hover things instead.

30 Years Ago This Week: Issue #275 GI Joe and the Transformers: Ashes, Ashes - Part 3: Omega Supreme single-handedly defends the Ark against Cobra's attack and Serpentor orders his troops to withdraw. At the Pentagon Hawk learns of Senator Larkin's betrayal. Mrs Duranti is pleased to find her son survived the operation. Dr McGrath is curious about the chip he has removed from Anthony, not knowing that as he prods it, some miles distant, Bombshell transforms uncontrollably. Dr Mindbender witnesses this and wonders if this weakness can be exploited. Secrets: Megatron is annoyed that Shockwave knew where his latest energon shipment would arrive and he commands Soundwave to find the traitor in his camp. Soundwave ponders how to escape the situation as he is the spy and settles on using Wildrider's paranoia. He fakes his own death in front of the Stunticon, confiding in him that some secret plans must be passed on to Shockwave. Wildrider believes Soundwave has been poisoned and goes to make the transmission but is caught by Megatron and violently destroyed. Soundwave, believing himself safe, realises he can blackmail the Decepticons he mind-read now he knows what they were thinking. Elsewhere, Transformation reveals that next week's issue will feature a fabulous free gift; Dingo Fun Karts promise fun - any time, anywhere (garden at least one third of an acre and £450 for the Kart required); Colin discovers the Evil Brain is now the Evil Mega-Brain; and on the letters' page, Dreadwind ponders whether it's acceptable to say 'shagpile' in a kids' comic and Leslie Hall of High Wycombe excitedly reports finding Fortress 'Maximum' in a toyshop in Yorkshire.

You'd have thought if he was so excited about finding the toy he'd get the name right. And where was this mystery Yorkshire toy shop? Does Shockers remember any early 90s specialist toy shops on his patch?
Of course what's really happening here is that Shockwave has found the biggest Crunchie mine in the world.

HOW DARE YOU?!?!
HOW DARE YOU?!?!
No, I was born in Yorkshire, but then we moved... South... actually, east, to Norfolk.
But thinking about it, we were back up'north by 1990.
But the only G1 Fort Max I've seen was in a shop in Luton in... 2010ish.
