I remember passing up one of these .. 18 years ago now, because I thought I had spent enough after buying Predaking and Trypticon etc.. He also had Battle Gaia and wanted £50 for the two. Foolishness on my part.

I remember the excitement when Nick of this parish acquired a boxed Guard City. I also recall the crushing disappointment of having a shot of it and realising it was not very well made cheap crap. It really is best experienced as a photo! We forget that it was at the arse end of the original run of The Transformers. -Ralph

Whaaaat he did?

Yes he did. The box was in fabulous condition and the toys themselves appeared to have barely been touched. Alas, in hand it is not a great set. It really should have remained something only seen in pictures!

Isn't Motormaster tiny! Still, very shortly CW Menasor will have G1 Menasor next to him! We've got a thread for this but I can't remember what it was called - the one about things you never knew about Transformers. So I've learned that Motormaster has a small car that comes with him that attaches to his chest in Menasor mode! I never knew that! I see now where the CW legend idea comes from! So - this small black car, is it actually Blackjack? has it ever been given a personality? I don't remember any of the other special teams having something like this? Onslaught just had a chest plate. Menasor has a small unnamed car! who is he? what's his bio/purpose? I need knowledge! Has he ever been used in any fictions? Did Defensor have something like this then?

The car was unnamed and didn't transform till Combiner Wars.

Is that it!? Surely in 30 years someone did something with it?!
Poor unnamed car.

Is that it!? Surely in 30 years someone did something with it?! Poor unnamed car. Motormaster was a childhood favourite toy. In my imagination the black car was Evil Roller (as Motormaster was meant to be the nemesis of Optimus Prime). Evil Roller often zoomed up and down Motormaster's ramp when I had it in base mode. I recently re-acquired a Motormaster but need Evil Roller (and gun, hat, belt and sword). The lack of a base mode and included wee car was why I had no interest in CW Motormaster. -Ralph

Yup, G1 Motor Master is a great, if out-of-scale.... but super fun and a great character.

That is amazing. Truly. I never experienced this as a child. Infact I don't actually remember putting Onslaught into base mode. This is all new to me.
But I have to say. The Stunticons are a bit weedy compared to the Combaticons. At least the 12 year old me is telling me this because I sold my Bruticus years ago. In my head they're much chunkier than these carbots.

Next you'll tell us you didn't know they linked to Metroplex & Trypticon in City mode or that the Japanese versions had launchers in them!

I know about the linking because, er, you told me. I had Metroplex and I had Onslaught. I am ashamed I did not know they connected. Was that on the instruction sheet? I really thought I knew these toys.
Launchers? Really? What, wait, these were unreleased Diaclone weren't they? I've got that bit right surely? So the Japanese Transformers had launchers? What did Onslaught launch?

I really thought I knew these toys. Can't remember if they're on the instruction sheet. Metroplex: Silverbolt's landing gear and the rectangle on the back of Onslaught's head fit onto the rectangular indentations at the front of the ramps formed from the legs. The tabs sticking down from Hotspot and Motormaster's base modes fit over the rectangular loops sticking out the side of the legs. This post shows them connected and features the three bases with launchers www.tfw2005.com/boards/transformers-toy-discussion/717056-jealousy-thread-post8642255.htmlTrypticon: same pieces fit onto the odd L shaped grey bits that fit under the folded out hip panels www.tfw2005.com/boards/transformers-general-discussion/552663-gestalt-leaders-post7324799.htmlLaunchers? Really? What, wait, these were unreleased Diaclone weren't they? I've got that bit right surely? So the Japanese Transformers had launchers? What did Onslaught launch? Yes, it's believed Metroplex and the special teams are unused Diaclone. Here's Motormaster in action: All the launchers are designed to launch team members. Hotspot never had one. Poor Hot Spot :-(

This is absolutely amazing. I am stunned. I've just tried to communicate my amazement to Mrs P because she doesn't understand the noises I'm making, but her face is telling me she doesn't appreciate the significance of this news. It's quite a scary face.
Gob? Smacked. I... Wow.

Sometimes 80's toys are actually better than modern ones because they do do more stuff! 80's Motormaster does loads more than modern Cw Motormaster!

The first thing I realised when I woke up this morning was that I have a Trypticon these days. Duh! Later he will be united with Motormaster.
Those instructions are from Trypticon though aren't they? rather than Motormaster or Onslaught? Their instructions don't mention the connectivity and Metroplex's don't either. So over here back in the day we wouldn't have known about it?

Ah right, wasn't paying attention. No Metroplex instructions just have him using the Aerialbots as armour.
