FOC Grimlock was a blight. It was a blight against dinosaurs. It was a blight against dinobots. It was a blight against grimlocks. It was a blight against decent toys. It was one of the single worst molds ever made. It was knockoff cheap and flimsy.
And worst of all, it was a blight against dinosaurs. It makes me vomit in my mouth.
But damn does it become Kaijulock really well.

You didn't like the original mold then, CJ? ;-)

In the absence of Phil to do this kind of thing for us: new pics on TFW2005 via twitter that show TAV-33 Op Supreme mode is really rather nice:

Compared to TAV-21, the pre-remould version:

It's definitely got a little more silver...
I do like it. It's just not worth the asking price.

I really like this revised version. Compared to something like the Roll Out Command Optimus thingie from Animated it looks cracking. The thing with something this big though (30cm tall) is that you always have the question "What does it do?" This is beyond modern Leader size, it's an old school base scale figure like G1 Prime, or Armada. It should have extra functions and features beyond just transforming. But does it? If this was an old fashioned 'occupy you for the whole of Christmas Day' because it's packed with hidden fun then I reckon I'd buy it.

Indeed. I am of the opinion that toys that cost more should have more play features.

Aye. The best thing about Fortress Maximus, even better than being a double Headmaster? That little lift and ramp in his central tower. Wheeee!

Grimlock's got new minicon ports on his shoulders. Is Phil down with the RiD minicons? or is that new fangled nonsense not pure in the eyes of the minicon faithful?

If it fits on a minicon port, it is a minicon, I believe.

These are modern ports though. Not pegs, little I shaped bars. New fangled!

I imagine c-clipped Minicons would make Phil very happy.
But I-clips sound new and scary.

Clip evidence! C? I? I've no idea. All my Armada toys are in the loft. Wait, didn't they have pegs with a hole in the middle? that isn't a C or an I! Anyway, this is what's on Grimlock's shoulder. The connector is the bit on the circular rim, not the centre.

I. That's new, don't like that.
HLJ looked to have been stiffed on Rumble, Frenzy and Dark Shadow :-( Now showing as discontinued

So Minicons.....
Armada Minicons have 5mm sockets with a peg down the middle which means they fit onto a 5mm post with a hole on a larger toy. That's the standard from Armada to Classics with only one Minicon not having the hole. I leave it as an exercise to the reader to establish which one.
Arms Micron changes things round: the larger toy gets a 5mm hole while the Minicon get a 5mm pegs (nothing down the middle of either) This makes better hand held weapons out of the Minicons
C-clips is a standard iuntroduced with Revenge of the fallen dave. The weapon has a c shaped clip which fits on a 3mm bar.
C-clips have never been crossbred with Minicons. FOR SHAME, FOR SHAME!
This new system is plain stupid and I will have no truck with it.

Now that's more like it. This is how things should be. Please don't go away again Phil, your stabilising presence is essential to our understanding of life. I felt my shoulders unknotting just reading that.
Down with modern I clip Minicon bars! impure! impure!
