Thanks to Christmas and New Years post, I just had a months worth of Rock Lords lots from ebay waiting for me on my doorstep. Sorting the wheat from the chaff now. Some are in better shape than I was hoping, some in worse. Do I want to start collecting the weapon colour variants or is that just too insane? Best one of the bunch is a very nice Nugget; just a small scuff on his chest. All the others I've found have been heavily moulting!

Oh, and some sweet Rock Lords! I never did get to watching the film. Maybe this weekend.

They do seem to retain their chrome well from your photos. Or is it that no one ever played with them?

You must collect the weapon colour variants, Blueshift. -Ralph I have discovered a Pulver-Eyes colour varient! One is marked Japan, the other Macau, but I don't think it's the Japanese version as I have a few from the same lot marked Japan who aren't Japanese colours.

In case this is useful to Blue on his quest: Transformerland's update this week had a load of Rock Lords in with it. www.transformerland.com/store/gobots/rock-lords/I've used this company before, they're good. Postage is charged at cost and they list the packet contents low enough to avoid CUTA.

Those are very reasonable prices, though I'm sure they won't be after shipping to the UK!! Rock Lord wise, the net price I'm aiming for (after postage) is: Series 1-2 £5 each, £10 with weapons (though I've managed to get most of the ones with weapons for a bit less) I went higher to get a nice Nugget and Slimestone as they're solid chrome. Annoyingly it's impossible to tell just how much chrome wear those Transformerland ones have as Slimestone just doesn't photograph well (his chrome looks identical to the white plastic underneath in a photo) Not even thought about getting weaponed ones for the rest because... man! Series 3 £10 (Market price on these is more like £15 but with patience and by getting them in lots I've got at one of each, even if Spearhead is in shoddy condition) Rock Monsters £5Jewel Lords £10-£20 (with Solitare firmly at the upper end of that limit and the other two at the mid/lower) Shock Rocks series 1 - This is where it gets interesting. I don't want to pay more than a tenner for them. I've found the one who throws the ball for that, but the only Rock Roller I've ever seen is a terrible one for £15 on ebay, and the cheapest Stone Hook I've seen is £25. I think I need to be patient. Shock Rocks series 2 - Again my aim is £10 each but the market price seems to be more around £25, though there's been some cheap auctions in the past I've just missed. Vehicles - No idea. The only plane I saw I let slip for £7 and since then I've not seen a single one! The only good guy vehicle I've seen is an unsold one for £50 which is way too high as it looks horrid. Frankly I don't think I could bear to pay more than £10 for these as they're not great. Low priority! Fossil Lord Combiner - The boxed version seems to go for circa £180-220 depending on condition. I let a loose one slip from my fingers for £70. Narlies series 1 - These seem to be everywhere. Aiming for £5 max though I've only found one at that price, but the thing about Narlies is when they pop up, no-one really knows what they are. Narlies series 2 - Rare as hens teeth (I see Transformerland's one is $80. I got the two I have for £20 which I feel is a more reasonable price, if one I'll never get again!! That giant wheeled Narlie thing - I'll never find one, so no point setting a budget there! It feels like I've got most of the easy ones, it's a case of keeping my eyes peeled for the rarer ones and getting nicer versions of some of the more beat up ones. I've not even thought about getting into Japanese variants yet! Maybe get the ones where the decos are dramatically different, though I've only ever seen them for sale once.

I wonder what the going rate is for the Japanese variants. They come up for sale so rarely. Kicking myself in retrospect for not bidding on a few Japanese lots back in October, they're the only ones I've ever seen. Of course, one of the variants is a Slimestone, and its hard enough finding a Western release one which isn't chrome worn. I now have a mostly pristine Slimestone and Nugget, though also a pretty trashed Slimestone and Nugget. I wonder what they'd look like if I tried to spraypaint them silver/gold. Probably awful. You can't really disassemble them either as they use a lot of rivets in their construction.

I still have the really poor condition Rock Roller I had at AA. (If I had it at AA) Scuffed everywhere and the mechanism is broken, but you are welcome to it if you have no luck finding a half decent one. At least once I have finished a little project I have in mind.
It has the best expression.
Really annoyingly I have seen that stone wing vehicle once or twice at car boot sales but had no idea what it was.
Will keep more of an eye out this year.

Dean and Nick were having a terrifying talk about variants at RORC. I have discovered what the deal is with my Pulver-Eyes! Basically we know the Japanese Boulder variant had a different skin tone (more 'fleshy') as well as different paint apps. I've compared my Japan stamped Boulder to my Macau stamped boulder and found their skin tones differ, and more importantly, match the type of plastic used on Pulver-Eyes. Now, I don't have an actual Japanese Blastrock to compare, but I'm pretty sure that the Rock Lords made in the Japanese factory for Western release used the same plastic for Boulder/Pulver-Eyes, hence the difference.

Yeah it sounded a lot like that. I see I have been missing out on some hot hot Rock Lord variant discussion by not attending RORC!! I'm told that the Japanese Crackpot plastic colour is different to the Western release, but I've never seen a Japanese one to compare. Oddly enough though, the plastic on my one stamped 'Japan' is identical to the one marked 'Macau' which is the opposite situation to Boulder/Pulver-Eyes.
