Some good fortune for once. Talking with the parentals over an Easter lunch yesterday, I learned my sister's disorganisation regarding her wedding means the date has shifted forward five days, so I'll now be travelling home from the north over the TFNation weekend with that all done. Result! Few quick calculations and I now find I can head home on the Friday and stop in Birmingham for the weekend on the way.

I've just booked a hotel, sadly not the Metropole as it's full currently (last year I got a room about a fortnight before the con, but I'm guessing that was due to late cancellations), but a good deal in a place just behind Resorts World, so close enough to walk.

Chuffed! TFNation is on again for Pinwig!

Is anyone looking for a room for the Friday and Saturday night?

I finally organised all of my travel last week. I had already managed to book a cheap train ticket from Birmingham New Street to Kilmarnock for only £17, but that means my train leaves at 7:15am. I couldn't get a room for the Sunday night, and due to poor finances plus the lack of room availability, I plan to hang about the bar until about 6am before leaving.

For the same reason I will be Megabusing it there throughout Thursday night into Friday morning, once again arriving in Birmingham about 4:30-5am. Only £1.50 for the journey, so I can't complain. I don't mind getting the megabus to Birmingham, as it is the return journey that is a nightmare. it took me 11 and a half hours to get home last year from leaving the Hilton, until I got through my front door.

Due to stupid anxiety and my mindset, I keep flipping and flopping about whether or not I am going to go. I know I will be there and have a great time, but my stupid mindset at the moment isn't helping.

I think I have it easy - just jump in car & drive 2hrs. But I do need to get there before 1500 before all those old women going for quilts turn up & take over the whole car park. Why don't they all travel on train seeing they are carrying much unlike us who have lots of plastic toys to take home

Quilts can be heavy and take up a lot of room so I am sure the quilt convention folk have loads to take home too!

The Thursday before TFN there will be one-night-only screenings of Shin Godzilla in select cinemas. I am looking at putting together a group trip out to see it, if anyone is interested.

It looks very very impressive! Well done!

My only word of caution is that it looks very official, from the writers involved to the presentation, and the advertising makes it sound like it's official, and all the chatter I've heard has people assuming it is. I think you'll want to quickly clarify that it's i) An unofficial fan project and ii) Non-profit (I assume). We don't want Hasbro or IDW coming down like a ton of bricks on fan stuff!

A point has been made to avoid doing anything on fri that would upset weekend-only goers. Side room stuff that is mostly community based input starting at twelve, but main hall stuff is still not til sixish.

I'd usually be there Thursday anyway so decided to add the extra two nights so I can relax a bit first. I hate not having time to use the pool.

If it works out I may also go over to Cardiff to see the Doctor Who Experience as its the closest I'll be before it closes.
