Okay chaps, I really enjoyed making the fanzine for TFN this year, and really want to do one next year too (especially because I have lots of expensive stuff lying about my flat that needs to be used to justify the purchasing!!) SO: 1 - Are people up for this? and 2 - What shall it be about? Can we use this thread to talk about doing a 2017 fanzine (I know it's a long way away but time does fly) and if so, what it should be about? Also it would help us if we decided early as not to step on TFN's toes in case they are doing anything. 2017 is the (if my maths is correct): - 30th anniversary of Headmasters
- 15th anniversary of Armada
- 10th anniversary of the movie
Would one of those be a good subject, or something else entirely? My gut instinct is towards Armada as Headmasters is too cool again and the Movie is the movie, but I am willing to be lead! And also Toy Fu has two binbags full of Armada lunchboxes.

20th anniversary of BW cartoon too
But Armada is a good bet, especially if the Fu can assemble some Armada toys to sell.
I'd be up for doing a toy something for that

Armada has the benefit of having a toyline, a comic, a cartoon all of which have been unfairly maligned over time so all are ripe for a robust defence or a good kicking.

We could take the opportunity to do a follow on to your best known work!

I'd love to be involved.
But I'd also say it depends what kind of content you want for the zine. If it's primarily toy articles and episode guides type stuff then Armarda makes sense. If you want TMUK universe text and strip stories then I'd say Headmasters makes more sense because it's there already.
I guess we could write some fanfic spinning out of the DW comics, which I remember as being ok. Personally, anything that would require watching the Armada cartoon for research would feel much too close to being a chore to be any fun.

Well just like the Rock Lords fanzine, I think the key is variety. So not flooding it with text-based stuff but lots of things, sensible and silly. And for something like Armada there are so many parallel continuities that I wouldn't worry about needing to watch the cartoon (though an article in defence of the cartoon could be fun), there's nothing a skim of TF Wiki couldn't fix.

JaAm Hotshot breaks through the dimensional barrier and finds himself in the Star Dub cartoon universe.
Just saying.

There really does need to be a jAaM 2 comic strip, doesn't there!
Also a recipe page.

I like to write 'sensible' stories (I never really get on with straight-up silly) so when a decision on topic is made, I'll do some research and try to offer you a story in that mode.

How about "Time Team"ing a cartoon episode?

Count me in! I think Armada (with the tone of the Rock Lords Fanzine) will work very well. Armada is a bit silly (small cranes and jets attached to cars etc which people at the time thought was cool but I thought was absurd) and of course to a lot of fans it is their G1.
The toys should be easy to amass for Toy Fu. I think it should be purely Armada though, without branching into Energon & Cybertron - there would be enough things to cover.
And I'd love I'd love to help draw a new strip about jAAm (or whatever).

OKAY and here is a FRICKING CRAZY idea that I think is amazing.
What if there was a separate TINY (ie A8 size) fanzine that went alongside it that acted as a Mini-con and POWERED UP each page with bonus content??? It could also attach to the cover!

I was going to suggest Battle Beasts because I thought they were 30 next year, but I see its actually this. Their TF connection is also slender, but it just kept to Blueshift's desire to do 'niche'. However, Armada was a passion of mine so I'm well up for that.

Given the UK comic got cancelled, just as the story was about to get good, an idea occurs to me. Basically a riff on Duck Amuck with the Armada cast.
They are fighting against the impending menace, which they think is Unicron but turns out to be the big editor's pencil and the cancellation of said comic.

Battle Beasts is a great idea - dare I say it (and I think I dare)I like the idea much than Armada. Connected to Transformers but not something everyone knows a huge deal about. And completely bonkers. Not as easy to find to sell at Toy Fu though.

Toy Fu have a grand total of one Battle Beast that has been a friendly face at the last 2-3 years worth of cons. Also they don't turn into anything! (I am so excited about my minicon-fanzine idea, don't break this for me guys!!!)

I'd quite like a few BB so if Toyfu found some they'd have at least one buyer.

That ending works for me. The last panel is the kid turning to their own piece of paper and starting their own tale.

Yep - I remember buying Battle Beasts alongside Throttlebots and M.U.S.C.L.E men back in '87 when I was allowed to go into town for the first time on my own!
But if it's to be an Armada 'Zine that will still be fun so count me in!
(Going off to play with my Battle Beasts...)

If you go with Armada, then count me in to draw Prime for you. Probably my favourite Prime design that was entirely disconnected from G1.

I think I'm down for this. Hopefully I won't be battered by Real Life (TM) as much this time around and can actually contribute.
Always good for some Hot Shot love, and if needs be, Battle Beasts.

Yaaay People seem to be on board, I will draw up some guidelines. I think it's worth starting early as I don't want to be in a situation where I'm rushing about producing it again (plus I have no idea what my financial situation will be like down the line, at the moment I can afford fanzine production!)
