Hm. I was thinking of writing a story in honour of these eight rediscovered character profiles, about Roadbuster, Whirl, Hubcap, Swerve and the Deluxe Insecticons on Earth (not USA) in 1987-8, but I've had the wind knocked out of my sails, now that I've looked up Roadbuster and Whirl's vehicle modes and discovered that they aren't real Earth vehicles. Whirl is almost an Apache helicopter and Roadbuster could be any one of the many, many military vehicles out there. (Swindle's vehicle mode has yet to be attributed to a real world vehicle, as it happens.)
I think the prospect of a new Martin penned TF story far outweighs the fact that these guys aren't quite real Earth vehicles.

Ralph just sees robot that turns into helicopter. This is enough for him.

Whirl is almost an Apache helicopter Closer to the AH-1 Cobra, beloved of the USMC, than to the Apache. In honesty the Gazette (which toy became Whirl) is as near as makes no odds a Cobra. Separate him from his Dovrack origins and he actually looks closer to a Cobra than Starscream's toy does to an F-15 - he is that close. About the only thing you need to do is move the rotary gun to the copters chin and that about sorts it. Roadbuster is close enough to blend in as far as I am concerned. (After all if we allow for the vagarities of the art we could suggest that there are vehicles on the Earth of the Transformers that do not exist on ours - some of the USAF aircraft seen in the course of events look sufficiently dissimilar that there is a bit of wiggle room in terms of things matching up anyway). And let me add my voice to those that says the small gap that exists isn't enough that we would want to see it prevent you from writing whatever you have in mind. Karl

Whoops, I meant to say Cobra. I was even reading his TFWiki entry at the time, so why I put Apache I don't know.
I certainly like your viewpoint of "vehicles on the Earth of the Transformers" as a neat enough get-out clause!

Whoops, I meant to say Cobra. I was even reading his TFWiki entry at the time, so why I put Apache I don't know. Probably all the exposure that the Apache has had in recent years. A lot if the time it is them that the media will mention if they are talking about attack helicopters . Probably helped by the fact that I think the US Army has more of them than the USMC does Cobras (and the Apache is the poster girl for America's modern wars whilst the Cobra hails from the one they would rather forget). Ta muchly. Karl

All of the characters missing from the original TFU trade (Eject, Inferno, Pipes, Rewind, Sandstorm, Steeljaw, Tailgate, Topspin, Twin Twist) except for Eject should have A-Z entries in the UK Classics books by the time James gets to the end of the series (although the A-Z and Universe wording isn't identical, I'll admit). So we are really buying US Classics Volume 8 for Eject and the later profiles that weren't printed in the UK.

Yes of course, that's the real reason. Otherwise I'd just stick to TFU Volume 1 plus my colour print-outs from www.ntfa.net/universe/english/index.php . I bet they recolour Soundwave blue and remove his mouth. That's what they've been doing in the US Classics series generally. Martin
