This is one of the signs of the apocalypse! I had long assumed the master tapes were scrubbed/gone as nothing had ever appeared. This is fabulous news. Now I know this material still exists I am very interested in how the remaster job will be done.
Take my money, Sony!

I'll have this for sure, but I can't help but feel for the enormous ongoing fan project to restore the audio.

They did a decent job, probably someone in an official capacity was watching and saw the demand and thought let's do it properly.

Sounds strangely similar to the Star Wars album that recently came out with bands doing 'themed' songs.

No, it was said to be for early Summer 2016 but nothing since that round of news features.

I don't want a Blu-Ray. I want a CD -or proper audio format.

Which I think is what the general reaction to that release has been. It's vague though. It talks about box sets and multiple tv series... maybe it'll be a CD per series with a blu-ray for the extras? When does anyone release music as a blu-ray? makes no sense.
That said, it wouldn't be too hard to extract the audio from the blu-ray and turn it into a proper CD.

Course it also means unless it's region free, it won't play on UK players, and what chance is there of a UK release of something like this? nil.

I'd buy it on both, if it's not silly money. I'd prefer a CD first though. At least I can get mp3's from a CD.

Wait, is this vinyl only? 2000 limited edition?
Surely a standard CD release makes sense too?

I assume it's release the limited edition LP first, build hype and demand, then bring out shiny discs.

I don't get the logic of making something deliberately hard to get when there is a demand. Maybe they think only a couple of thousand people would be interested. I'd buy a vinyl version to go with the movie soundtrack, but I'm not going to go out of my way to try and find it.
Not to release a CD version would be ludicrous given the time that has gone in to preparing this.

It doesn't take a genius to figure out that, by limiting it to x copies on vinyl, all that will happen is it'll be online for free via youtube or some other platform within a matter of days of its release.

The three limited LPs are on sale now. Prime and Megatron versions have sold out at the store selling them, but the Bumblebee one is available here: www.thinkgeek.com/product/koig/Just bought one. It comes to $39.73 with economy shipping to the UK (risky for an LP perhaps). The payment hasn't been taken yet, but looks like it'll be about £29.

Not to release a CD version would be ludicrous given the time that has gone in to preparing this. I suspect that they are hoping to get the opportunity to declare that this "sold out on the week of release" or whatever. Which is the sort of thing that music companies like to tout as a fantastic statistic (even when it is functionally meaningless for most purposes these days). I'm not interested in this. I don't have any method of playing the little vinyl I do have (several Disney LP's from my childhood, a couple of Goons LPs that were my fathers, and Kate Bush's Never for Ever - which I bought "because it is there" at a carboot sale not long after getting rid of my record player. Hardly the daftest thing that I've done for Kate's voice mind you. :-) ) I'm sure there will be a CD or digital release of this at some point in the future. It is not like Sony is daft or anything.
