First Transformer with cool visor/shades look? I'm certain the visor was what inspired Budiansky to write the character the way he did, and how the voice actor got picked for the cartoon.

The choice of alt-mode made it. Before Jazz came out I had quite a few porsche toys that were the same as his alt-mode. It was pretty popular, the bright advertising decals made it stand out.
The visor thing definitely helps, without seeing his eyes it adds something to the look. See Joe Pineapples in the ABC Warriors.

Jazz is mostly cool because of the character. In terms of a toy he is much of a muchness with the other Diaclone cars, but as a character his bio implies that he is the Autobot who most immerses himself in Earth Culture. He's the Autobot that you can talk to and have a half-way chance of a reasonable chance of a common fram of reference.
He is, in short, the Autobot who is most like us.

The toys seems bigger than the real life car. I've seen one & they are small while Jazz toy he is large.

He's white (colour, not race) and white cars are cool.
I've always liked the way the hump over the back wheels, moves forward and flattens out into a wide square front on profile that is curved from above.
snazzy.

I'm doing some renovation again this afternoon and the first thing I have to say is getting a set of stickers perfectly positioned on a Transformer is one of the most satisfying feelings in the world. The scalpel blade precision application method is in operation again and oh my word it feels good to know they're on straight and in the right place. Frighteningly good. Which brings me to a question. Where do some of these damn things go. I've just done reprolabels on a Kickback that never had any, and the ones that go on the top of his feet I've seen applied both ways up in lots of different pictures. I referred eventually with that to the box art and did it that way, but you could do it either way. But I've got two for Tracks that don't appear in pictures often. I'm talking about 1 and 8 in this diagram: So I'm certain they go on the black piece that holds the two rocket launchers, but if you search for G1 Tracks pictures they can turn up anywhere. I've looked at the scan of the instructions on Botch the Crab's website, and I can't see clearly from that either what's what. Anyone got any concrete evidence?

Red. I'm a traditionalist...
And the red breaks up all the yellow of his robot mode. It looks kinda silly in the CW car, but never bothered me in his original form.

Traditional red for me too. But I don't like it on the CW Sunstreaker.

It's red, Phil. No-one in 31 years has ever complained about Sunstreaker's shoulders.

Ever since G2 gave us colour change cars and repaints of existing characters like Sideswipe it has occurred to me that all TFs (or at least the ones that make an attempt at blending in on Earth) should install colour changing nanopaints that enable them to switch colours at will and so lose their pursuers. It's the next step up from rotating number plates and hiding of Autobot insignias.

I had the idea when I was a kid that Prowl would be able to hide his roof-lights and police markings to appear as a civil car for extra disguise. Police cars do rather standout after all.

Prowl has a rubbish disguise mode anyway since I gather the US police never used that model of car. I think Ratchet might have the same problem. And let's not get started on Red Alert... But back on topic... SUNSTREAKER! Does it really matter? Martin
