Anyone been watching this on 5? I'm enjoying it. The chap who plays Gordon is good, and I love what they're doing with The Penguin. Shaping up well.

The show has it's problems. But overall, I enjoy it. Selina and Cobblepot are my favorite characters so far.
I do feel that Renee has no business being there, because I feel like she should be one of the kids. Also, her relationship with Barbara feels really forced.

Overall I'm enjoying it so far.
In last night's episode I wonder if making Oswald restaurant manager was a late addition. He gets promoted, then a bit later we see him calling Gordan in uniform (like he's just nipped out on his shift whilst he has a minute), then at the end he's in the suit he was given money for earlier. Not a big deal, just something that made me go "hang on a min?".

Yes watching it - Marvel comics X-men sponser DC Comics Gotham Yes we find that wierd! Yeah, really loving the Penguin. I've always thought the 'sane' Batman villian is often overlooked. Excited to see his rise.

I don't know many of the characters names apart from the following - Bruce (we all know US TV people said Bruce was a gay name, the reason why they used David for the Hulk also the Hulks name is Robert Bruce Banner while in the Tv series he was David Bruce Banner - so they still called him Bruce they just dropped Robert. because looking at Bruce Willis & the last thing you think off is someone who's gay - you have all woman wanting to wash his vest from Die Hard), Alfred, Gordon (who was the other guy in the 60's series? I can't remember his name you had Gordon & another bloke with the red phone), Cobblepot Cat woman

We've gotten over the whole "bruce is a gay name" long ago. And the only ones who ever really thought that to begin with, were the producers of the Hulk series.
So far, the characters in play are Bruce and Alfred, no explination needed.
Jim Gordon- main character, and will be better known as Commissioner Gordon in media set later.
Harvey Bullock- Gordon's grouchy and partner. He's best known as Detective Bullock in Batman: The Animated Series, the slovenly policeman who typically hated Batman.
Barbara Keene- Gordon's fiance, and future mother of Batgirl.
Renee Montoya- the detective who's convenced Gorfon is dirty. Best known from TAS, where she was created, and in the comic becomes The Question.
Crispin Allen- Montoya's partner, and is prominant in the comic. I don't personally know anything about him.
Edward Nygma- the creepy CSI guy. Best known as The Riddler.
Oswald Cobblepot- Main villain who Gordon spared. Penguin, obviously.
Falcone- the Tony Soprano of the series. Pretty big mob boss in all series.
Fish Mooney- mob chick, Flacone underling. I never heard of her before this.
"Kat"- Homeless street urchin girl. Better know as Selina Kyle, the Catwoman.
Cameo: Ivy Scott (I think?)- the abused little readhead girl in the pilot. Better known as Pamela Isley, AKA Poison Ivy. No clue why they changed her name.
There were other cameos in the pilot, but it's been so long, and so much has happened, that's the extent of my memory.

Fish Mooney is, I am fairly sure, a show-only character.
Crispin Allen was the "viewpoint" character in the "Gotham Central" series - he came into Gotham from (iirc) the Metropolis PD (and colleagues did wonder why anyone would transfer from anywhere to the GCPD), and as a result could legitimately have things that readers need to be told explained to him without it coming across as "as you know bob". Neither he nor Renee Montoya are really being done anything approaching justice by "Gotham" so far, and I don't know why they aren't random cops with random names.
For me the real prize of the series is Cobblepot - he is an odious, terrifying character, but something in the actors performance makes the prospect of watching him claw his way to boss (or even Boss of Bosses) over the corpses of other criminals something I am rather looking forward to. The other two real gems have been Gordon (a fantastic "good man in a bad town" performance, mixed with a rather endearing "...the hell did I just see?" expression at times) and Bullock (superb performance, which really does capture both the "eh, couldn't be bothered" aspect of the Bullock of B:TAS, but also hints at the good cop that could be under there ala his memorable guest spot in "Gotham Central". The "Bullock Manhunt" montage in episode 2 was absolute comedy gold!)

I think as the series goes on Bullock is going to be redeemed, albeit only somewhat by his association with Gordon.
Cris Allen also became a host for The Spectre around Infinite Crisis iirc.

I think as the series goes on Bullock is going to be redeemed, albeit only somewhat by his association with Gordon. I tend to agree, it is the logical character arc for him - given that he is already warming slightly to his new partner. Cris Allen also became a host for The Spectre around Infinite Crisis iirc. I thought that was his fate, but I didn't feel confident enough of it to mention it. Given your comics-fu surpasses mine I am more confident about it now. :-) Karl

So far I'm glad I did. He play Gordon well and if nothing else, as someone said (not sure if it was here or not), a show about an honest cop in a seriously corrupt world has plenty of potential. If nothing else it makes a change from the current trend of at best morally ambiguous if not outright evil lead characters. I do find myself spending probably more time than I should wondering about when exactly the show is set. I suppose it exists in its own little world, but it's still distracts me seeing clashes of old and new, modern cars but pre HD TVs and monitors for example.

It seems all the bad guys are going to be about 10yrs older than Batman when he does show up - but the goat mask this time - you can tell the series writers are setting up elements of the Bat suit. Is the Penguin going to stay tall or go short like we know him. I know everyone wants to see the Joker turn up. But that is a major villian.

Joker should NEVER EVER be in this series. Also, I wouldn't say all the villains will be ten years older. There are a ton we haven't seen yet, like Hatter, Talia, Croc, Clayface. And a few we have seen are his age, like Hush and Ivy. Though, like Montoya, I feel Dent doesn't belong as an adult. He should be one of bruce's school mates and best friend.

I agree. The Joker is a reaction to Batman. If he shows up beforehand game over.
The Red Hood I would accept though.

I agree also that Joker should not feature in Gotham. There's more than enough goodness with what they're doing with the Penguin.

The Joker should be like Apocalypse in X-men films - don't state anything about him for the first 14 years (even if the story he turns up in is 20yrs before the first Movie ? what ? )

When should this be back on TV? Isn't the US already onto the Arkham stuff. One thing from playing Arkham City - group heard talking something along the lines of "Sionis built the rides then he disappeared & the Joker turned up" I know Sionis was in the first lot of GTV & with not knowing much about the character could he become the Joker? I don't think the one everybody is saying might be the Joker would work because he has the height but we like him playing that character.

The last I have heard pointed to "sometime in March", but without any actual date. I suspect they are waiting for the production to have done enough episodes so they can air it as a weekly block like they did the first half of the season.

One thing from playing Arkham City - group heard talking something along the lines of "Sionis built the rides then he disappeared & the Joker turned up" There are mixed/unsure Joker origins... I wouldn't read anything into what you heard in Arkham City applying to any other canon. The most wildly accepted one is in Alan Moore's The Killing Joke.

Roman Sionis is Black Mask, who you may see make a reappearance later in the series. Rumours are we may see the Red Hood aka Joker before he was Joker. Andy

Red Herrings too There has been all sorts of curveballs thrown. Quite a few Batman cast are now surfacing as expected. Without spoiler, episode 17 is the most squeamish one yet. Just a warning.

I did not like Fish Mooney at the start of the series. Largely because the actress's performance seemed to be too over the top, compaired to her cast mates (like she watched the 60s Batman to prepair, instead of approaching this as Sopranos in Gotham).
But she's really grown on me, for some reason. Maybe because she's like, the only character who's under any real danger (we all know none of the kids, alfred, penguin, and so on will ever have anything serious done to them)
