"the dreaded number 332 appears for the first time" -I don't understand. Did they announce the fact the comic would finish at issue 332? No, but the readership at this point was old enough and savvy enough to know the US comic had ended, so questions had already been asked about what was going to happen in the UK. By this issue, I would guess a lot of the readership knew the US story would run until issue 332 in the UK because we were getting half a US comic per UK issue, so the editorial admitted that by saying, if we do go past issue 332, there won't be any new strip content. None was being made in the US, and the UK comic had stopped producing its own content at the end of the Earthforce run.

I have memory of winning a Classic Hero, either Wheeljack or Sunstreaker, I'm not sure, around this time, but I didn't design a Transformer, I sent in a picture of Unicron attacking Cybertron, as I'd read US #75 a few months before it was printed in the UK comic, so I was showing off my advance knowledge of what was going to happen. WHAT. You came runner up in a design a Transformer competition but didn't design a Transformer? A THIRTY YEAR OLD MISCARRIAGE OF JUSTICE EXPOSED!

WHAT. You came runner up in a design a Transformer competition but didn't design a Transformer? A THIRTY YEAR OLD MISCARRIAGE OF JUSTICE EXPOSED! Two key words: 'runner up'. It would have been a miscarriage if I'd won. I think I had done the pic before the competition was announced, and thought, that's the best TF pic I've done to date, what the hell. And then Marvel UK did a giant 3-part poster with very similar composition in terms of characters. I told myself my picture gave them some ideas for it. Martin

No it wasn't! We've already discussed Martin's inability to remember his appearance in Stock Exchange a while ago. Erased it from my memory again. I guess I just don't think a mention in Stock Exchange is particularly earned or an achievement to boast about. Martin

I'm pretty sure that every single issue of The Transformers contained a message that said, "If you write a letter good enough to appear on our letters page, you're amazing and we'll send you a fantastic toy as a thank-you for your valued contribution, but if we print your Stock Exchange request we're not sending you anything because you've done nothing worthy of praise. In fact, you should really be sending us a toy for doing you a favour."
I think those were the exact words, actually.

Thinking about it, given the number of runners up in the competition, getting a classic hero is a pretty good win.

Went out on a hight though.

HANG ON. Was it a design-a-Transformer competition or a draw-a-Transformer competition? thesolarpool.weebly.com/transformers-uk311.html"If anyone wants to make up their own new Transformer character this will also be acceptable." It said they had 50 Classic Heroes to give away! I must have received Wheeljack. I think Sunstreaker had been dropped from the range by that point. Martin

Actually, you're right, the results page does say Draw a Transformer.

That must've been tough, knowing the end was coming. You've started me thinking now. I can't remember what I thought at that point. I guess I was enjoying it while it lasted. I think having read the US comic, which finished at the end of May, I was just buying the UK comic out of loyalty and for the sake of completion. It did have a twist before the end, but I guess we'll uncover that in the coming months in these posts.

30 Years Ago This Fortnight: Issue #325Exodus - Part 1: Without Primus as a binding force, Cybertron begins to break up. The impending doom puts a strain on the fragile relationship between the Autobots and Decepticons, and a council meeting led by Prowl almost descends into chaos when Grimlock, Autobot leader, provokes Fangry. Blaster's recommendation is to evacuate the planet - something that elsewhere, Shockwave and Starscream are also attempting with the now repaired Ark. Prowl tries to convince Grimlock to make a speech to allay the fears of the Autobots, but he isn't interested. Krok and Bludgeon discuss tactics, but are distracted when the argument from earlier boils over and Grimlock throws Fangry through a window. Machine Man 2020 - Rime of the Ancient Wrecker - Part 4: Previously printed in #38. Elsewhere, Transformation tells GI Joe fans to look out for the exciting new Joe annual, along with offerings from Marvel Superheroes, Spider-Man and the X-Men; in the A-Z Weirdwolf features; Colin tries to persuade Steve he isn't himself; and on the letters' page, Blaster continues to reassure worried readers that Hasbro have no plans to end the Transformer toy line.

I recall there being a bit of confusion about that when he took over, wasn't there? His backstory changed and there was some parallel universe nonsense?

Yes - it seemed he travelled from the 'toy bio universe' - because in the story at the time, he was still offline and not an Action Master yet.
It would have been a bit too far fetched saying that a living, real life robotic alien Transformer was answering our letters, if he was supposed to be dead in the stories.

30 Years Ago This Fortnight: Issue #326Exodus - Part 2: Shockwave and Starscream lift off in the Ark, unaware of a figure stirring in the stasis pods. Grimlock and Fangry go at it until Prowl tells Grimlock to think with his brain, not his fists, however Bludgeon tries to reignite the animosity by demanding to know how the Autobots intend to maintain their new alliance. Elsewhere, the Neo Knights lick their wounds and wonder what to do about Hi-Q. Grimlock secretly confides in his fellow Dinobots. The Decepticons, having sabotaged the Autobot ships, leave Cybertron intent on conquering Earth. Galvatron, secreted on the Ark, watches Cybertron vanish into the distance before coming face to face with... Megatron! Machine Man 2020 - Victory - Part 1: Previously printed in #39. Elsewhere, Transformation tells readers to look out for a Fiendish Feet Halloween competition next issue; Skullcruncher features in the A-Z; Colin discovers he isn't Mutant Master after all - Megabrain is; The red car and the blue car had a race; Marvel advertise the first issue of an exciting new 80-page X-Men comic that has four collectible covers; and on the letters' page, Blaster claims to be 3,701,921 years old.
