Could folks please spare a thought for my family? My grandfather has just been taken to hospital with a major stroke. He is very old and has a history of heart problems and repairs so this is perhaps not unexpected.
No matter what happens now I don't think things will be as before which creates a lot of other problems as he is the sole (stubborn) carer for my gran who is suffering more and more with dementia to the point where she can't be left alone these days.
Thanks.

Thanks all.
He is on a ward on a drip. No feeling down right hand side of body and has pneumonia. Semi-concious.
Lots of the 'senior' family members have gathered at the hospital. Rest of us on stand by as it were as things very unclear currently. Think I will spend the weekend powering through several work items that need doing over the next few weeks just in case.

We'll know more tomorrow evening once it has been 72 hours post-admission and they have completed tests etc. He has been unconscious since it happened and has little to no response to touch on his right hand side. Still critical but doesn't seem to be worsening for the moment. He was probably lying on the floor at home undiscovered for anything up to 2 hours which in the case of a stroke is not so good.
My parents have been sent home because they are both ill themselves and no sense spreading bugs to the hospital or other family members. Many hands still down there to help my gran and sit with grandad. Depending on what his diagnosis is tomorrow I plan to go down some time in the next couple of weeks just to sit with him for a while if nothing else.

Thanks for people's thoughts and prayers. Just heard tonight that he will not regain conciousness and has now been placed on end of life care and is expected to pass on any day soon. Hopefully with as little discomfort as possible.

Thanks for folks thoughts. He passed away earlier this afternoon.
My Gran was also admitted to hospital earlier this week but will be going into a good nursing home rather than back to their flat when she leaves today or tomorrow. We all knew she was already needing better care than my grandad was too stubborn to allow but the situation with my grandad allowed the family some access to her medical records. Turns out her dementia is quite advanced but Grandad was hushing up the clinical diagnosis of it from the family. She hasn't been told about Grandad just yet but will be later today.

Good thoughts wending their way down to you and your family Gavin. Not an easy time - with either of your grandparents situations. Glad to hear that a nursing home place has been sourced for your grandmother, it is likely to be the best option for her at this point. I hope it turns out to be as good, if not better, a place as the one that my grandfather is currently in.

Karl My mother whose working career has mostly been in Care and Nursing Homes went round a bunch a few days ago and she seems very happy with the one selected. She does however foresee gran becoming one of 'those' types of residents who will make the staff batty...

Working my way through a bit of a dark stage which I'll open up about eventually. I certainly have a good range of support networks that's for sure.

Might I request a small bit of channelling for my extended family. One of my uncles passed away from a heart attack last night, and I've also heard this morning that my grandfather's alzheimers syndrome is deteriorating quite rapidly.
