My brain says:
If you are willing to get Autobot combiner remoulds, why not cancel and get new Construction moulds instead ?
normally I would be all over this , but I have Takara anime Devastator and am happy with him. All I really need are 3rd party pants for the legs. I don't need super posseable individual robots since their main virtue is the playability of the vehicles . ..
Meanwhile , the Autobots may be re moulds , but they are COOL characters. While I have MP Prowl, he's a bit tall and a CW Prowl would mingle better with everyone . ..
so...passing on Devastator . Good job on it though

I'm not sure. I think the lack of paint apps and general detail in the sculpting would make him stand out too much. However if you're going retail there isn't another option for a Masterpiece shelf combiner. I am deeply in love with Warbotron's Bruticus, I gaze lovingly at him every night in a very real and passionate way, but even he doesn't have quite the finish that the MP shelf needs.

Hmmmm, if Warbotron's Bruticus doesn't do the MP dance, then there's no chance of CW Devastator doing it. What about the Takara version?

Takaras will almost certainly have more and better paint apps that bring out the details of the mould.
Hasbro or Takara I think the mould is going to look better with Masterpieces toys than Classics.

*Climaxes* So, what do we think, Cyber-buddies, could this brute really fit in with Masterpiece? COULD HE?!?! I think it depends on who you ask. I mean, my answer would be "why not?" but I've been known to mix 1984 toys with, Classics , Alternity and Beast Wars on the same shelf. The variety in Transformers is something I rather like and I've never really felt a need to tie myself to the aesthetic of a single sub-line. I always figure when it comes to kids toys "buy what you enjoy" should be the principle. Karl

If you think that's bad, one of the living room shelves has two mid-price diecast aircraft, a Sabre Tiger Zoid and a Lego Exo-Force Mech on it... There used to be an Alpha Fighter over there as well, but the slight cant on the shelf made it's stand slide of on occasion so we had to "respot the deck"... :-)

Good heavens there's no end to the depravity on here. Next you'll be telling us your toys are allowed to hold each other's guns!

I thought the point of 'Masterpieces' was to have toys that look like the animation models? Devastator's animation model back in the day was not covered in hyper-detail so I suppose CW Devastator fits in fine with MP toys if that's what some folk want to do with it.

There's only one thing for it - we need a third Masterpiece Optimus. Get it right this time, Takara!
(Disclaimer: I do actually love MP-10 and want it to have my babies.)

Depends on when you ask. Because the purpose of the Masterpiece line seems to have changed several times:-
1) "Ultimate" versions of mecha from various franchises Takara had an interest in, reimagined with modern manufacturing techniques 2) "Ultimate" versions of Transformers characters updated and reimagined with modern manufacturing techniques 3) "Ultimate" versions of Transformers characters based on animation models from the various TV incarnations, but with tweaks and higher detail to allow them to compete at the lower end of the Collector market.
At least, that is the various changes of strategy over the years as they appear to me anyway

Err, I demand half ultimate 'G1/The Transformers' update, and half Sunbow-like, from my Masterpieces.
On that basis CW Devastator may just work, if he's big enough.

The point of Masterpiece currently seems to be to give you toys that look the way you remember the animated characters, rather than what they actually looked like, with a healthy dose of respect shown to the original toys where possible.
Which provides some really rather lovely figures. Masterpiece meets the nostalgia/adult display piece collector need, Generations meets the 'I still like toys' need.
There's no reason why CW Devastator can't go on a Masterpiece shelf. He can go wherever anyone wants to put him. Based on size alone it'd look terrific.

BBTS has theirs up, too. Dispite being twice as much as the CW version, finances have forced me to opt for it, instead.
