I'm pretty much the opposite here. I literally opened up MP UM this morning and I still think he's absolutely amazing. Sure, this new one looks pretty frikkin' sweet, but the MP one is an MP one and feels very much like he deserves the moniker. I'll probably get this new one, because I'm a damn fool, but I am in no way regretting plumping for the MP.

I don't even get why people are so bothered by the buttflap. It's part of the character model.

I don't even get why people are so bothered by the buttflap. It's part of the character model. It's more the fact, it's much larger than it would be. When you look at the designs in the Generations book, you can see it wasn't part of the original designs so it was changed. It's ugly and inelegant and for a line with the name Masterpiece that's out of place. That being said, the minute a Dialclone colour scheme is up it is getting bought! Andy

Hasbro have left that out so the 3P companies can get in on that.

I have to say that I do like that Ultra Magnus, from the front at least. Not such a fan of it from the rear but them's the breaks. I do really like Rook, lovely to have another new character. And even if I can't afford the rest of the Protectobots (my employment status by the end of the year depending), I may try and snag him to form part of Ultra Prime or something.
I am impressed with what they have done with Cyclonus to make him distinct from Silverbolt. That is a very nice job.

Oh, re Magnus, who's this 'Minimus Ampule' chap? What's he all about and why does he opperate/pilot UM? I assume it's a comics storyline?
Also on UM. A Masterpiece and a kick-ass Generations within months/a year (ish) of each other? Bonkers. Although I spit on MP UM's arse flap, the rest of him looks pretty awe inspiring. And now this incredible looking Generations version?! Ultra Magnus is the bot to be!

Okaaay. Clearly I need to study this in more detail. I can do that whist I decide which child I'm going to sell in order to afford all these new figures.

Ultra magnus is a proper pretender toy. That fact alone would be enough to make me want it.
Thinking about potential repaints. Aside from the obvious powered convoy straight repaint and assuming the trailer is heavily modified. Powermaster prime and HiQ. Seems the least likely, but most recognisable.
Star convoy and Hot Rodimus. Presumably would just be renamed prime. All in one transformation is a better match than pmop and ambus repainted as rodimus works.
Or the one I'd lean towards thunderclash. No idea who ambus becomes, maybe hyperdrive working as a double homage, the turbomaster leader that never was and micromaster sports car, admittedly a decepticon. Or just oneof the turbomaster cars. But TC ia built on a similar scale and look to UM in idw.
Or they could just make it hyperdrive, actually if they did that they could then repaint it as starconvoy later.

I'd love a Thunderclash based on that toy, with a wee bit remoulding.
A Star Convoy would not go amiss either,

UM repainted/modified into Power Master Optimus with Hi-Q is a BRILLIANT idea, Andy!

I'd just like to be the third person in this thread to mention ankle tilts.
Oh, and that while not essential they are my favourite invention in terms of toy articulation in recent years. I actually love the fact this matters to me and I can mention this here in all seriousness and be taken seriously. They add a level of dynamism to leg posing that opens up all manner of possibilities.
Ultra Magnus made my valentines day. I am in love.
(Shhhhh. Don't tell Mrs Pinwig)

Your two Ultra Manuses could fight each other!
Or have a party!
Good call on ankle tilts. Hadn't realised how important they are to me 'till you just pointed it out.

You may have missed this, I know I did posting it bleary eyed at 6:30 this morning: The text accompanying these pictures says that Magnus' guns and missile pods combine into a hammer! Oh yeah :-) Superb extra for the toy :-D

Absolutely! Good lad, 'Nova.
My Fansproject Magnus looks like boiled ham at the moment.
Edit: I've no idea what I meant by that 'boiled ham' comment. I was trying to say 'he looks out of date'. Given time I'm sure I could have come up with something better than 'boiled ham', but, that's what came out of my brain at the time so that's what I'm going with.
Edit Edit: I feel guilty now. Fansproject Ultra Magnus was the first Third Party figure/item I ever got. It was THE first Third Party proper full figure (wasn't it?). It's given me years of great fun. So, I am sorry FP UM. You're going nowhere.
Except into the loft.
Edit Edit Edit: AHHH!!! I'll give him to Piglet! The eldest! He'll end up with Moshlings stood all over him, but Ultra Magnus is so polite he'd never complain! The Moshi Mall would be safe from Dr Strangeglove then!

I missed this poll so didn't vote, but it would appear that it wasn't until MTME that we would have wanted an IDW Magnus.

I wasn't clever enough to have found this poll before. Or to have joined the board in good time. But yeah, I think it was that accursed Roberts that made me want an IDW-accurate Magnus so bad.
