Interesting. So if the blue parts are the remoulded ones, then they've made cosmetic changes for the sake of it to the thighs and sides of the lower legs just because those bits are on the same sprue as the new waist?

I'm tempted to give it a few weeks in the hopes of word of a red-headed variant coming down the pipeline, but Takara are so cartoon-focussed that I think I might have to put my faith in Shapeways.

Anyone on the fence about this guy? If so, let me tell you a very short and to the point tale.
I loved Ironhide, it was easily one of the best MP's released in the new Autobot cars range, but Ratchet, is somehow even better. The colour just works, the accessories are fantastic. Buy it.

G1 Ratchet was my first TF so this guy is a dream come true.
Oh - and then there was Warrior School from Marvel.

Shoulder first aid symbols are stickers. Didn't realise this!
Little warning, mine has a little paint wear on one of the front side indicators. It also came with a bit of fine dust on the medical bay platform. Makes me wonder how much is on other figures, but we don't notice because they're not as white as this figure.

I can say that the cardboard box holding the Ratchet box looks good.

Ok ok.
So, although I still haven't opened the package that the box is in, I can tell you that he's not alone. He's in there with TFC Cerebus or not-Victory Jagular. I also looked at as many pictures on the internet as I could. He looks nice and probably is.

Finally got him out of the box and in action. So: his transformation is possibly the most unexpected and ingenious thing since MP-01, which was rather simple by comparisson but still quite a pleasant shock . I just can't beliece they managed to do this without making him chock full of breakage. The robot mode is great and given his height I'd say he deserves to be important. All of his tools and weapons are swell too. I did not use any stickers because the Ratchet I remember didn't have anything beyond the Autobot symbol.
My latest photocomic should be ready soon.
I will still use Prime deluxe Ratchet though...as PharmaFixit or Ambulon (RID Fixit is Borehole in my book, looks nothing like Fixit! So no waste!
