I was surprised I was the only one using my Mii. You don't have to get that far in to unlock it.

Tried to get the game at the weekend but every shop I tried either had it out of stock or they couldn't be bothered to stock it (step forward the anti-Nintendo store Dixons Currys.digital).

I've won all the GPs, just gotta go back and star them up. Which I won't be able to do on 150cc or mirror mode.

Yeah... The problem with 150cc and mirror is that getting first is so random.
Oh look at that, I'm leading the race for nearly 3 laps... Oh sheez, blue shell, red shell, blue shell. Great.
Now we must discuss car tactics.
At the moment I'm pimping Mii Outfit B in the Turbo Blooper. This serves me well on 150cc and Mirror.
For most time trials though, I go heavy. Funky Kong in the Dragonetti or Flame Flyer.
I hate bikes in GP or multiplayer. Not really used them in time trials.

Geez I haven't even started 100cc yet, let alone completed everything. I've done quite a bit of time trials, but it's really been random. Need to play more.

Now we must discuss car tactics. I haven't touched the karts. Use Koopa Trooper or Dry Bones and the Bubblebike mostly. Funky Kong and Twinkle Star or Wario Bike if I want to go heavy. Although I think I've unlocked some other heavy bikes, so I need to give them a go. I'll try out karts for the time trials, there's some tracks I just cannot play and will have difficultly unlocking ghosts. |

Ooop... Got * rank or better in 50cc and 100cc. This is going to be frustrating now I've moved onto 150cc.

I've got Gold medals in almost every single cup in 50cc, 100cc and 150cc but I've only managed silver or bronze on about four of the cups on 150cc so, no Mirror Mode for me just yet.
I am a bit pissed off with the cheating involved in 150cc though. Many times I have had a blue shell whacked at me when I'm just two yards away from winning a race and wound up finishing in fourth. I have also had lighting bolts strike me mid jump over some of the Bowser Castle ramps, green shells that have been fired at me with precission accuracy, red shells that have gone straight though a banana skin or shell I'm hanging from the back of my kart or bike and opponents making a special effort to barge me off track on elevated tracks like Bowsers Castle or Rainbow Road. Talking about Rainbow Road twice now I have fell through a fence near the end of a lap and down into the abyss below instead of just hitting the fence.

I'm terrible at Rainbow Road. Playing mirror mode and I came first in the other 3 races, but dead last in Rainbow Road, but luckily still enough points to win overall.
And, I managed to escape a blue shell using a mushroom just as it dived into the ground. The mushroom accelerated me away from the explosion, but it's very much the sort of move that I couldn't do again if I tried.

Right. Decided to get 2* or better on 50cc and 100cc before moving onto the frustration that is 150cc and Mirror * modes.
Done that tonight. Yay.

Man you guys are way ahead of me. I spend practically every moment playing Time Trial trying to beat the latest ghost challenge I got, often spending an hour or so just on one time. I got a good enough time to beat the expert ghost on Shy Guy Beach last night but I wasn't actually racing him so I don't think it counts. D'oh!

Finally unlocked Mirror Mode a couple of nights ago and am now slowly working my way through it. It's only a mirrored version of 100cc but the main challenge is to turn right instead of left and vice versa. Many times in previous Mario Kart games I've turned the opposite way on suspended couses and fell into water, lava or thin air.

Really? I thought the it was 150cc with harder AI too, but y'know, I'll pass judgement once I've tried to get ** on mirror.

It's definetely 100cc because the AI isn't as difficult as 150cc. Plus, the icon for Mirror Mode shows two mushrooms in front of a mirror indicating that its a mirrored version of 100cc.

I just checked it and there's 3 mushrooms on the mirror mode, and 1 and bit reflected. So 150cc it is. Didn't feel slow enough to be 100cc. Anyway, I've got my * on 100cc now, so on to 150cc... |

ARGGGHHGAHHGhhaHGHHGHGHHGHHHHH. Was trying for ages to get ** on the 3rd Wii cup (with Daisy Circuit etc) with Funky Kong and eventually thought, I'll give it a go with Birdo in a medium kart with super handling so chose the Royal Racer. Two attempts in and I *** that mother. Also... I went real karting today. Woo. That was fun but I did miss the powerslides and shells  |

Logged on last night to find that Jaymz was in a worldwide vs. race and decided to wait until he had finished to see if I could have a little runaround with him. Unfortunatly, BT Internet cut me off a few seconds later - the bastards. Fortunatly though, it wasn't during a race or otherwise I may have been accused of being a bad sportsman.
I haven't unlocked Birdo or Funky Kong yet - how do you unlock them?

I was only on for a few races, I'm on at random times, just jump in whenever if you see me.
Birdo you just have to set times on 16 different time trial courses.
Funky Kong you have to unlock 4 expert times on time trial. Which is easier than it sounds, you just have to beat the ghost it gives you by a few seconds.
Rosalina was the annoying one for me, had to borrow Super Mario Galaxy from a friend to get her.

Thanks for that Jaymz. I haven't even been on Time Trial yet so I'll make that a priority next time I've got the game on.
Yesterday, I managed to upgrade all of my rankings on 50cc to a star or double star except for the Special Cup.

You can also get Birdo by 'winning' 250 online games. Easier than it sounds as you get one win for every other racer you beat in one race.
I don't know how you guys can be bothered to get *'s on the GPs. I can barely bring myself to beat 100cc as online is pretty much the same thing but 1000 times more fun.
I've now spent about 8 hours solely doing time trials on SNES Mario Circuit 3. Me and a friend keep one-upping each other and every time he beats my time I spend another hour beating his. I reckon I could shave another 2 seconds off my current record of 1:27:something. I'll never beat the world record of 1:20:something though.

Also Time Trials has always been my favourite MK thing as once you are done with the GP in the old games that's all you've got left besides multiplayer, which obviously you can't play on your own.

Yay, I now have * rank in all cups. Not sure I can be bothered to get the ** in the 8 or so cups I don't have it in.
If you're having trouble in 150cc and Mirror, try automatic mode. The increased handling really helps your routes through corners and as such keep to track.
