No! It is the biggest arm in the world ever! See how it dwarfs the enormous Max box!

Absolutely convinced the shoulder ramps are the wrong length, and not just because they have trouble reach Blaster etc when connected.
They don't to cover the shoulder either, they probably ought to stretch front to back..
If you look on the rear of the shoulder ramps there's a slot and that I think should go over the unused tab sticking out the shoulder

Do Max's leg's open up like Metroplex's? The toyhax photos suggest you can get inside to find Metroplex's repair bays. I can see a hinge, but I can't seem to get them open and don't want to force it.
Strikes me the Takara transform instructions are pretty light on explaining what this chap can do.

Max's in general do but it appears the Takara version's legs are more securely attached together possible involving glue. I've heard several people saying they can't open them and nobody reporting success yet.
I am trying to review the toy. It is taking time, writing about the base mode turned into a "giving it both barrels" experience.

That's interesting to know. I look forward to your review; having had a play myself I'm feeling a little underwhelmed. Only a little. I think he's an essential part of the Titans line, and will be brilliant with all the little Titanmasters dotted about on him, but the problem is that Metroplex stole the wow factor for a figure like this. I've been thinking about the new Diaclone line, how that is purpose built around being vehicles and accessories for the little men, and Titans Return seems a kind of half-way house. It doesn't truly feel like a series based around the Titanmasters because it also has to cater for being a Transformer line. I'm not saying I want it to be like Diaclone, I'm a TF fan.
Is the pod on his leg supposed to do anything? what's the circular hole in the top for? I'm guessing it's just a 5mm port which will accept the Titanmaster vehicles in 'weapon' mode for the little chaps to sit in?

It's on a mushroom peg. It slides off backwards to become an independent vehicle. The underside is Metroplex's flip up shoulder cannon.
I love him and think he's better than Metroplex yet I'm struggling to say a kind word about him. Everytime I write something it seems to moan that something's wrong.
It doesn't help that he's being compared to not one but two toys, Max and T30 Metroplex.

He's a better toy than Metroplex because of the increased playability he has, but Metroplex has a better city mode because he extends and opens up more. I need to get Metroplex out again. Some more thought was needed on the legs to see how they could be made to more resemble the original Max in city mode. It's also a shame that to have Fortress stand next to the city means removing the tower.

I have to say, I bought some batteries the day after I got him, but haven't yet bothered putting them in. I've gone a bit cold on him. Almost considered selling him actually, but I do want a Titanmaster base.

If you have the SDCC version he plays the transformers theme if you hold his button down.
He's an absolutely crap base but amazing in giant robot mode.

Mine's the Takara version. Even the draw of the Headmasters theme hasn't stirred me into action. He is amazing in giant robot mode, but then so was Metroplex and there's only cosmetic difference between them. I want to be in awe of him, I thought I was a for a bit, but... I dunno. I'm having more fun with the deluxes.

The odds of it turning up at UK retail is so remote I don't have to make any decision about buying it.
I think for TR I am sticking with the Titanmasters as they are fun, small and cheap. TR as a whole I think looks great but otherwise I shall restrict myself from the other size classes to whatever turns up in sales that coincide with spare penny capacity.

I can't see this mentioned upthread: Max's Chest Compartment serves as a Titans Return tape deck! The chest compartment I found annoying to start with: it's slightly too narrow for Spychanger Optimus Prime/ Scourge, frequent occupants of Brave Max, to stand in and face straight forward. The reason for this only became obvious when I saw a picture in a photo gallery: by accident or design, and I'm suspecting design, the slot is exactly the same width and just slightly taller than a Titans Return "tape". One tape fits in the space with it's front face level with the outer edge of Max's chest before the door closes. It can't recess any further due to a rounded piece of plastic projecting out of the base of the compartment. This allow you to push in on the base of the tape causing the top to pop out for easy removal. Failing that, pop open the ramp on Max's left shoulder and push the tape out from behind.

Huh, I didn't see that coming! And at only £100 too. Seems to be doing the opposite of all other UK TF pricing! Madness!! Extra glad I got the SDCC version now!

The deposit from my old flat should be back this week. Ralph and Phil were bad people for showing me this earlier in the day. The other half has been shown and told what a surprisingly low price this is.
A Maximus on sale in the UK...
