TFN 2016: Rock Lords Fanzine

2016 is the 30th anniversary of the greatest cartoon of all time about transforming robots. Yes, Gobots: Battle of the Rock Lords.

We will be creating a Rock Lords fanzine to be given away free at the Toy-Fu stall at TF Nation this year. This will serve two purposes:
1 - Show everyone how cool Rock Lords are and what fools they are for denying them.
2 - Use it to advertise Toy Fu's charitable aims and hopefully draw people to the stall a bit more as well.

The fanzine will be black and white, approx 24 pages, and I hope to get a colour cover done too. But I need you (YES YOU) to help! No excuses!

The contents need to be fun and a little self-knowing about how silly Rock Lords are, but not mocking of Rock Lords!

Anything is on the table! Below are what people are already doing/ideas for more content. Ideally I'd like everyone to contribute in some way.

Each item will probably be 1-2 pages A5 as space is limited, so it's not a massive amount of work.


In progress:

• Profiles
• The Science of Rock Lords
• Comic strip - Andy T
• Cover -It should be to do with the 30th anniversary of Rock Lords, like all the good and bad guys having a birthday party. Will be looking to do this in colour, I can colour if needs be. - Matt Dallas
• Middle - A4 lanscape pull-out poster for the middle with a battle featuring all of the Rock Lords ever (I dont think this has ever been done, thus an artistic challenge!) - Bogatan
• Letters page - All answered in-character. It was suggested that Jawbone be the letter-answerer, so we'd need someone to answer the letters as Jawbone and people to write in with their rock-lord related questions (only short ones, there isn't that much space!) - Pinwig
• Rock Paper Scissors - a colour-in and cut-out activity page! - kinjacono
• Text story - me
• Memories of watching the movie - Ralph

Ideas:

• Toy reviews
• Movie review
• Alternate uses for a Rock Lord
• A deeply touching personal piece about how Rock Lords changed your life
• Anything else! As long as it's fun and/or interesting!

• Image of Jawbone opening a letter for the letters page - O'Hagan?
• TFU-style profile art of rock lord and rock modes for Spearhead and Rock Roller - O'Hagan?
• More bits and bobs as we work out what will be in it, I'm sure we can fit in any Rock Lord related art anyone wants to come up with

Does this mean we would need to extend the remit to all rock-based toylines and cartoons??

Edit: I feel that extending it to all ores might dilute the Rock Lord content too heavily, as the page count will be likely low as I am cheap.
I can see a He-Man Rock Guys vs Rock Lords article though.

What about a cooking page with Rock Lord related recipes.

Someone can review the movie! And we could actually title that a review of the entire Rock Lords show, as that's all they made!

No no, it is real! Honest!

I will coordinate the creation of it. I will have a think this weekend on the best way to do this to give everyone who wants to submit something a chance. I don't want to create something massive (and expensive to print!) so we'll probably limit people to 1-2 pages depending on what they want to do, and focus on a variety of interesting things not just stories.

Movie review
Rock Lord facts
Rock Lord Recipes.

I want a LETTERS page too, so once we work out who will be answering it, everyone can submit a letter! Who should be answering the letters??

No-one knows anything about Rock Lords. Who will be able to tell?? This is why this is such a great idea.

Oh, see, I know so little that I didn't know there wasn't anything to know. Is there any kind of fiction at all? was there ever a comic or toy tech specs or anything like that? is it just the Gobots movie?

Basically there was the one movie; the toys had little bios, there were two pack-in minicomics and about 7 pages worth of comic strips in the Gobot magazine (I have recently acquired scans of these).

Frankly if you tell people Rock Lords were all made of spam, most people would probably accept this as fact
