I never do displays. I just chuck things on shelves! -Ralph This. Closest I have ever come to an organised display was building some new shelves and all my animated went on it. Because thats what I had been buying and had nowhere to put it. Even then Rock Lords Solitaire and a few other things quickly snuck on to it.

Depends on space I think. I'm limited on space at the moment (pending moving my study into the larger front bedroom) so I rotate smaller displays on the shelves I have. Look at the space you've got, look at the toys you've got, look for themes or groups and fit them in the space you have. If there are too many, give it six months then swap them over. Example: I've just packed up all my Generations Wreckers in the hope TR gives us the Jumpstarters at some point so I can get them back out and have a near complete team. In their place I decided to celebrate the movie anniversary and got all the G1 movie wave out. I'm limited on the space I have for my display but in the limited space I've managed to fit about 30 shelves, split between some shelving units and wall shelves. 10 of the shelves are massive and 2 will probably be left empty for TR. I think I'll empty the shelves then group them like you've suggested. That'll make it easier to know what needs to be spaced out.

I almost have a Masterpiece section of a shelf, except for Gears and some lego and Kreons (in fairness they scale really well, well the human ones). And I do have a classic Prime mould line up, all the versions of the mould apart from the recent platinum and, well the only Japanese one I have is Crystal Convoy, honestly that side of it got away from me. That set is mirrored by Bludgeon, Banzaitron, Megatron and Overlord tank mould.

I never do displays. I just chuck things on shelves! -Ralph That's what I've been doing. I buy stuff, it builds up, I buy new shelves, stuff gets thrown on the shelves, I buy more stuff. It's now got to the stuff where everything is piled on top of each other unopened so you can't actually see any of it and there's stuff I want to open that I can't get near. And now I have 3 or 4 boxes in the living room as well as Armada (Tidal) Shockwave, Takara MP Grimlock, Takara MP Sunstorm, 2 CW combined bots, Kreo Sentinel Prime and SDCC Platinum Dinobots taking up the dinner table. It's the first time Mrs B has nagged me to do something with toys I've bought. Not to sell them, just to get them out the way.

A big thanks to Nick for venturing into the no longer accessible Loft of Joy yesterday and stashing a large number of items for me.
A new Evar unit arrive this week. It's gone into the area to the right of the door in the library. On it have gone the five boxes, now multiplied to six, that were on the wardrobe possibly permanently but there will be a discussion about that when the new wardrobe goes in!
Also on the unit are two boxes, soon to three (and possibly FOUR) of Combiner Wars combiners.
That leaves one free shelf where the Titans Returns toys will go.
Unfortunately during the moving of the boxes, and in particular the dividing of the RiD/Movie/Unicron Trilogy box I discovered I'm missing a deluxe Unicron tank blade and it's driving me mad as to where it is now!

What's an Evar unit? I am still trying to turn my office room from a dumping ground of 80 litre tubs into something approaching organisation.

That looks interesting. I need something like that down one wall. I had something similar in my old bedroom that I constructed myself out of cheap pine shelving units from Argos, but the spacing on that is the wrong size to fit the tubs. It was only a year or two back I did a big resort/retidy of all my Transformers, but the last couple of years have been pretty heavy purchase-wise and I'm in a pickle again.

The uprights have two rows of holes down the inner edge so on can form the end of one unit and the start of the next.

The uprights have two rows of holes down the inner edge so on can form the end of one unit and the start of the next. I used to have a set of this. Four uprights with two columns of narrow shelves and some longer ones in between. Very useful and flexible. Took it apart and reassembled it numerous times between many flat changes. Only got rid of it recently after about ten years.

That is a thing I shall keep in mind for a year or two's time I think. Not now - any furniture I acquire at the moment is only going to have to be moved again once I finally sell my current place and settle properly elsewhere. But once I am firmly ensconsed those look like the sort of shelving which might prove useful. (Always assuming I don't just say "hang it all" and go with detolfs for display purposes.

I actually threw out some Armada boxes the other week. During my mass rearrangement of everything there were three I couldn't fit in the Armada big box. They were discarded because for some reason I didn't have the plastic inserts and so couldn't refix the toys inside them (all my other Armada boxed toys are back tied in their boxes if they had them). So now Megatron, Tidal Wave and Starscream no longer have boxes.
It was tough, but I managed it.

As an aside I may be unusual in that I have never ever went in for organised shelves of toys. The point utterly eludes me. They go in random places.

I kinda get it. I wouldn't mix Generations with G1, but I've no problems standing Classics Bumblebee next to TR Twinferno.

Character interaction, Doctor! A MP Bumblebee cannot interact (ie play) with a delux Generations/Classics Megatron (for example)! IT'S JUST WRONG!!!!

While Classics Bumblebee is a better toy, MP bumblebee is a better size for Classics that it is for MP, being scout sized, and all. It does have a hideously ugly headsculpt, though.

I currently have this year's acquisitions so far all sat next to me happily together (RID / TR / MP / TLK), and it's fine!
I find most Transformers shelf displays gaudy and incoherent, even if they are made up of a line with a consistent aesthetic like Animated, so I'd rather stick a handful of random ones together that look interesting.

The MP cassettes work obscenely well with classics. I've heard that MP Star Saber does will with classics. And The Angry One personally demands to be with G2. But that's one of those odd situations where it's hard to eff up a G2 shelf.
