AND OH MY GOD THAT PICTURE IS AMAZING!!!! TYRPTICON IS SO ENORMOUS!!!! I THOUGHT HE WAS GOING TO BE SMALLER... DUE TO THE EXTRA BULK... BUT OH MY GOD!!!! I am going to buy this now. Very impressive. He is going to be smaller. That photographer manipulated angles to make them look equal.

IMPOSSIBLE!!!!!
No I had wondered. Thanks CJ. It's just he is larger than I expected despite the dodgey photography. I'd thought he'd be a stumpy fellow.

I believe he's equal to, or a bit shorter than CW Devastator.

Shockprowl, Rough estimate, but looks to be about accurate based on everything we've seen with leaders in his display, and with that takara metroplex pic.

Thanks CJ, darling. Yes, I think he'll do. I think he's the size we were expecting.

It does when you're a fuck-off giant bastard transforming dinosaur Titan-Master squashing murder beast.
Bigger the better, Doc'. Believe you me, 'learned that the hard way, I did.

Hasbro have said 20 inches tall, so there may be a bit of angle manipulation going on there given Metroplex is 24, but even so, they're going to look amazing.

Takara are sticklers for cartoon accuracy. It'll be Sunbow colours. Which varies to be fair, but is probably a shade darker than the Hasbro toy/s.

This is well worth a look as there's some new features we've not seen previously: the fold up front of the base, the fold down ramp and how the hips work. Base ramp connectors on the heel spurs, which end up mid side bit in base mode. Is this the finished Takara version? I'm not seeing a lot of differences.

Would I be considered overly critical if I said I didn't like it on account of the fact that it looks like a shoebox with limbs and a head?
If there wasn't a healthy dollop of nostalgia, where would we stand on it?

I'd still like it, I think. I'm a fan of the Godzilla giant monster movies anyway, and this dude tick those boxes. And he eats people! Always good.
I'm no stickler for making things look like what dinosaurs are supposed to look like (certainly for nostalgic updates), and this guy is a Transformer Kaiju, so all the accuracy rules go out the window anyway. He's a giant city stomping monster who eats people and transforms into a spaceship to fly off and find more cities to eat. There is nothing bad about this!
And I much prefer the kinda boxy aesthetic from the 80's and early 90's for my robots. It ticks all the boxes for me.

Aye, he's not a dinosaur. He's a kaiju. Thus While I would have enjoyed a redesign (akin to 90s american godzilla), unlike the dinobots it's not a necessity.

I think he looks good. I don't mind that he has a unique appearance. The only thing missing from the modern line to me is variety. Put several waves of deluxes on a shelf and fundamentally they look the same. Same shape, size, finish. Put CW Dead End next to TR Hot Rod and there's no difference, but put the G1 equivalents next to each other and there's variety.

If there wasn't a healthy dollop of nostalgia, where would we stand on it? I wouldn't. It's spiky. Looks like it would hurt. That aside, I like the fact that it's bulky. It needs that kind of heft to make it look big. And that's one of the reasons I don't like Generations Metroplex - because he doesn't have enough heft; Metroplex does not look convincingly like a walking city. Trypticon does. And yeah. He eats people and he's robot Godzilla. Boxes? Ticked.

I'm not saying he shouldn't look bulky, just less like a box with limbs!

I'm not saying he shouldn't look bulky, just less like a box with limbs! I do get what you mean, the cut off tail and zero attempt at phasing the head down to the square torso throw it off a bit. If the shoulders were rounded or the tail tapered down more to a point then it would smooth it out, as it is there's a touch of 'rectangle with a head plopped on' look about it. I don't think it makes it unappealing though, there's enough detail on there to take your eyes away from it. I think they've actually done a great job in making me want to part with £200 for something I've just called a rectangle with a head plopped on. That might say more about me, mind you.

Riiight.
So, from this we learn Trypticon can eat 28 Titanmasters at once, and he can... do the funky chicken?
How can you have that in front of you and not transform it?!
