{Spoiler}I am now utterly convinced that the one who has Prowl and the one Verity runs from are one and the same, namely Carnivac. And not just because I'm a Carnivac fanboy. First page: Arcee's narration about Prowl going missing. The panel which accompanies her saying 'and then he was gone' has a wolf's leg in the foreground. When Verity is running away from *something* we see a wolf's leg stalking her. Both of these panels use foreshortening to hide the size of the wolf.

Read 2! loved the Beast and Eneron characters making an appearance. Of course, with the webbed up Prowl, it makes it a little obvious who's actually behind this!

But I really want to know if my Takotank request last year might have inadvertantly triggered this unexpected direction for a lsotw sequel or if Nicks head was already in in beast space and thats why my takotank looks so frickin awesome? Presumably the latter, but either way, timing.
if only the same had happened when I asked for amtc.
I now want the abandoned ikard sketch he started even more than before, but I suspect I wont now be the only one.

The latest issue was top notch.
A different beast to Last Stand but not less satisfying!

I agree. I was saying this to Billy the other day, who's not been following it, that the pedestal of Last Stand is so high by now that there was simply no way ANYTHING would ever match it. The best thing to do is go into this series with Last Stand set aside in your mind, and simply appreciate it for what it is... and when what it is is still the best TF book on the market right now, that ain't no bad thing. {Obligatory spoilered opinions and speculations:}We all saw him coming, but it's supremely satisfying to see Tarantulas in a book at last. Loving the redesign, too, stripping away the transmetal aspects but keeping that aesthetic. So far he's the only character I genuinely hope makes it through the series, because there is so much potential for a character who is, at his core, a personality fusion of Shockwave and Starscream with a healthy dollop of giggling, slobbering goon.
Carnivac was always going to be a tricky one for me as he's my most beloved character from the MUK material, but I'm nothing but satisfied with his portrayal so far. Not 100% on the redesign, but it will probably grow on me.
We lose our first hero, and in a wholly unexpected manner. People came into this series expecting gratuity, instead we got tenderness.
My speculation about 'the specimine' still holds its ground after the reading of the issue; that it will turn out to be Springer. I think they may be trying to set up Impactor as a red herring for this, with his as yet unexplained knowledge of Mesothulas and the Noise Maze. I think that not for nothing was Hubcap, who has now been revealed to be in cahoots with Tarantulas, was in close proximity to Springer during his recovery. Did Tarantulas put him there? Does that mean that Tarantulas has suspiscions about who the Specimine became, and his display of anger was more out of frustration that Prowl would lie to him? Or is Hubcap part of a triple cross, placed beside Springer to ensure Tarantulas doesn't get near him? Definitely looking forward to seeing how this plays out.
I think we'll be saying goodbye to Verity this series, and I'm kinda okay with that. The events of IDW's Transformers books have changed so radically that she really has no place in it any more. I just hope Magnus finds out about it.
Finally, I kind of want IDW to be brave enough to actually kill Prowl off in this series. He's been the driving force of everything in the books for the last six or seven years, directly or otherwise, and I'm just tired of him now. The series already hinted at his desire to repent, but with the sins he's commited there is no repentance. Not unless he dies revealing what was on that drive to his whole race, and taking responsibility for all of it. And not even that would rebalance the scales.

{Further...}The specimine referenced in issue 3 is given the name 'Ostaros'. This is probably derived from Ostara, the SPRING equinox, so I'm now convinced that he became Springer. He DEFINITELY has his chin. But why? Nothing that Prowl and Tarantulas worked together on had entirely pure intentions. Well, it has often been referenced since Last Stand that Springer has 'Matrix Blue' eyes which has led to speculation that he might possess Matrix Affinity. Is it possible that the plan was for Prowl and Tarantulas to create their own Matrix-bearer? Tarantulas also mentions that he was the one who originally developed the 'Overmind' technology Prowl would later use to control Kup, but disappeared long before the need for it within Kup would arise. Springer has often been described as the most charismatic, moral, strong, and all around most-Autobot-like Autobot ever to lead a black ops squadron. So Prowl and Tarantulas created Ostaras as an experimenting in creating a king that they could control, and when it came to the moment that Prowl was in position to destroy him he couldn't bring himself to do it because of the enormous tactical advantages he represented. So he stole him away and made him Springer. Hell, maybe he even transplanted part of his own personality into it, the 'weak' part, the decency, the compromise... the Hero.
